Take My Brother Away (Chinese Drama)
Based on a Chinese webcomic of the same name, Take My Brother Away follows the hilarious yet heartwarming story of our heroine’s school life with her older brother who seems to have a great talent in causing trouble and making her life difficult. With dreams of becoming a girly girl, our heroine is immensely frustrated that her brother is perpetually making her so angry that she has no choice but to beat him up. Yap, our heroine is extremely good at fighting…thanks to her father who mistakenly signed her up for martial art classes (because of her brother again) instead of the ballet classes she asked for.

This one has a great wacky fun comic vibe. It is especially hilarious to see our heroine who wants so desperately to be a dainty little girl but always end up using her fist whenever her brother does yet another frustrating thing. I love the sibling bickering especially since it is obvious that our heroine’s brother actually does care a great deal about his little sister and wants to be a good brother…it just doesn’t usually pan out. I haven’t read the comic so not sure if there will be a substantial romantic plot or not but I think this show might just be fun enough even without any.
Secret and Lies (Korean Drama)
The new MBC K-daily. According to the synopsis, the story will follow the lives of two women: One who refuses to give up on her dreams even after everyone around her turned against her and another woman who used lies to build her own career. I haven’t had a chance to check this one out yet and frankly, I am a bit hesitant after finding out the director is the same one that directed Princess Aurora back in 2013. For those who have not watched the K-daily Princess Aurora…you are very lucky. That particular K-daily actually brought in decent numbers for MBC back in 2013 but I imagine it was only because the story became so bad that the audience tuned in every day just to see which character the scriptwriter was going to kill that day. The show started out as a romantic comedy but it ended with the writer killing half the cast for seemingly no good reason at all so of course the plot also stopped making any sense. I think most of us who actually watched the show just stuck around out of the morbid curiosity of how much worse the story could get…and let’s just say the scriptwriter did not disappoint at all. Anyhow, I am assuming the director kinda had to follow the script he was given so I probably shouldn’t hold a terrible K-daily against the poor guy…
Headhunter (Japanese Drama)
Yosuke Eguchi plays our hero who owns a recruitment agency. As a skilled headhunter, our hero is not shy in pulling out all stops to achieve his objective…even if he often takes unnecessary detours for his own secret purpose.

This one’s pacing is on the slower end but strangely watchable anyway. It is probably safe to guess that the show’s set up will be episodic as our hero “helps” each of his clients.
Caught In The Heartbeat (Chinese Drama, New)

I went into this one with pretty low expectation but find myself totally sucked in right from the first five minutes. That’s pretty impressive especially since I really haven’t been in the mood to watch police dramas lately. I will be posting the first impression on this one next week. By the way, you could find Caught In The Heartbeat on Youtube but I don’t believe any sites have picked it up for translation yet.
Twenties Once Again (Chinese Drama, New)

After having a fight with her husband, our heroine, a 70 year old grandma unexpectedly finds herself transformed back into her twenties (in appearance) after she swallowed half of a bottle of sleeping pill in anger. Greatly alarmed to not only find his wife of many years suddenly transformed into her younger self but that some good looking guy is pursuing her as well, our hero decides to swallow the rest of the sleeping pill so he could get back his own twenty year old body and get his wife back.

I haven’t had a chance to check this one out yet but the premise sounds amusing.
Your House Helper (Korean Drama, New)

Ha Seok Jin’s (Something About 1%) new K-romance where he plays a super housekeeper who takes his job very seriously. Years of experience has allowed our hero to spot his client’s troubles hiding behind their chaotic surroundings and offer some much needed advice but it is obvious that our hero is also running away from problems of his own that no amount of cleaning would solve.  Taking notice of a neighboring young woman who seems to be struggling with the overwhelming burden of simply surviving life, our hero decides to offer up his help. (The neighboring young woman will end up renting her house to two other women. Looks like our hero will end up working his magic on them as well.)

I walked into this one expecting it to be a romantic comedy but it was quite a bit heavier than I expected. The comedy IS there but the core of the story is about hidden heartaches and how we each have our own challenges no matter what facade we put on.

My Story For You (Chinese Drama, Finished)
So…this one premiered AND finished while I was on vacation which means I haven’t got around to checking it out. I keep wondering if I should give it a go but have been too busy playing catch up? For those of you who checked it out, how was it?
