Sword Snow Stride (Chinese Drama, Viki & Youtube)

Thanks to his birth as the son of the famous/infamous general who conquered six nations with one fearsome iron cavalry army, our hero is used to being the target of assassinations. Under the disguise as the world’s worst dandy, our hero hides a keen mind and a great ambition to walk the path his father laid out for him on his own terms.

I have a great feeling about this one! I love the first two episodes. As always, actor Zhang Ruo Yun is awesome in these kinda of roles. By the way, since Sword Snow Stride and Joy of Life have the same scriptwriter (adapting from novels), the two dramas do have kinda a similar vibe but they are obviously two very different stories.

If the Voice has Memory (Chinese Drama, Youtube)

As an aspiring voice actress, our heroine is overjoyed when she discovered that her new boss is none other than her idol- a mysterious legend in the dubbing industry. Bugging our hero until he eventually agrees to become her mentor, our heroine sets out on the path of realizing her dream and helping our hero to overcome his own demons.

Hmm…not bad, but not too memorable either. Worthy checking out if you need something easy to watch on a sleepless night.

Win the Future (Chinese Drama, Youtube & Viki)

Chen Kun’s new work romance where he plays a top sales director going head to head with our equally capable and ruthless heroine who shares the same fame as him in the sales field. By the way, not sure where Viki got the show’s synopsis but it’s pretty far from the actual story. For example, the heroine was not the hero’s ex. They have heard of each other but had never met until our hero was transferred to Beijing. Also, the hero wasn’t happy at all to get transferred to Beijing since he knew he was about to walk into a quagmire.

These types of shows usually move at a fairly fast pace but not this particular one. Instead of feeling bored though, I was fairly intrigued by the show’s obvious confidence in telling the story on its own term and the stylish manner it deals with business intrigues. I am about seven episodes in and I am enjoying this one thus far. I am especially loving the great sizzling chemistry between our two leads. What can I say, it’s always nice to get a dose of mature sizzling chemistry after binging on innocent young college romances.

Lucky with You (Chinese Drama, Viki)

Once a professional sparring athlete, our heroine now works as a bodyguard for hire. Saving our hero’s father by chance, our heroine ends up becoming our hero’s personal bodyguard- despite our hero’s protests that the last thing he needs is someone following him around 24/7 to spy on him for his dad. Notwithstanding our hero’s displeasure at first, our two leads eventually formed an unlikely friendship that will evolve into romance as they slowly get to know each other.

Another side note on Viki’s synopsis: our heroine was not married. She did have a cheating boyfriend that she had dated for three years but they never got married and neither did they have children together.

I was fairly excited for this one since I tend to like heroines that can fight but boy, this one really felt draggy. The storyline was bogged down with annoying corporate intrigue and seemingly pointless side stories. It really is such a shame because I actually liked the pacing of our two leads’ romance. I liked how the show gave sufficient time for our two leads who had very different backgrounds and values to become friends first before there were any signs of a budding romance. I will most likely finish this one…with a finger on the fast-forward button to skip over all the draggy parts.
