She gave a shrug and happily walked out of the pavilion. As she walked way, she could be heard muttering with relief, “I finally returned it, it was so troublesome to have to carry it everywhere…” Without turning her head, she added, “Don’t come send me off tomorrow. I am afraid you will cry. That’s it. Goodbye.”

Feng Zhi Wei watched her striding away, her hand gently caressing the box in hand, something in her eyes shimmered.

Hearing a sudden noise behind her, Feng Zhi Wei was startled and remembered that there was a pathway hidden in this garden. Did certain someone come? Her first reaction was to hide the box, but there was no place to hide it. Without any other choice, Feng Zhi Wei could only stuff the box under her and put her buttocks right on top of it.

Faint sounds came from the direction of that “special” well and as expected, Ning Yi was the one who emerged from it. Recently, he has been popping up from there now and then, coming to her in the middle of the night to discuss the South Mountain case, about how to control the direction of the investigation, etc. He is coming so often Feng Zhi Wei doesn’t even dare to go to bed too early in case this person would one day be brazen enough to go have “discussions” with her in bed.

Ning Yi stepped out of the well and saw her sitting there, looking as if she was waiting for him. With a faint smile in his eyes, he greeted her, “You are waiting here for me?”

Feng Zhi Wei sat unmoving, looked at him with raised eyebrows, and said sarcastically, “One would almost think this is Your Highness’ backyard.”

“Don’t be so stingy.” Ning Yi went to sit down beside her but discovered that Feng Zhi Wei was sitting in the pavilion’s corner, with a straight back and an upright posture, shrouded in a “don’t come close to me” aurora. Smiling with a raised eyebrow, Ning Yi sat down across from her, leaned against the pavilion railing, and asked, “What’s there to eat? I just got back from the justice department and I am starving. I am tired of the snacks from the kitchen so I was hoping to find something novel here.”

Feng Zhi Wei said slowly, “There is something but I am afraid you won’t dare to eat it.”

“Why would I not dare to eat it?” Seemingly in a good mood, Ning Yi’s eyes were full of laughter, “I knew it. I knew with Hua Qing leaving tomorrow, there would definitely be delicious foods over here.”

Feng Zhi Wei glanced at him, clapped her hands towards the sky and someone appeared from behind a tree. Feng Zhi Wei ordered, “Ask the cook to make that egg custard and bring it over.”

The guard left with the order. Seeing the guard’s ghost-like impressive movements, something flashed in Ning Yi’s eyes but he still said with a grin, “Egg custard? I thought it would be some strange new thing. Isn’t this too shabby, to send Hua Qing off, you fed her this?”

“No, no, no.” Feng Zhi Wei shook her head with a smile, “This is no ordinary egg custard. This is something only heaven has and rarely found on Earth. Once Your Highness tasted it, Your Highness will certainly never forget it for the rest of your life.”

“Your things, I will never forget for the rest of my life. I only fear that you like to forget too much.” Nine Yi smiled, his words obviously carrying a double meaning. He suddenly turned to look at Feng Zhi Wei and frowned, “You look a little odd today. Why are you sitting so upright?”

Feng Zhi Wei was also cursing secretly inwardly– why did you make the box so square? Its hard surface was pressing against her backside so that she couldn’t even tilt slightly.

She sat in the most dignified and virtuous posture as she flashed a fake smile at the prince, “Xiao Gu (Gu Nan Yi) taught me a new skill of practicing my internal energy. It requires me to sit upright and do my breathing in a place where the moon is bright and the wind is clear.”  To make her point, she inhaled with a somber expression.

Ning Yi’s face suddenly leaned close and frowned.

“Hey…what is this?”

Feng Zhi Wei’s heart skipped a beat, she looked down to see Ning Yi holding a corner of her sleeve. Ning Yi leaned close to look at it carefully and even rubbed it with his fingers, “Huh? Minced meat?’

Feng Zhi Wei didn’t know if she should cry or laugh once she took a good look at what Ning Yi found. It turned out a while ago when Gu Zhi Xiao was sprayed with a faceful of the bug custard by Yan Huaishi, she had also gotten a bit of the custard on the corner of her clothes while she was wiping Zhi Xiao’s face. Who knew Ning Yi would see it with his sharp eyes?

However, Ning Yi didn’t notice the little something under her. Secretly breathing a sigh of relief, she quickly pulled back her sleeve and said with a smile, “Good stuff, I’ve specially reserved for my night snack.”

Ning Yi smiled, sat back down across from her, leaned against the railing, and said, “Yesterday, my father went hunting and he didn’t summon Second to come keep him company.”

Feng Zhi Wei smiled. With people such as them, there was no need to explain things. Second Prince was found of martial arts. In the past, any time the emperor went hunting, Second Prince would be asked to accompany him. It’s a signal itself that he would suddenly be left out now.

“We need to be careful that he doesn’t become another Fifth Prince and try to fight like a trapped beast.” Ning Yi said solemnly, “How about I allocate another team of people to protect you?”

“You would be better to protect yourself.” Feng Zhi Wei smiled, “Although neither of us came forward directly this time, but Second Prince must have guessed your hand was in it, so be careful.”

Ning Yi didn’t speak but instead, simply stared at her with soft gentle eyes. There was a slight smile in the silence, causing the very wind surrounding them to warm up a bit because of this hint of a smile. Feeling a bit uncomfortable under his stare, but not wanting to ask, afraid she would just hear heart skipping words so she could only pretend to look all around while asking, “Ah, why is the food not here yet?”

“I am suddenly not hungry anymore, I feel very satisfied.” Ning Yi turned sideways, leaning against the railing, looking out at the water, and suddenly turned to say with a smile, “It’s been a long time. You are finally showing concern towards me again.”

Feng Zhi Wei returned an awkward smile, just when she wanted to change the topic again, a fragrance wafted in from afar. The guard appeared with the tray, and Feng Zhi Wei waved him to set the same old “Bug Egg Custard” dish in front of Ning Yi. Feng Zhi Wei smiled and extended her hand, “Pigeon eggs, flying dragon minced meat soup. If you care to try it, Your Highness.”

Her smile was very normal. Neither too enthusiastic nor too serious. Ning Yi looked at her suspiciously but due to his hunger, finally scooped up a spoonful and tasted it slowly. Immediately, his eyes lit up, and praised, “It’s good!”

“Of course it’s good.” Feng Zhi Wei was all smiles as she looked at him.

Ning Yi came over with a small bowl, scooped out a spoonful, and extended his hand toward her as he said, “How could I just eat this delicious food by myself? Come, you have some too.”

Startled, Feng Zhi Wei stood up halfway in a hurry but promptly sat back down once she remembered she was not supposed to move. Vaguely feeling a creak under her body, she quickly shifted her body and said with a smile, “Don’t! I ate too much tonight. My stomach is still bloated from all the food. I would vomit if I ate anymore. That wouldn’t be good would it?”

Ning Yi pulled the spoon back, and with the same bright smile, he said lightly, “Oh? Really?” With a bit of regret, he took a few more bites accompanied by some more praises before setting the dish aside.

He is a member of the imperial family, no matter what he eats, he will only take a few bites. Even when he likes something he won’t be greedy like normal people. Even his preferences are under tight control so other people would not be able to tell and use them against him. Feng Zhi Wei didn’t have any expectation of him eating too much of the dish, so when he stopped after taking a few more mouthfuls, she immediately rested her grinning face on her hands and said, “So…Your Highness…I didn’t finish my words just now.”

“Oh?”
