It was bittersweet to see My Golden Life wrapped up. The rest of what I am about to say contains spoilers so proceed at your own risk….

I was super grumpy at first that the writer decided to kill off Daddy Seo but I was eventually…albeit still somewhat huffy…won over by the warm and hope-filled manner they tidy up that particular plotline.  Overall, I was fairly happy with My Golden Life. It was nice to finally get a heroine who genuinely had no interest in marrying into a chaebol family. I really liked how Ji An (our heroine) was able to say “I love you, but I love myself even more and marrying into your chaebol family would require losing my identity so no thanks.” What was even nicer was that our hero eventually understood the truth of our heroine’s words and agreed completely that he could not possibly do something so cruel to the woman he loves. Oh, one more thing that was refreshing! I loved how Park Si Hoo’s hero was able to make something of himself AFTER much tribulation of course, but unlike your usual K-family dramas, our hero didn’t magically lose all his high education training and keen skills the moment he left his chaebol family. All in all, while there were some minor complaints (ie. the lackluster storyline of heroine’s older brother with his wife.) but there is no doubt that I enjoyed My Golden Life immensely.
I finally took the time to check this one out! Maybe I am feeling too old lately, but I went into The Great Seducer expecting spoiled rotten rich jerks…which I guess most of our leads are…but what’s with this overwhelming maternal desire to just give all these kids (especially the jerks) a big hug?!

Zheng Shang’s new C-idol drama My Nursemaid Handbook (Chinese straight translation) has just started filming. Interestingly, the production is keeping a tight lid on who will be playing the hero opposite of Zheng Shang. My Nursemaid Handbook is set in the entertainment industry and a conspiracy within it (which will of course lead to a romance) involving an AI.

Sigh…I have fallen off the wagon on this one and has not been following it these last two weeks. I kept thinking about going back to it since I love the story of Huang Feng Prison (Untouchable Lovers) and its characters but the second half of the show is just not keeping my attention. To be honest, the story (the second half) is actually not bad…which is part of my problem with it. The second half the story had added some great secondary characters but their existence pretty much made the two leads and their storyline seem lackluster. My other complaint is that our hero’s prince costumes made him look like a scrawny kid. Actor Song Wei Long is on the skinny side so his layered look in the first half of the show gave him the necessary bulk but also created a great ethereal feel. However, in the second half of the show, Song Wei Long’s costume is not layered at all and that, unfortunately, made my inner fan cry “Give me back my Rong Zhi!” everytime he shows up on the screen. I will just add one more complaint while I am at it… Rong Zhi is supposed to be this scary smart character so it was disappointing to see our hero dialed down to just pretty smart.
