I guess the holiday is upon us since it has been super quiet the last two weeks as far as new shows are concerned. I will actually be on the road for the next couple weeks so other than the novel translation post which will be posted at their regular schedule, the Friday Drama Roundup post will be on hold (or at least on update as I can sort of schedule). Do still check back on Friday though, because I will have my “Oldies but Goodies” recommendations for you guys. Â
Long For You 2 (Chinese Drama, New)
The original Long For You was a C-web drama that aired early last year. Despite its name, this new web drama is actually a brand new story and NOT a continuation of the original.
Our hero is an Agent of Time who fixes issues that come up (ie. Saving someone so they are not hurt…or vice versa, make it so someone who would’ve lived, will die instead.) Without any memories of his past, our hero passes through time without any meaning and yarns for the opportunity to finally recover the memories he lost. Puzzled when he meets our heroine who somehow makes his special ability as an Agent of Time malfunction, our hero will eventually realize our heroine (who also has no recollection of her past) is the very key he has been searching for.
90’s Beijing Fantasy (Chinese Drama, New)
Set in the 90’s…obviously, this is yet another C-coming of age story where our heroine will bumble through lifelong friendships and first loves.
I haven’t had time to check this one out yet. The trailer actually looks fairly decent but I have been bombarded by so many C-drama with the similar premise this year that I am having a hard time getting excited to check it out.
The King Of Blaze (Chinese Drama, New)
Not to be confused with the historical fantasy The King of Blaze that is currently airing, this one is The King of Blaze set in the modern time period. Our hero is still the same fire god but instead of finding his way around ancient China, he has built an empire in the modern world to achieve his goal of saving his world. With the same cast from the historical The King of Blaze, it was kinda fun to see what everyone’s new role is in the modern setting. I do have to admit though that after checking out the first episode I felt the historical set up was more intriguing and attention catching than the modern one.
Original Sin (Chinese Drama, New)
Once each other’s nemesis, our two male leads, a top lawyer who lost his law license and a detective captain will eventually put their difference behind them as they team up to become a forbidden duo of crime busters.
First episode looks pretty slick so for those of you who like CSI sort of show with a heavy dose of bromance this one might be a good bet.

Either they’re not available for me to watch or they don’t look interesting. The guy from Original Sin I did recognize from Love Me If You Dare – he certainly looks different!
I liked the story of King of Blaze Season 1 more but I love the modern setting more since it has a SciFi vibe. And I like the idea having gods living in a future world instead of ancient who is common in Drama world. So it is 50:50 yet.
Until now I’m bored that Di Yun is such a typical evil character. Even daddy had more charisma and wasn’t that whiney. I always roll my eyes when he shows up.
Too bad Du Jun Ze had such little screentime since I think he is the only one who truly is an eyecandy :P. His character seems to the lover of the heroine this time, probably a past one or in future.
King of Blaze has now been on the Blue Planet for 1385 years and ‘m wondering how he dindn’t go stark raving mad….being all alone.
The stars are lining up in the exact same pattern as before, his friends and lover have come into his life once again after more than a millennium of him being without them.
I loved the 1st part except:
1. Fire God’s sometimes hot sometimes cold attitude towards poor Fengjian. His methods got old really fast! That’s why Fengjian’s death didn’t impact me as much as The God of Thunder & Goddess of Water’s did. Even though we knew they’re are ill-fated in their current avatars…seeing them die like this was really heart-wrenching. 2. Though I wish the show had shown them using their powers as well during the innumerable perils they suffered and becoing aware of their true selves (of being God and all).
3. The God-turned villains were shown as crafty and creepy and smart and always a step-ahead of the good guys. And then they all died….just like that!
4. I get why Fire God erased his memories of his time with Fengjian, losing Qin Mai wasn’t easy for him but losing Fengjian would have destroyed him and since he still had a mission impossible to complete, he earsed her from his mind. But what that has done is basically erase the sequence of events and the people he met during that time. So he doesn’t remember is that he had met his Godly counterparts in their human form once before and that he had fought and defeated two out of the seven, who had turned bad; unwillingly and willingly.
In present times, the cave where Di Yun was frozen by their holographic ancestor and their teacher is in a self frozen state, has been uncovered. I’m worried Blazie has forgotten the demented-by-love Di Yun’s actions and will welcome the enemy home with open arms. And if their teacher thaws out…won’t their Immortal World collapse? Why isn’t Blaze worried about that? And whose is the third frozen body that was discovered in those caves?
I’ve only been able to watch the 1st episode of the present times (that was the only one subbed till now). And I agree with you, the historical set up was more interesting. But what I do find itriguing is that not only the Gods but supporting/influencing characters of the historical times have been reborn in this timeline as well! Water’s elder sis is now Blaze’s PA, Fengjian’s maid is now her friend, and I saw the queen with now’s Fengjian in precap. Btw, the newspaper editor looks familiar too? Is he a second-timer too? Fengjian’s dad perhaps, though the body shape is different?
What’s with Blaze and Wind’s hair in the current timeline? Was the comb not important enough to be allowed a rebirth?
To be honest I find Firey a bit too much sulking. His self hate is too much especially since his powers are getting amplified with Wind and all evils are killed off easily, poof. He surely needs a shrink.
I really love Thunder & Water interactions. They are the real adults here, at least in season 1. Season 2 feels like modern people are more silly. Hopefully both will allowed to be strong this time and not end as cannon fodder again.
Lake is the only one intruging for me. What made him turn to the dark side last time and what will make him now? That he will be the brokenhearted love interest is a bit upsetting but he had a soft spot for Windy before, so no surprise. Too bad also since for me he is the only hottie and I don’t want him get trampled on like ignorant lovers often do *sigh*. Let’s hope he will find his way back to the bright side since I believe the immortal realm only can be saved when all of them are working together. Whiney Mountain you always can get with his love for his adopted “daddy” and the promise he gave, hopefully.
ROTFL about the comb comment. I would like to add scissors too since they seem to have a proper cut in last lifetime. But that doesn’t really bothers me while watching.
Yes Yes and Yes to all your observations. The modern day interactions do seem silly esp when compared to the elegant & refined way they dressed & behaved before.
Lol the scissors 😀 😀
