Sketch (Korean Drama, New)
Dang, what a beautiful cast…can’t we just make this one into a sizzling romance instead of supernatural crime drama? Raine plays a seasoned detective that ends up working with our heroine who can sketch out crime scenes that will happen in the future. This one is fairly dark and a brain twister as we try to figure out along with our leads if averting one tragedy will help or just cause another tragedy somewhere else. The first two episodes were very fast paced, the acting solid and the story intriguing right from the beginning. A great start…but I sincerely hope for some romance to justify such a beautiful cast.
Love Won’t Wait (Chinese Drama, New)
The Chinese remake of 2016 K-family drama, Happy Home (Lee Sang Woo & Kim So Yeon). Based on the first couple episodes, the C-version seems to be sticking fairly close to the original set up (Our heroine who is in immense pain from the death of her son will end up being forced by her evil mother-in-law to get a divorce then falls in love with the doctor who actually operated on her son.) with a few minor changes. However, the fact that Vanness Wu is playing the role of our heroine’s husband (soon-to-be ex) makes me wonder if the C-version will change the story drastically and make Vanness Wu’s character the hero instead of the doctor. The K-version actually gave the heroine’s ex a lot of story time (too much in my opinion) so it makes sense in some way to just go ahead and make that particular character the hero.

I really liked Happy Home when it aired but a lot of that was based on the star power of Lee Sang Woo and Kim So Yeon, so I don’t see myself following the C-remake.
Talking Bones (Chinese Drama, New)
Based on real cases from the career of a well known female forensic doctor in China, Talking Bones follows our heroine (a new forensic doctor) as she uses her talent to help her team track down a serial killer.

Hmm…episode one was kinda bland but I am really hard to please lately when it comes to crime dramas so for those of you who are in the mood for this type of story, Talking Bones is probably just fine.
Love After School (Korean Web Drama, Finished)
I stumbled upon this super cute web drama and watched it in one shot. At 7-8 minutes per episode and 8 episodes total, I probably shouldn’t call this one a “drama” but it was still a great little gem. Youtube has this one (last I checked), just searched for “Love After School Drama”.
Goodbye to Goodbye (Korean Drama)
This one came out last week but I didn’t have a chance to check it out. Episode one was a bit scattered with the story jumping randomly between a woman who has shut herself off from the world after her marriage fell apart and a young woman whose life is thrown into chaos when she finds out that she is pregnant. Realizing she is completely on her on once her jerky boyfriend gruffly tells her they will have to split the cost to abort the baby, the young woman shows up at her boyfriend’s mother’s house…the woman who has shut herself in the house, then promptly informs her that she is moving in.

From the looks of it, Goodbye to Goodbye is mostly about two women in crisis becoming each other’s salvation so I am not sure if we will have much of romance in this one. However, the show is strangely compelling despite the randomness in the first episode and the lack of romance (at least for now). Thanks to a great cast (lots of experienced actors here mix with promising young talents), the acting is solid all around and the story is heartbreaking yet warming at the same time. I am still holding out hope that we might get some romance later, but judging by how glued to the screen I was from episode two on, I think I am actually okay even without it.
I Am A Mother Too (Korean Drama, New)
Despite having a seemingly perfect life, Kyung Shin feels like her world has ended when the doctor informs her that the condition of her body makes it impossible for her to get pregnant. Under immense pressure from her mother-in-law to have a child, Kyung Shin ends up hiring a surrogate mother. However, something that should’ve ended all of Kyung Shin’s trouble becomes complicated when her brother-in-law falls in love with the surrogate mother.

This one is a K-daily so way too early to tell if this one is a winner yet but I didn’t get impatient with the first couple episodes which is a good sign for a daily.
Basketball Fever (Chinese Drama, New)
Wanting to fulfill his best friend’s last wish, our hero resolutely gives up an offer from NBA and goes back to China so he could enroll in the college that held a special meaning to his best friend. Thanks to his new college basketball team, our hero begins to heal from his traumatic past, learn the meaning of true teamwork and finding love. Ready for the angst? Our heroine is actually our hero’s best friend’s first love and for some reason, the best friend’s sister believes our hero is to blame for her brother’s death so things will get quite complicated once all that are thrown into the mix.

This one for some reason reminds me a lot of the older Taiwanese sports dramas…specifically Jerry Yan’s 2008 Hot Shot (talk about the way back machine) so it makes me all nostalgic, in a good way.
Meet In Youth Love In Food (Chinese Drama, New)
Without any family to call her own, our heroine, an aspiring chef is used to working all kinds of jobs in hopes that one day she could pay off her enormous debt. Overjoyed when a mysterious but VERY rich man suddenly hires her as a private chef, our heroine pulls out all stops to impress her new client…only to have it end with our hero throwing up at the sight of her food. Unbeknownst to our hero, the mysterious man who subsequently has several more unpleasant run ins with her is actually her childhood friend/first love. Left on their own, our two leads’ adult reunion would’ve ended right there but thanks to a surprising will left by our hero’s father, our two leads have to work together to revive a once well known restaurant.

The story sounds fairly predictable but I liked the first couple episodes. There really weren’t many surprises in tearm of character and story set up, yet I found it an easy watch anyway.
