Sensi, Don’t You Know? (Japanese Drama)
Despite being a somewhat accomplished manga artist whose job is to create heart skipping love stories for her female readers, our heroine surprisingly has absolutely zero experience in love. Noticing her disheveled appearance after yet another long period of working day and night to meet an editorial deadline, our heroine timidly walks into a salon and gets a haircut from our handsome hero…which is how the journey of her own romance finally begins.
Based on a manga of the same name, this is a warm fuzzy romance for once so not your usual wacky J-drama sort. I really liked the fact that our heroine is a workaholic who is passionate about her work and that doesn’t change even when a handsome young man unexpectedly begins paying attention to her. Granted, our heroine is going to have to learn what it means to have a relationship with someone but at least I am glad the writer didn’t make her into a love-starved old maid who throws everything away when a handsome guy comes her way.
The Romance of Hua Rong (Chinese Drama)
As the only daughter of a general, our heroine has the intelligence but not quite the fighting ability to match her lofty dream of becoming a champion of justice. Captured and hauled off to an island ruled by our hero- a pirate leader when her sense of justice lands her is a sticky situation, our heroine begins a battle of wits with our hero.
This one looks quite fun! The heroine comes off kinda bumbling at first which made me nervous (I usually don’t like this sort of character) but luckily the heroine is actually pretty charming once the story gets going. Moreover, the chemistry between the two leads is very good.
To Get Her (Chinese Drama)
In order to rescue her ex-boyfriend who has somehow gotten trapped in a newly developed computer game, our heroine bravely enters into the same game. Completely forgetting his identity in the real life as a popular idol singer, our hero believes himself to be a crown prince who strangely has no desire for the throne but instead is more interested in impressing crowds with his musical talents. Taking on the role as our hero’s new but estranged wife in the game, our heroine must figure out a way to accomplish the game mission- for our reluctant hero to defeat all his political foes and take the throne.
This one is obviously a comedy so the show doesn’t take itself seriously at all. My watch list is way too full right now but if you are in the mood for some funky light historical fantasy then this one might be worth checking out.
Selection: The War Between Women (Korean Drama)
Determined to find the one who is responsible for her twin sister’s death, our heroine bravely enters into the palace selection process to become the young Emperor’s next Empress. Overwhelmed with grief after losing his new wife- the woman he had thought to be his childhood first love, our hero is about to have the shock of his life when a woman who looks exactly like his dead wife shows up in the palace.
This one’s pacing is quite fast and I was impressed with how much character depth the show has been able to give to our two leads in just two episodes already. Given the show’s title, palace intrigue will obviously be a big part of the story and I will admit that I am a bit worried about that since I don’t usually do too well with those sort of shows. However, I am quite curious how our two leads’ romance will go (with our hero not knowing our heroine is his real childhood first love AND our heroine thinking our hero might be the source of her family’s tragedy) so I will probably keep an eye on this one for now.
This one is on Viki, under the title “Queen Love and War”

Do you know if they are on Viki or Netflix?
None are on Viki. ToGetHer you can watch on Tencent’s YT channel with English subs. Hua Rong on MangoTV’s channel even with English subs.
Don’t know about Netflix since different countries have different series and Nextflix isn’t telling you much about their programm before you subscribe. My country has only Dramas you can watch on VIKI (who I subscribed for less money than Netflix…I don’t watch modern Western series) or on official TY channels for free. Or Dramas no one wants to watch for a reason >.<.
I was curious about your thoughts on My Country. I have it now on Netflix (USA) and I watched the first episode. I really got drawn into the story but considering how it started I’m super hesitant about finishing it because I have this awful feeling it’s going to rip my heart out and stomp on it. (I’ve been burned by a couple tragic endings in k/c dramas that I’m not anxious to repeat) have you watched any of this?
I hardly watch K-Drama these days and this type of story never was my cup of tea. Kfangurl made a review but there are spoilers for sure.
