Synopsis: With a shameful past as a dancer and a slave, our heroine thought her blissful life would finally begin after her fiancé passes the Imperial Government Exam. Holding onto her belief in her fiancé despite news of him planning to marry another, our heroine embarks on a journey to the Capital to personally find her fiancé. While on her journey, our heroine would end up saving our hero- the commander of the Imperial Intelligence Agency. A bit leary of our hero’s reputation at first as The Devil, our heroine soon sees the kindness in the man everyone feared.
First Impression: I was really kinda in a drama slump but this one got me fired back up! True to her title as the Chinese fairy goddess, actress Liu Yifei is as beautiful as always and I am really liking her character which has a great mix of spunkiness and vulnerability. As for our male lead, I have to confess that while I have always liked actor Chen Xiao but he hasn’t always picked drama that enticed me. If the first ten episodes of A Dream of Spendor are any indication of the rest of the show though, I think Chen Xiao has picked a winner this time. One thing that was especially a pleasant surprise was the awesome sizzling chemistry between Chen Xiao and Liu Yifei. I found myself squealing plenty of times whenever our hero looks at our heroine with his melt-your-bones sort of gaze.
While there is plenty of romance in this one, there was one thing I didn’t mention in the synopsis which is the sisterhood/friendship between our heroine and her two friends. On her journey to the capital, our heroine will also end up rescuing her best friend and a younger sister-like friend who both have been hurt terribly by love as well. The three women would help and support each other as they bravely try to blaze a path through a world that keeps trying to keep them down.

I am enjoying this drama as well, at first it reminded me a bit of Autumn Ballad, but it’s diverged and different in plot now, worth a watch so far ☺️
