Innocent Days (Japanese Drama, New)

Based on a Japanese novel of the same name, Innocent Days follows our hero, Shinichi (played by Satoshi Tsumabuki) as he digs into his childhood friend, Yukino’s (played by Yuko Takeuchi) past because he does not believe she is capable of killing her ex-boyfriend’s wife and twin babies. This one is only six episodes long so the pacing should be pretty fast.
Merry Me Now (Korean Drama, New)

KBS’ new family drama that took over the spot vacated by My Golden Life. I was super excited for this one to air since it has Lee Sang Woo in it! For those who watches K-family dramas, there should be tons of familiar faces in this one, including our heroine, Han Ji Hye (The Legendary Witch, Beyond the Clouds).

The first two episodes of Merry Me Now were a whirlwind of character introductions…which is to be expected to some extent for a family drama, but it was kinda weird to not see our hero until the last five minutes of the first episode. Most K-family dramas will usually try to hook the audience with the two leads’ story first then slowly introduce the secondary characters later on, but Merry Me Now had taken an interesting approach of doing the opposite where we meet all the secondary characters right off the bat. Anyhow, despite the confusion of meeting so many characters in two short episodes, I am still very excited for this one and am planning on writing a first impression on this one…as soon as I figure out our two leads’ storyline.
Let’s Hold Hands Tightly And Watch The Sunset (Korean Drama, New)

Synopsis: Happily married, our heroine’s seemingly blissful life comes to a screeching halt when she finds out that she has the same brain cancer that killed her mother. Faced with the diagnosis that she might only have three more months to live (without getting treatment), our heroine decides to ask for a divorce from her husband so she could experience “love” again before she dies.

Ok, the synopsis sounds really iffy but the actual plot is obviously not so black and white. Judging from the first episode, the heroine’s eventual request for a divorce from her husband (played by Yoon Sang Hyun) might be an attempt to let him move on with his first love who had just reappeared with the full intention of taking our heroine’s husband from her. Kim Tae Hoon plays the ill tempered doctor who wants to convince our heroine to not give up on treatment. It looks like we will have a pretty messy romance going on between our heroine and her doctor then the husband with his first love. By the way, the chemistry between actress Han Hye Jin (heroine) and Kim Tae Hoon (her doctor) is great right off the bat. I have a random guess (based on a few promo posters) that the heroine will probably end up sticking with her husband…but, dang, I kinda hope the scriptwriters change their mind because the chemistry between the heroine and her doctor is too good to waste.

This one has a solid cast and the story itself actually looks good too…BUT, you know me, with any show that screams a sad ending I am going to be staying far away from this one until someone tells me that it’s safe to watch it.
My Minster (Korean Drama, New)

Wow, I was completely off on my guess of what this show is about. I had gone into the first episode of My Minister thinking it was going to be a sad but eventually happy story about how a struggling middle-aged man ended up helping an also struggling young woman. My other expectation was of course that our two leads will fall in love in the process of healing one another and the rest is history. Boy, was I shocked when it turns out our heroine was not your usual brand of the damsel in distress. In fact, after watching the first episode, I am more prone to tell our hero to run the other way.

Anyhow, I am purposefully not revealing more about the plot because I think this is one instance that it would be better to keep the story as a surprise. Oh, one more thing. Don’t go into this one expecting comedy. The show has a very gritty tone to it so not a whole lot of room for funny scenes. Despite my sorely mistaken expectation of the show, the first episode pulled me right in with skillful storytelling and VERY intriguing characters.
Youth (Chinese Drama, New)

This one is a web drama from iQIYI.com about…you guessed it, youth, or rather the time of innocent first loves and friendship. Haven’t had time to check this one out yet…not sure if I will get around to it since my watch list is pretty packed right now.
