So I have been playing with the idea of doing Ninja Chatter to replace my Friday Drama Roundup post. Ninja Chatter would be an ongoing post that will record my thoughts not only on new shows but shows I am following as well. Since I am still on the road right now therefore not able to do the Friday Drama Roundup, I thought this is as good of a time as any to try my idea out.

The Story Of Minglan (Chinese Drama)
I really wasn’t sure what to expect from this one before I checked it out. Naturally, I was super curious about the drama that brought together it’s two leads (Zanilia Zhao and William Feng) in real life who actually got married a short while ago. However, the show’s trailer was vague enough that it really didn’t inspire much confidence in the show.
As the title of the show suggests, the drama centers on our heroine’s life. The story begins while our heroine is still a young child when she will learn the bitter lesson to hide her intelligence to her unlikely love story with our hero who will eventually need her help to forge a path to their own happy-ever-after.
I am three episodes in and I am surprisingly enjoying the childhood part of the story…even if I did cry my eyes out in episode three. However, the issue with any great childhood backstory is that I now worry if the adult actors can match it…

Hello Again (Taiwanese Drama)
Haven’t had the chance to watch the first episode yet, but I did check out the long trailer (sorry, no Eng subs for now) for the first episode. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=BPCkx_5-ueU
The trailer opens with our hero, as the vice president of an elite department store, finding out that he is apparently losing all his customers to a small store located in a cheap shopping market close by. Charging right over to the market to confront our heroine, our hero is amazed when the store owner turns out to be his high school nemesis- the girl who disappeared after she was supposed to settle their bet in their new college. Determined to settle their bet even if it was 10 years late, our hero promptly begins to pester our heroine to come work for him at the department store. Unable to understand at first why our heroine seems unmoved by the great opportunity he is offering her, our hero finally sees with his own eyes the reason our heroine keeps on rejecting him. Jumping in to protect our heroine from a dangerous blow from the debt collector thug with his own body, our hero’s heart melts as our heroine breaks down in tears and confess that she has been living under the overwhelming burden of paying back the astronomical debt her family has incurred. To make her life seem even more hopeless, the debt collector thugs could at will use various means to wipe away any headway she has made the last ten years. Pierced to the core by our heroine’s pain, our hero grabs the loan agreement from the debt collector’s hand as he loudly declares “I will pay her debt!”

Behind The Scenes (Chinese Drama, New)
Synopsis: Overjoyed to have the opportunity to be an intern at her idol’s production company, our heroine turns down a much coveted position at a TV station without a second thought. Stubbornly believing that our hero’s nickname as the “devil” producer with a Midas touch is nothing that will ever damper her admiration for his talent, our heroine belatedly finds out the hard way that our heroine’s personality is…um…difficult. Not willing to simply take the easy way out by quitting when she realizes her idol might be quite different in real life, our heroine chooses to stay and eventually earns her place right alongside of our hero.
I was intrigued by the pairing of Luo Jin and Zhou Dongyu so I went into this one pretty hopeful. After three episodes, we are slowly getting past the background set up and while the pacing was slower than I expected, I liked it enough to give it a few more episodes. My only issue: the show is trying so hard to emphasize how exhusting it is to produce a variety show that both of our leads walk around like pale sickly hospital patients.
Nooooo! I need your Friday Drama Roundup. Thanks for your past hard work! FDR is where I find most of the J-dramas I watch, and your background on the directors and writers of K-dramas is faster than clicking all over Asianwiki to see if their past shows indicate that their new work will be worth watching.
No worries, all the Friday Drama Roundup stuff will still be in the Ninja Chatter. Plus, this is just a test run to see if I (and you guys) like the Chatter format or the Friday Drama Roundup better, so there is a big chance I would totally go back to the Drama Roundup if this format is not a good fit.
I will miss your Drama Roundup for sure, especially since you also talk about Japanese Drama.
There is nothing I heared about MingLan that makes me want to watch it now. Proably something for a long trip when it is finished. *shrugs*
I watch minglan too and i like it.
I’m wait your translate
lol 🙂
Ha…ha. I AM intrigued enough with the story to check out the novel though.
how about ever night?
you not translate it?
:'(
I am still planning on updating that post but it won’t be until later this week.
ok …
#waiting…
🙂
Love the chatter concept but want the FDRs to continue as well..you’ve made us greedy… 😀 :D.
The trailor of MingLan was so meh that I didn’t even bother to check it out.
King of Blaze is something ‘m still watching, though I’m currently skipping 3-4 episodes & still seem to be getting the story….wonder what that says about the show.. lol!
Though what I did find on YT was a Chinese show called Flipping. Have you watched it? The characters & romance is cute and the enhanced abilities premise an added plus. *Spoiler*-Though the knowledge that the sis is gonna die in the end has put a dampner on my enthusiam to watch it…..why show…why??
That one came out after I left on a trip so I haven’t had time to check it out yet. I do try to stay away from sad endings though so come back and tell me if it ends happily! If not…well, tell me as well, so I can avoid it. 🙂
I’ve watched 10 episodes (subtitled) and have watched the trailers (raw) upto episode 20. The main couple look happy and lovely dovey in them.
The only sad part, that I think will happen, is that the male lead’s sister will die. She’s dying because of her abilities, is already known. It’s just that I’d hoped that the heroine would be able to save her. Her character is as beautiful and cute as the actress herself!
I’ll keep you in the loop regarding its ending… 🙂
I also rely on you FDR for new shows to watch, but this new format is interesting too if you combined it all together. Thanks for all your hard work!
The story of minglan looks incredibly boring to me, but I’ll give it a shot if someone says it’s really good. So far, I haven’t seen any such comments though.
I’m currently watching the new Meteor Garden on Netflix and am totally addicted.
Oh, is that the newest C-version of Meteor Garden Netflix? Have you watched the other version? If not…then you do know that you will now have to watch ALL of them to be a true fan right? Ha, just kidding. But I am curious which version you will like better.
sorry for jump in….
i’m curious too lol 🙂
because i like the japan version (Meteor Garden)
i watched all version, include newest c-version
Yeah, it’s the new C-version on Netflix.
HAha, so, I guess I’m not a true fan then. The only other version I’ve seen is the Korean Boys over flowers one.
I went on YouTube cause I was curious what the original Taiwanese version was like. omg, so bad. Why does it look like it was made in the 80’s!? I think I was able to stomach 5 minutes.
The new C-version is pretty good, even my husband watched it. Some ridulous parts, but that was expected. Dylan Wang is suuuper cute. Darren Chen also does a good job. I like it better than the Korean one, but the Korean one has Lee min ho in it, so yeah…☺️
try a japan version
the Taiwanese version is more like the comic/manga version
do you read the (meteor garden) manga ?
and K-version is more like J-version
in my list, the best version is J-version and no 2 is the newest C-version
i dislike the K-version because korean sanchai character not match.
you must know, sancai is a strong girl and not easy to get bullying, but in K-version, sancai looks weak and easy to get bullying, not according to the character should be. And tau ming tse character too, not enough decisive. (you will know what i mean if you watch J-version)
that’s the point why i dislike K-version
btw…. i agree with you the new c-version is pretty good than the k-version
🙂
Cool thanks. Maybe I’ll check out the J-version. Do you recommend reading the manga? Does it continue past the shows or it ends pretty much where the show ends?
Thanks!
no, i read the manga just curious with the original story and i’m not read it till end too 😀 just read a couple volume so i don’t know the manga version ending ha ha ha….
i thought manga version is similar to Taiwan version so i’m not interested to continue
