Wen Nuan
Surprised to find herself as a possible candidate to become her company’s CEO’s new executive secretary, Wen Nuan blurts out to her interviewer that her boyfriend is actually the CEO of her company’s biggest competitor. Surprised again, when she gets the job despite her admission, Wen Nuan prepares herself mentally to the reality that she now has to work with her ex-boyfriend, Zhan Nan Xian…the ex-boyfriend she has been unable to forget for the past seven years.

Her heart frozen for seven years, Wen Nuan is resigned to the fact that Zhan Nan Xian is the only man her heart will accept…but could their love be revived when our hero already has a superstar as a girlfriend and a past full of hurt that even time cannot soothe.

Zhan Nan Xian

Seemingly in possession of everything a man could want in life, our hero has built an impressive empire out of the ashes of global recession AND has a top star actress as his girlfriend. With everyone in agreement that Zhan Nan Xian will soon marry his top star girlfriend of seven years, our hero’s closest friends are puzzled when Nan Xian starts to pay particular attention to his new executive secretary.

Unbeknownst to everyone, everything Nan Xian has worked for was all for one thing and one thing only… Wen Nuan.  But does our hero want revenge against our heroine who broke up with him without any reason seven years ago OR does he want to get her back?

Ninja’s First Impression:

I am finding this one an easy watch. I wouldn’t necessarily call it addicting by any means but the story is pretty good, the acting solid and the easy chemistry between the two leads is a bonus. In fact, I liked the story enough that I went in search of the novel the drama is based on and read the novel.

For those who might be curious, there are some differences between the drama and the novel. For example, the heroine’s sister is a lot more upbeat and spunky in the drama. The whole romance line between the older sister and her subordinate didn’t happen in the novel either. Our hero’s super star girlfriend didn’t try to get between our two leads. In fact, neither of the second lead (Yi Xin and Zhu Lin Lu) really did much to get between our two leads. Both of them were certainly in love with our leads at one point but after seven years, Yi Xin and Lin Lu have long realized there is no place in our two leads’ heart for them. The biggest obstacle between our two leads was always themselves and their past that kept them as prisoners.

Another interesting difference between the novel and the drama is that in the novel, our two leads actually wish they could move on and has more than once seriously considered of just settling down with the one who has faithfully stuck by their side for the last seven years but of course their hearts refuse to be logical. One brilliant change the drama did make to the story is adding the part about our heroine sleepwalking and calling our hero on the phone without remembering the next day. In the novel we could get long descriptions about the heroine’s state of mind, but the drama was able to use the whole sleepwalking part to show us our heroine’s inner turmoil.

Now, the story itself is not without issues. For example, I find it a tad bit annoying that neither of our leads finds it a problem that both of them already have someone else by their side. Granted, the truth is that they were both fake relationships but our heroine at least should’ve believed our hero is already someone else’ man- especially in the drama.

Some minor annoyance aside, overall, I still think the show is solid. Most importantly…it is not draggy!!! (Crossing my fingers I didn’t just jinx it.) There are some secondary plots but they are fairly painless and the focus of the story is still mostly on our two leads.

ps. There is some stuff in the novel I am dying to talk about but I can’t since it will spoil the story right now, so check back when the show ends and I will talk about them in the end of the show review.
