Will This Love is a Checkmate (Japanese Drama)

This one is the live action drama of manga “Kono Koi wa Tsumi na no ka!?” by Hyte Torisima. As one who sees any sort of human interaction as a time waster, our hero seems to be destined to remain a virgin forever…until one day he meets our heroine- a curvy chess player.

With the episodes being only about 25 minutes long, the first episode moved quite fast. The show doesn’t quite have the over the top humor one would expect from a manga live action but it does have a dry humor.
Chong Min Wei (Chinese Drama, New)

This one is a fantasy crime mystery, set in ancient China where mutant exists and to suppress them, the government has formed a special department charged with the duty to deal with all cases relating to mutants.

The first episode couldn’t really keep my attention so I am passing on this one.
Like A Flowing River (Chinese Drama, New)

Set in the time between 1978-1992 during the Chinese economic reform era, the story will follow our three male leads as they each take a different path to try to grab onto the great economic opportunities (and pitfalls…) they find themselves in.

If  Wang Kai (Ode to Joy, When a Snail Falls in Love) wasn’t playing the male lead I probably would’ve looked right past this one since it really didn’t sound like my sort of show…actually, it still doesn’t but I might check back on this one later once
My Strange Hero (Korean Drama, New)

Falsely accused by his friend of bullying, our hero was expelled from his high school when his own girlfriend testified against him. Eight years later, our hero is given a chance to go back to his school and exact his revenge on those who hurt him in the past. The high school girlfriend is actually our spunky heroine so that whole revenge thing will obviously hit some snag along the way for our hero.

I went into this one thinking it was going to be a teary melo since the synopsis had said it was a revenge drama but the first couple episodes were actually quite funny and heartwarming even. Yoo Seung Ho (Player, I’m Not a Robot) looks great in this one and his chemistry with his leading lady (played by Jo Bo Ah) is fun and sizzling at the same time.

Judging by the first four episodes, the show will have plenty of emotional depth but I am hoping the great wacky comedic vibe will also stick around for the long haul.
