An Incurable Case of Love (Japanese Drama)
Thanks to a fateful meeting with a handsome and caring doctor five years ago, our heroine became a nurse so she could realize her cherished dream of helping our hero as he saves lives. Bursting with excitement on her first day as a newbie nurse, our heroine is ready to work right alongside the gentle and caring doctor she remembered so well from five years ago… that is until reality hits and she finds out firsthand that our hero is nothing at all like what she imagined.
This one kinda reminds me of the second season of the J-romantic classic “Itazura na Kiss” with the same sort of bumbling heroine where you would just be grateful she doesn’t kill some poor patient. Bumbling heroine…especially one where you have to constantly wonder how she hasn’t killed off herself AND the patients are not really my thing but this one is a live-action adaptation of a J-comic which means there should be plenty of romance so I will probably still give this one a couple of episodes.
The Great Lord (Chinese Drama)
Based on a book by the popular author who also gave us “Fights Break Sphere” and “Martial Universe”, this one follows the same proven formula of a young underdog hero who will gather great faithful friends to fight off evil forces and blaze a glorious path to become the greatest legend.
The story seemed decent enough but it would probably be very helpful if you were at least a bit familiar with the novel. I checked out the first two episodes…and can’t shake the feeling I am watching a kids show. The actor playing the hero is 20 years old in real life but he just looks so young to me for some reason! Seeing that it is pretty important for me to be able to swoon over heroes without feeling like I am committing a crime…I am skipping over this one.
The Cursed (Korean Drama)
As a reporter determined to dig for the truth no matter how difficult it is, our heroine refuses to give up her investigation on the Chairman of Korean’s biggest IT company- Forest even if there seem to be obstacles everywhere she turns. Believing she has wasted her time when a teenage informant asserts that the Forest’s Chairman is possessed by an evil spirit and she herself (the teenager) has the power to curse people as long as she has their picture, name and a personal item of the person, our heroine’s initial disbelief turns into stunned horror when what happens next makes her wonder if her young informant might be telling the truth after all.
Veteran actor Sung Dong Il plays the chairman and boy, is he creepy and scary here. It is always impressive to see seasoned actors/actresses who can go from comedic roles to scary ones seemingly so effortlessly. I loved Sung Dong Il’s role as the hilarious father in Reply 1997 so it was a bit of a shock to see him playing such a scary villain here.
Forest (Korean Darma)
A successful CEO of an investment company, our hero disguises himself as a fire rescue worker in order to join a team stationed at a forest to find out about a top-secret investment project concerning that particular land. Our heroine is a surgeon who had quite a few unpleasant run-ins with our hero before an incident at her job caused her to get transferred to the middle of nowhere– the only medical center that is close to the frost where our hero is at.
Going by the trailer I had expected this one to have a fantasy element, however, after checking out the first two episodes I think the story is more about psychological trauma than supernatural occurrences. I thought the first two episodes were decent with promising chemistry from our two leads, although the backstory did take a bit of patience to get through.
Viki.com has this one.
The Wonder Woman (Taiwanese Drama)
The straight translation of the drama’s Chinese name is “To Kiss A Shark”, the shark represents our heroine, a marketing director of a popular internet platform who believes that she has to fight for anything and everything in life. The CEO of a competing internet platform, our hero believes he can easily tame the shark in order to recruit her to his company…of course, what he doesn’t count on is losing his heart in the process.
I liked this one. The plot is obviously fairly predictable but there is enough vulnerability built into both lead characters to make them endearing and real. Since I wasn’t familiar with the actor playing the male lead I was a bit nervous at first but thankfully, the chemistry between the two leads is quite good.
Miss Truth (Chinese Drama)
Despite being the daughter of a noble family, our heroine has been learning the trade of a coroner since she was young out of a deep desire to find out the truth of her mother’s suicide. Forced to run away from home to avoid an arranged marriage her stepmother has set up for her, our heroine ends up running into our hero- a brilliant judicial official who quickly realizes that her talent and skills as a medical examiner would be very helpful to him.
I went into this one with pretty low expectations but I was pleasantly surprised by the sizzling chemistry between our two leads. It helps too that the criminal cases are pretty interesting as well.

i’ve have been wanting to watch this since am a fan of takeru sama but don’t have the time to… and boy ” itazura na kiss” brings back sweet memories.
I dropped TGL like a hot potato because the ML actor looks like 14 for me. I know Chinese directors seem to love get even more younger actors every year but that is where it stops for me. I surely would have tried watching him in a Youth Drama since he is promising but in a historical Drama they must look at least 20 even for me though historical no one would have minded the MC being 14.
I am glad I am not the only one who feels like that!
I’ve been following Forest and have been pleasantly surprised by how often I keep coming back to it- I tend to juggle shows so I don’t get burned out by binge watching and sometimes shows will fall off my radar because I forget to go back to them even though I liked them. I haven’t forgotten this one. I like both leads although I’m unfamiliar with the female lead. I started watching it because I have liked the male lead in several other shows (although watching him be a manipulative a** on Cheese in the trap wasn’t my favorite but he did hit very well!)
Am liking the supporting cast too
I was thinking about Wonder Woman- I’ve sort of gotten out of the Taiwanese habit – I binged quite a few of then for a while and then they started irritating me. I might give this one a try. Although from your review I’m actually more interested in Miss Truth if I can find it subbed!
Is there any word on whether Miss Truth might be subtitled in English? I’ve been intrigued enough by descriptions and by the first episode to wish for that very, very much. There’s something refreshing and intriguing going on there, and I’ve a hankering to get in on the fun.
