From Survivor to Healer (Chinese Drama, New)

Still have yet to recover from their traumatic breakup five years ago back while they were in college, our two leads are reunited when our heroine is convinced by her old professor to accept a job at the hospital he works at. Quite dismayed to discover that she has unwittingly become co-workers with her ex, our heroine wants nothing to do with our hero who sees this as a second chance for them. In essence, this is a show about therapists who helps their patients to overcome challenges while they themselves also need to work out their own trauma.

While I think there will be plenty of romance between our leads, it is obvious from the first couple episodes that the show is also just as much about the patients’ stories. Because of the subject matter, the show doesn’t exactly give off a happy sort of vibe but I liked the first two episodes enough that I am planning to check out a few more episodes. Viki has this one.

Detective L (Chinese Drama, New)

Bai Yu’s new C-mystery where he plays a brilliant private detective who moonlights as the local police station’s consultant. Our heroine is the newbie detective who ends up getting roped in as our hero’s partner. This one is set in the 1930’s so a little later than the Sherlock Holmes era but the show still gives off a similar vibe as well.

I wasn’t really expecting a romance line in this one but based on the few scenes in the post-credits I am starting to be quite hopeful. I believe Youtube has this one raw.

Mistresses (Japanese Drama, New)

A remake of British TV series of the same name that aired back in 2008. Or you might remember the 2018 OCN K-drama remake version as well (with Han Ga In). The story starts with a female doctor who has an affair with a terminally ill patient and things snowball out of control when her lover’s son finds out about her existence after his father commits suicide. The female doctor has three other friends who will each have their own special sort of challenge (hint: the name of the show).

This is not the sort of story I would be interested in but I do have to say that just based on the first episode of the K-drama vs J-drama, the K-drama did a better job at catching my attention right off the bat. Still, J-drama is pretty good at doing twisted mystery so I am sure this newest version will be able to hold its own somehow.

Ghostderella (Korean Web Drama, New)

More comfortable living with ghosts than humans, our heroine has shut herself in a small apartment for the last three years. Ignoring her ghost roommates plea for her to step outside of her house, our heroine convinces herself that she is perfectly content with her life…until our hero (a ghost too) shows up at her doorstep asking for help.

Kinda refreshing to have a ghost story with a heroine who actually prefers to be around ghosts instead of humans. It probably helps that the ghosts in this story don’t look scary at all but really could pass off as normal human beings.

Love and Destiny (Chinese Drama, Upcoming…sometime in 2020)

For you all who are still missing C-actress Ni Ni terribly after falling in love with her in The Rise of Phoenixes, here is a promo from her C-fantasy upcoming drama Love and Destiny.

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=htDtTsvzXzI

Ni Ni plays an innocent young girl who unintentionally awakens the God of War Jiuchen after he has been asleep for ten thousand years (due to a battle to seal up the demon king). Unwilling to kill our innocent heroine despite knowing that her body has the energy to free the demon king, our hero eventually finds a way to resolve the hidden danger in our heroine’s body. Unfortunately, the demon king is released anyway and our hero is forced to leave our heroine’s side and head into battle. The story’s synopsis ends with the very unhappy line that after defeating the demon king…again, our hero who has exhausted all his life force falls into our heroine’s embrace…

If the promo reminds you of Ten Miles of Peach Blossoms then you are right on the money since the production team that gave us Ten Miles of Peach Blossoms also produced this one. Now, while the production team is the same and even the world is set in a similar one as Three Miles, the book Love and Destiny is based on was not written by the same author as Ten Miles. I have not read the book but based on what I could find so far, I don’t believe the book is actually finished yet…which gives me great hope that the show might have a happy ending despite the ominous synopsis.

While we are on the topic of Eternal Love/Ten Miles of Peach Blossom, I was super excited to see that Eternal Love, The Pillow Book is scheduled to air on June 12th of this year! (C-drama’s scheduling can be affected by a bunch of things though so don’t get too attached to the date.) I am REALLY hoping the drama will work some miracles on the story because the novel itself is kinda of a mess. There are definitely a lot of potentials to the story and there were parts of the novel I really liked so the scriptwriters should have lots to work with.

Vengo Gao & Dilraba Dilmurat will be reprising their roles from Ten Miles as Bai Fengjiu and Dong Hua. Some of the other actors from Ten Miles will be coming back as well but not all. For example, Zhe Yan (the phoenix immortal who lives in the peach blossom forest, the picture on the left) will be played by a different actor. We will also have a few new characters and villains of course.

I love Dilraba Dilmurat’s funny pose on the left so I had to share it.

As for the little boy, that’s Fengjiu and Dong Hua’s son. In the novel, no one from Dong Hua’s side…including our hero himself would find out about the little boy until the very end so I am really hoping the drama will give us a few more scenes of the cute father and son’s reunion
