Listening Snow Tower (Chinese Drama, New)

Vowing to seek revenge against a ruthless evil sect that had killed her father right in front of her when she was young, our heroine’s memory of that fateful night is softened by the equally vibrant memory of a young man who had stubbornly comforted her in the rain despite his own life-threatening illness.  Belatedly discovering her own cursed fate as one who will bring death on those close to her, our heroine resolutely leaves behind all that is familiar to her and joins the famous Listening Snow Tower to fight against the evil sect…the same Listening Snow Tower that is under the leadership of that same young man who comforted her years ago.

The very first thing that struck me right off the bat about this show is how pretty it is. The cast is pretty, the fighting is pretty and the cinematography is pretty. (For those who watched Ever Night, the lead actress here is the same one who played Mo Shan Shan) All the pretty aside, the thing that impressed me the most is the great chemistry between the two leads. The chemistry is not exactly the sizzling sort (the hero’s character is more of the ethereal sort) BUT every time the two leads show up on the screen together it somehow just makes me want to sigh like a love-struck fool. I only had time to check out the first couple episodes but the story looks to be pretty solid for now.

The Secret Life of My Secretary (Korean Drama, New)

After slaving away as our hero’s secretary for a year, our heroine had hoped that her 24 hours on the call sort of work ethic might have earned her a chance of keeping her job despite her boss’ reputation of only keeping his secretary for no longer than a year. Her hope shattered when she proved to be just another secretary to be fired at our hero’s will, our heroine is not exactly in a forgiving mood when her ex-boss abruptly declares that he wants her to be his secretary again. Harboring a secret pain from his past, our hero truly had not planned on keeping our heroine as his secretary no matter how satisfied he is of her as an employee…until an assassination attack left him with the inability to recognize anyone’s faces other than our heroine’s.

At first glance this one seems extremely similar to What’s Wrong With Secretary Kim but fortunately, it is quite clear within the first couple episodes that The Secret Life of My Secretary is very different both in story and character set up. I liked that our hero is not your usual haughty rich jerk who needs to be taught a lesson but is someone who actually has a very tender side under his prickly personality…wait…I guess that is similar to every other K-drama hero… Anyway, stereotypes or not, The Secret Life Of My Secretary is quite fun and our hero’s inability to recognize faces allows some interesting twists into the story.

The Coordinators (Taiwanese Drama, New)

After delivering many babies as a nurse, our heroine embarks on a completely different career path as an organ donor coordinator. Our heroine soon finds out first hand the many unexpected emotional and physical challenges of her new job, but with a passionate attitude for the sanctity of life, our heroine will prove to be an invaluable asset to her team.  In case that synopsis sounds too “educational”, our heroine will have a love line with a surgeon on her team. I really liked the fact that our hero is not your usual cold and aloof brilliant surgeon type of character but is actually a fun and charmingly eccentric character.

Her Private Life (Korean Drama)

I am REALLY enjoying this one! The story really doesn’t have too much depth to it but who cares when it is cute and sizzling enough to make me squeal like a fool the whole time I am watching it. By the way, I can’t remember the last time I have watched that many sizzling scenes between two leads before they even became a couple.

Absolute Boyfriend (Korean Drama, New)

The Japanese manga Zettai Kareshi by Yuu Watase already has two live-action adaptations (Taiwanese and Japanese) so it is K-drama’s turn to take this story for a spin. I will be completely honest that I hadn’t been able to stay interested in the previous versions but this one does have Yeo Jin-Goo playing our hero so my attention span might be longer this time around.

For those who are not familiar with the story, Absolute Boyfriend is a sci-fi romance between our love jaded heroine and a robot who is created to be a woman’s perfect boyfriend. It is interesting to note that the K-version has not chosen to stick with the heroine’s back story as one who is seemingly always unlucky in love (which makes her inexperience in love as well) but has changed her to be a woman who has just broken up with her boyfriend of seven years. (The second male lead in this story has always been the best friend/brother type who had silently watched over our heroine, but in the K-version it looks like the ex-boyfriend will be the second male lead.)
