Broadcast Date: April 2022 (Tue & Wed)

Total Episodes: 40

Leads: Yang Yang (You Are My Glory, Love O2O) & Zho Lu Si (The Romance of Tiger and Rose & A Female Student Arrives at the Imperial College)

Synopsis: Their names might sound similar and they might even share the title of being the best fighter in the world, but as their names suggest, he being black and her being white, they are as different as night and day. He is elegant and gentle-mannered while she is outlandish and impulsive. Yet, no matter how much our heroine distrusts our hero and sees him as a cold-blooded calculating fox, he is the one who will always show up when she is in trouble. In a world that has been thrown into chaos by men’s greed, could the unlikely love between two legendary figures finally bring about the long-awaited peace?

First Impression: Sigh…as I feared, while I did eventually get used to Yang Yang playing the hot head character in Glory of Special Force (currently on air), it was with great relief when I saw Yang Yang back to the familiar ground of playing our aloof/gentle/cunning hero here. I do feel a bit guilty since I know it’s terrible and probably quite boring for an actor/actress to get locked into a specific type of character, but I guess I will just say that while I will try to be supportive when they try to expand their repertoire it should still be ok for us as viewers to squeal with joy when they accept the type of roles that made them so popular in the first place.

With the star power of Yang Yang and Zho Lu Si paired with a very intriguing story, I went into this one with a fairly high expectation…and some trepidation. The trepidation came from the fact I had attempted to read the novel Who Rules the World is based on a few times before it aired and for some reason, the story just couldn’t hold my interest. If I had to take a wild guess, I think the author tried to introduce too many “bigger than life” characters all at once so that it ended up making her own main characters forgettable. Sort of like “If everyone is special then no one is special?”

I am only about three episodes in, but I am already seeing some promising changes the show had made to the story so the hero isn’t relegated to some forgotten corner. I was especially glad to see the show added some much-appreciated scenes between the two leads right from the start so we can see how their relationship developed. Our two leads’ chemistry is looking very promising thus far and Lu Si Yu is of course always great at these mischievous roles. While I am still a bit worried if the story could hold up for 40 episodes, overall, I am quite happy with the show for now and honestly would probably just watch it because of how pretty it is.
