I liked the Ninja Chatter’s format so I am keeping that. However, I realized I had grown rather attached to Ninja’s Friday Drama Roundup as a name so I decided to just take off the “Friday” and keep the rest of the name. Hopefully that’s not too confusing for you all.

Doctor Prisoner (Korean Drama, New)

Namgung Min’s new medical thriller where he plays a brilliant doctor who starts working as the chief of a prison medical clinic in order to seek revenge against his foes.

This one looks really good. The hero is sort of an anti-hero (despite his true nature as a warm and caring doctor) who had to learn to play dirty like the rich and powerful so he can beat the villains at their own game. Episode one was fast-paced and thus far the story and all the characters look to be quite intriguing. Judging by the promo posters, our hero will have quite a battle of wits with Kim Byung Chul’s (Goblin, Sky Castle) character, a medical director who also works at the prison. Kim Byung Chul’s acting was really memorable as a villain in Goblin so I think it will be awesome to see him playing another complex character here.

Takane & Hana (Japanese Drama, New)

Forced to go on an arranged marriage meeting in her older sister’s place, our high schooler heroine, Hana, meets our haughty and rude hero- Takane. Complete opposites in every way from the super-rich Takane, our heroine assumes she will never see our hero again after their marriage meet ends in disaster…until she walks out of her school to find him waiting with a bouquet of flower.

I really didn’t think much of this one when I started watching the first episode but the show really grew on me as the hour went on. As you can guess from the synopsis, the story is not a complicated one and there are plenty of stereotypes but the show is nonetheless still charming. Since I just finished following A Story to Read When You Fall in Love, I figure I would give this one a try for the next few weeks.

Well, the ban left as quickly as it came! A few days ago this announcement was made:

The notice reads: Due to the strong responses to the limitations placed on historical dramas, the three broadcasting stations met with the government this afternoon. Historical dramas will be allowed to begin airing in April with the following conditions: 1. On the 15th of every month, each of the broadcasting stations will need to hand in their next month’s broadcasting schedule. 2. Control the amount of historical dramas. Dramas set in the modern time will need to be at least 60% of the broadcasting stations’ shows. 3. Broadcasting will not begin to promote or advertise a new show unless it has already received the appropriate licences and the go ahead from the government to air the show.

While I didn’t expect the ban to stick around for a long time but this was certainly shorter than I expected. I guess all the government leaders probably heard an ear full from their own family and friends concerning the ban. Historical drama and stories in various forms REALLY has been the core of Chinese entertainment so they really should’ve expected the strong backlash from TV stations and…well, everyone else. But then again, the government was probably just using this to remind the TV station who the boss is from the very beginning.

Youth Fight (Chinese Drama, New)

Zheng Shuang plays an energetic and outgoing college girl ready to take on the world. Along with four other friends (living in the same dorm), our heroine will go through both happy and challenging times until they realize that one has to fight for one’s dream.

This one is really not my sort of show especially since it looks like our heroine and her friends will each have to go through 2-3 boyfriends before they find their Mr. Right…that means there are at least 10 dead end relationships spread through out the story…I am too impatient for that.

Mother of Mine (Korean Drama, New)

A family drama surrounding three daughters who are the light of their mother’s world. The first daughter works as a bank teller but has to constantly juggle the demand of her work and her many home responsibilities as a married woman with a child. Kim So Yeon plays the second daughter who is a much feared boss at work but promptly turns into a softie the moment she sees her mother. The youngest daughter lives at home with her mom and is jobless despite the fact that her first published book years ago had won awards but since then has nothing else to show for herself.

This one looks pretty promising! I always liked Kim So Yeon as an actress so I was especially glad to see her romance line (with a brand new employee who has just joined her department) here looks like it will be super cute.

Kill It (Korean Drama, New)

Raised by an assassin, our hero grows up to be an elite assassin as well. Hired by a mysterious client with the condition that our hero will be given a picture with hints to his real family for each job he finishes, our hero begins a journey back to his family with a dead body in each step he takes. Our heroine is the detective who will be chasing after our hero to solve the mystery relating to her boyfriend’s death years ago.

Episode one was quite good even if the pacing felt a tad bit slow at times but since this show is only 12 episodes long I am assuming the story will actually progress quickly.
