Shufu Katsu! (Japanese Drama)

Stunned when her husband suddenly quits his corporate job to pursue his dream of becoming a farmer, our heroine, a full-time housewife for most of her life must now face the challenge of finding a job. Dismayed at first to realize that her past work experience from eons ago is no longer seen as valid in today’s world, our heroine draws on her tenacity and experience as a housewife to excel at her new job- reviving a struggling supermarket.

This one is unexpectedly amusing even though the premise is really not the most exciting sort.
First Love (Taiwanese Drama, Daily)

With a steady career as a marketing manager and an even steadier marriage with a supportive wife who has given him two children, our hero’s very steady life is suddenly thrown into turbulence when his first love unexpectedly shows up in his life.

I had wondered how in the world the scriptwriter is going to whitewash our hero if he ends up getting all tangled up with his first love when he obviously has a loving and supportive wife. The answer? According to the synopsis, it looks like our hero will have dementia which I guess will probably throw our hero’s state of memory back to his younger days. Too sad of a premise for me…so staying away from this one.
Tang Dynasty Tour (Chinese Drama, New)

An archaeologist, our hero gets caught during a sandstorm while on an expedition and ends up getting transported back in time to the Tang Dynasty. Thanks to his wealth of knowledge from the modern time, our hero manages to create a rather nice life for himself in Tang Dynasty…and walking right into a big web of palace conspiracy.

I only had time to check out the first episode. While it was a fairly predictable time travel set up but the show’s quality was surprisingly solid with a fun comedy vibe to it.
Be Careful Delicacy (Chinese ijq.tv Web Drama, New)

A romantic comedy about a woman who travels to a rural B&B for its promised healing of her heart, only to end up getting tricked into becoming the B&B’s cook when the owner (our hero) unexpectedly loses his chef. Convinced by our hero that cooking for others (his next set of customers) is the second step to healing, our trusting heroine strangely begins to feel better…that is until she discovers our hero’s lies. Fuming, our heroine packs her bags to leave only to turn right around and requests our hero to pretend to be her boyfriend when her nemesis shows up at the B&B and she has to put up an elaborate act to cover her previous lies. Sensing a perfect chance, our hero signs a contract with our heroine in which he agrees to be her fake boyfriend and in return, she will continue to be the B&B’s chef.

I haven’t had time to check this one out yet…but judging by the promo trailer I am hoping there will be plenty of food porn so I am planning on checking in later.
When Time Stopped (Korean Drama, New)

Kim Hyung Joong’s new romantic fantasy where he plays a man who can stop time. Quite spoiled by his ability to do anything he wants (mainly stealing treatures), our hero is completely stunned when he meets the one woman (our heroine and his new landlord) who is not influenced by his ability. Our second male lead is a quiet sullen man who works as the God’s servant to kill off the human beings who have mistakenly inherited god’s ability.

This show is getting terrible numbers in Korea but the viewership number is really misleading since this one is actually being aired on KBS World, a pay channel of KBS Station aimed at the international audience instead of viewers at home. I personally thought the first two episodes were fairly decent but the pacing felt slow for some strange reason. I really like the male second lead’s story and the whole dynamic that there are a group of people whose job is to fix God’s “mistakes”. My personal working theory is that these people are more like the Grim Reapers in Guardian: The Lonely and Great God since our male second lead’s co-workers seem to have no recollection of their own past. My only problem? I like both of our male leads’ storyline but I kinda wish they were two shows instead of one. Anyhow, the show’s cinematography is super pretty and the story seems solid thus far so I still think this one is worth checking out.
