He Is Psychometric (Korean Drama, New)

Gifted with a special power to see people’s secrets when he touches them, our hero, a high school boy dreams of one day he can fight crimes with his ability. His power still untrained and seemingly not much help with the random images it provides, our young hero is stuck on how to use his gift until he meets our heroine, the new transferred student to his class who has a secret that she very much wants to hide.

I really liked the first two episodes He Is Psychometric. The pacing was fast, the acting great (the two young leads have great chemistry together), and the story seems solid thus far. I also liked that our hero’s special gift doesn’t just show him everything but that it’s more like a puzzle where he has to use all the images he sees as clues to solve crimes.

Destiny’s Love (Chinese Drama, New)

A being from another planet, our hero shows up on Earth in search of the woman he loves…who because of what he did before in an attempt to save her could not live past the age of 30 in every one of her reincarnations. Our heroine is a workaholic entertainment producer so lots of funny misunderstandings will happen when she meets our hero who dresses and talks like he is from ancient times.

Episode one was pretty amusing although C-drama has put out many similar shows in the last bit so I am having a bit of difficult time being interested in yet another one.

Cong Er’s Preach (Chinese Drama, New)

Based on the legendary life of Duke Wen of Jin, Cong Er’s Preach follows our hero’s epic journey from an abandoned prince, to his famous long period of exile, and finally his triumphant return to power.

At 70+ episodes I can’t see myself following this one especially since historically Duke Wen of Jin has quite a few wives so I am sure other than our heroine, we will get plenty of other love interests as well. However, the two leads do have a fairly cute meeting where our heroine fools our hero into believing she is a young man.

Channel wa Sono Mama! (Japanese Drama, New)

Yukimaru Hanako is a 22 years old field reporter for a television station…and an enigma to her co-workers. Unable to understand why the tv station would hire Yukimaru Hanako whose bumbling personality causes constant chaos at their workplace, one of our heroine’s co-worker begins to observe her closely and discovers something surprising about the effect our heroine has on those around her.

Based on a manga of the same name, Channel wa Sono Mama! is only five episodes long so the pacing is quite fast. Bumbling heroines are usually not my sort of thing but I like the wacky humor of the show as it slowly reveals different surprising benefits of our heroine’s personality has on those around her.

Heavenly Sword and Dragon Slaying Saber (Chinese Drama)

After skipping most of the background story, I started watching the show from about episode 16 which is where our hero meets/reunites with Zhou Zhiruo (the second female lead who saved his life when he was young). Unless you know the story fairly well I probably wouldn’t recommend this…unless you are planning to go back and watch it later.

I am currently caught up to the latest episode (ep.24) and I am happy to report that I am actually really liking this newest version. All the slow-motion fighting took some getting used to, but I do think out of all the versions, this newest one has the best fighting scenes. One thing I am curious about is what they will do with the hero’s romantic entanglements with all the female leads. In some of the other versions, Zhang Wuji (the hero) can come off pretty useless and indecisive when it comes to his women problems, mostly due to his tendency to not want to hurt anyone. While I don’t see any major changes to the storyline, it would be nice if after our hero’s initial confusion of “Oh, no. So many beautiful girls who all love me!” (which is totally understandable for someone as young and inexperienced as our hero), we could see a more definite development of our two leads’ relationship thus explaining why our heroine is the one for Zhang Wuji.

3/21

Deng Deng A Wo De Qing Chu (Chinese Drama, New)

The straight translation of the Chinese title is “Wait For Me, My Youth”. Harboring a crush on the school’s most handsome boy, our heroine could hardly believe her bad luck when serval unfortunate circumstances keep throwing her and crush’s best friend together so that her crush now believes her to be in love with his best friend. The best friend will eventually become our heroine’s desk mate and a romance that is very different from the one our heroine had dreamed of will begin.

The story will follow our leads and their friends into adulthood (about late twenties) so there will be plenty of coming of age issues.

A Story to Read When You First Fall in Love (Japanese Drama, Finished)

I followed this one faithfully from beginning to end! This is an accomplishment given how fickle I have been lately in my drama watching. I love K-drama and C-dramas but J-romance still has a special place in my heart. The story overall was very cute and heartwarming. What the story lacked in complexity, it made up with charm. I usually dislike stories where there are multiple male leads but this one was an exception where I actually liked all three male leads and was interested in their individual storylines.

I am happy to report that my ship didn’t sink and the heroine ended up with who I was hoping for…albeit if she was my best friend in real life I probably would’ve adviced her to make a different choice but who cares about real life when you are in a fairytale!
