Single Ladies Senior (Taiwanese Drama, New)

Summer Meng’s (Love, Timeless) new T-romance that follows four friends as they each try to find their own answers on the question: Is it safer to stay in the high tower of career success by themselves or should they risk everything for the possibility of a happy ending with a prince charming?

The story begins with the four friends in college but after a boy (ain’t it always…) fractures the friendship between our two female leads, the story will pick back up after the four girls are experienced professionals and that boy shows up in their lives again.

T-drama is on a roll this year. It’s too early to tell on this one, but episode one was fast paced which makes the somewhat predictable set up fairly painless.
Something In The Rain (Korean Drama, New)

This one looks super cute!!! I am going to write a first impression on this noona romance next week so stay tuned!
The Miracle We Met (Korean Drama, New)

Kim Myung Min’s new supernatural drama where our hero’s soul is mistakenly taken by Death and he wakes up to find himself in another man’s body. Missing his family terribly who think is just some crazy stranger, our hero also has to figure out how to deal with the family he inherited along with the body he took over.

Hmm…tons of good drama out this week, so this one didn’t quite stand out. However, I liked the cast which is why I am planning to check back later.
Excellent Investor (Chinese Drama, New)

With an eye firmly focused on becoming the top dog in the field of capital investment, Fang Yu Bin is determined to stay true to his moral compass even if employing shady method would certainly propel him to success at a young age. Quite intrigued by Yu Bin’s talent and his seemingly youthful insistence on integrity, our heroine, the daughter of a rich family and a very successful investor herself, starts to take notice of our young hero.

This one is a noona romance as well, since our heroine’s character is older and much more successful than our hero. Despite their age difference (in real life, the two lead actors has ten years in difference), I am happy to report that our two leads look great together and their chemistry is sizzling! I really like the fact that while our hero does come off young, his firey confidence makes his sizzling chemistry with our heroine very believable. I love our two leads’ interaction thus far (the show is four episodes in) and I am hoping the show will keep the two leads’ romance steady but on the slowish side. (When it comes to C-dramas, I will take slow but sure romantic development over fast then super draggy.)
Tree In The River (Chinese Drama, New)

Mike He’s new C-drama where he plays our hero who after a whirlwind romance (really, it only took 2 episodes) was able to marry his childhood crush…BUT the happy ending he envisioned hit a major roadblock when it becomes obvious that fairy tale happiness doesn’t protect one from the harsh realities of learning to live with someone else. Tree In The River tries pretty hard to compare each of its character and their individual approach to love with animals types…but frankly, I think the story chug along just fine without it and the random animal reference is more distracting than helpful.

Sonia Sui plays the heroine’s jaded boss who is less than pleased when an ex-boyfriend waltzes back into her life believing they could just let bygones be bygones and start anew as co-workers.
Great Expectations (C-Drama, New)

The Chinese synopsis put this show right around the early 20th century Shanghai… but judging by the first couple episodes, I really think the story is most likely set around late 1940s or early 1950s. Don’t hold me to it though, I am really bad with my history facts. Anyhow, Great Expectations is a story all about choices made by its characters during this tumultuous time as they each have to figure out how they will answer the myriads of challenges and moral questions that will forever change their destiny. The synopsis sounds serious but the show actually has a comedic tone to it despite the fact that it deals with a lot of violence, conspiracy, and later on, politics. I think it helps that our protagonist is sort of an antihero who is not always the most reliable when it comes to moral judgments and is used to relying on his gilded tongue to get him out of sticky situations.

I usually stay away from shows set in this time period (because they almost end with one or both of the leads’ death) but for those of you who don’t mind the epicness, then I think this show looks quite solid especially because it did an excellent job in showcasing the glamour that coexisted with the dark realities of the time.
