Merry Christmas! I get excited for the holidays since it usually means more time for me to read and watch shows! I figure some of you might be interested in what shows I cozy up with during this holiday season so here is a list. Now, when I am in my “snacks + blanket + drink” mood the shows I want are often a mixture of newish shows I am trying to catch up on and old favorites I want to revisit so my list will be a mix of shows that fit in those two categories.
Old Favorites:
Before We Get Married (T-Drama, 2019, Viki.com)
This one is obviously not an oldie but it doesn’t exactly fit in the “new” list either so I am putting it here. When I am in the mood to watch something sexy with sizzling chemistry then this T-drama is the one I turn to.
Another Oh Hae Young (K-Drama, 2016, Viki.com)
Seo Hyun Jin’s new drama Black Dog is more serious than I am in the mood for right now so I figure I might as well marathon one of her older drama with Eric that I had loved.
Catching Up:
Gracious Revenge (K-daily)
This one is deliciously messy. Like most makjang K-dailies, you will need to suspend your logic (ie. does the male second lead think he is Clark Kent that he can fool people into thinking he is another person just by putting on a pair of glasses?) but I am liking this one quite a bit…especially when I can use the fast forward button liberally.
Second Time Is A Charm (C-Drama)
This one is done so I just finished marathoning this two days ago. I liked the fact that our heroine’s first marriage ended wasn’t solely our heroine’s or her ex’s fault. I especially loved that the ex and our heroine still saw each other as family even if they they are destined to walk different paths now. The heroine’s character was a bit childish in the beginning but luckily her character was also quite charming after a few episodes. Our heroine’s new love interest hilariously is the ex’s lawyer and their romance is pretty cute. Now, I do have to warn you the evil female second lead (who is after the ex) is REALLY annoying but other than that particular character there is really no true villain in this one.
Joy of Life (C-Drama, Viki.com)
I was actually initially more interested in Sword Dynasty especially after I read the book Sword Dynasty was based on…but the show (AND the book too) got really bogged down with countless side characters. I am not giving up on Sword Dynasty though since the story is quite good so I will check back on it later.
Joy of Life has been getting great reviews thanks to its ability to inject plenty of comedic moments to what should’ve been a fairly serious political intrigue. I am only caught up to episode 6 as of right now but as one who usually doesn’t care for shows that are too focused on politics, I am thoroughly impressed with Joy of Life’s ability in striking a perfect balance between captivating political intrigue and laugh out loud comedy.
