Once Upon A Time In Lingjian Mountain (Chinese Drama)

Too brilliant to find anything to keep his interest, our 18 year old hero decides to embark on the seemingly impossible challenge of passing the Spirit Sword Sect’s entrance exam. Despite being told that he has little chance of becoming an immortal, our hero nonetheless is determined to succeed…that is if his rather unconventional master could keep her word of helping him achieve the impossible. Our heroine is a few hundred years old already but one would not be able to tell by her appearance nor by her ability to cause trouble. (I know the heroine’s character doesn’t sound endearing but trust me, her character is awesome and totally charming!)

 

This one is hilarious wacky and fun! The first episode could be a bit confusing but the story is actually rather straightforward in that it is all about how our two brilliant leads help each other to be even more brilliant and eventually become the greatest fighters while engaging in endless hilarious spats.

Chinese actor Xu Kai (The Legends) has put out a lot of shows in the last bit but I was still pleasantly surprised to see him do so well in a fun comedic role.

The Life of the White Fox (Chinese Drama)

Accidentally falling into a cave while out hiking, our heroine picks up a white pearl and rescues what she had thought was a dog. Turns out, the dog is actually a fox demon and the pearl she had picked up was his. Our clueless heroine is horrified when our hero (the fox demon) shows up to take back what’s his especially when she is informed that since the pearl had attached itself to her now, taking the pearl from her will kill her at the same time. Always a quick thinker, our heroine convinces our hero to let her live for a few more days in exchange of feeding him all the lovely food he has yet to experience in this modern day. Unbeknownst to our two leads, the pearl’s appearance has caught all the attention of the demons in the city and our hero will soon be forced to protect our heroine against those who are coming after the pearl.

Kinda fun and amusing but not enough to make it on my watch list.

Want A Taste (Korean Daily Drama)

After supporting her husband who is six years younger than her through college by running a restaurant, our heroine finds out that her husband is cheating on her with a younger woman from a rich family. Refusing to get a divorce, our heroine comes to meet her neighbor, a has-been drama screenwriter whose own marriage is not going well either.

I know the synopsis sounds depressing but it looks like the drama actually has a heavy dose of comedic tone to it. Unfortunately, judging by the first episode, the story starts way back when our heroine has yet to marry her husband so I am assuming it will be a while before we even meet our hero (the neighbor). Guess I will be putting this one on the back burner for a bit…which in K-daily that’s about a week and a half.

Someday or One Day (Taiwanese Drama, New)

It has been two years since our heroine’s boyfriend died but she can’t stop herself from constantly thinking he will jump out one day and tell her that this was all a bad joke. Using her company’s newest app that is based on the theory that everyone has an identical look-alike somewhere in the world, our heroine hoped the app will allow her to see someone who looks exactly like her boyfriend. Much to our heroine’s surprise, instead of finding her boyfriend look alike, she instead sees the picture of a much younger girl who looks just like her.

Waking up after a car accident, our heroine is overjoyed to see her boyfriend by her hospital bed….until she realizes she has somehow been sent back to 1998 and into the body of the high school girl who looked just like her. To make things even more bizarre, in her doppelganger’s life, there is also a young man who looks just like her dead boyfriend…except he is trying to match her doppelganger up with his best friend.

As you would expect, the first episode was pretty sad since we spent most of the time watching our heroine putting on a brave face in front of everyone but overwhelmed by grief in private. However, as you can tell from the synopsis, there are quite a lot of mysteries in this one and the time travel is just a small piece of the whole puzzle.
