About Is Love (Chinese Drama, New)
After suffering a traumatic tragedy at the age of 18, our hero ended up with a severe condition of mysophobia (fear of dirt or anything unclean) and develops an allergic reaction to human touch. As you guys can guess, our heroine is of course the one person who can touch him without causing his body to break out in a rash. By the way, our heroine also has super strength so the story kinda reminds me of the K-drama Strong Girl Bong Soon.
The synopsis certainly makes the show sounds like it had taken a bunch of other stories and mashed them into one but surprisingly, I actually liked the first few episodes. The story was pretty predictable yet I found it to be a good light watch anyway.
The Faded Light Years (Chinese Drama, New)
Inheriting her father’s talent for making clothes, our heroine stubbornly holds onto her father’s store despite her mother’s insistence that she is just a dreamer like her father. At first confused and angry when she is accused by our hero of plagiarizing his company’s design, our heroine is soon filled with indecision over her good luck once our hero decides to not sue her but instead offers her the much coveted job as his company’s designer. Our heroine will of course eventually accept our hero’s offer and become the one to help him save his own company.
I checked out the first two episode…and it was not bad but not great either. I feel a bit inundated by dramas with similar premise this year so that’s probably why I felt impatient with the story.
Coffee, Do Me a Favor (Korean Drama, New)
As a chubby ordinary looking girl who is forever getting teased about her weight, our heroine is resigned that her crush on her boss, a handsome well known webtoon artist, will forever stay as her little secret…that is until a magic cup of coffee transformed her into a beautiful slim girl.
The premise sounded a bit like the 2006 K-movie 200 lb beauty and there are obviously going to be some similarities (heroine’s reaction to being thin, both heroes work with the heroine as the boss), however, there are plenty of differences that I think the drama will feel like a completely different story once we get going.
I quite liked the first episode. The heroine’s character is a bit predictable right now but I am loving the hero’s character setup. Our hero is a man who despite being well known for his romantic webtoons is actually someone who doesn’t believe in love yet is still a genuinely kind person nonetheless. One of the thing that makes me most excited about this show is the fact that our hero already sees past our heroine’s appearance and appreciates her for who she is so I am hoping that alone will make the rest of the story feel more refreshing compared to the other shows with a similar premise.
Fates and Furies (Korean Drama, New)
After two years hiatus, Lee Min Jung is back to give us this new romantic revenge drama! I loved Lee Ming Jung and Joo Sang Wook’s chemistry in their 2014 drama Cunning Single Lady so I was excited to see them together again in this one but I wasn’t sure if I was in the mood for a revenge romance.
Lee Ming Jung plays our heroine who inherits her father’s talent as a shoemaker but the heavy weight of supporting a comatose sister and paying off her father’s debt means that our heroine is constantly struggling to make ends meet. Through several unexpected circumstances, our heroine will eventually embark on a mission to steal our hero’s (Joo Sang Wook) heart. (I had expected the revenge to be between our two leads but that’s actually not the case. Our hero just ended up being the target because he is the female second lead’s (the person the revenge is against) fiancé)
As I said, I wasn’t sure if I was in the mood for a revenge drama but once I started watching I was sucked in right away. I still kinda wished Lee Ming Jung and Joo Sang Wook could work on another romantic comedy but this one certainly looks very promising.
Less Than Evil (Korean Drama, New)
A crime thriller, this one tells the ongoing dangerous battle of wits between a genius female psychopathic killer and a detective who is well known for his willingness to employ whatever is necessary to catch criminals. I am usually impressed with Shin Ha Kyun’s (Pied Piper, Mr Baek) acting so my interest was immediately caught when I saw that he was playing our hero (the detective). As I had expected, the show was indeed intense and our hero’s character is especially awesome with all his complexities.
Something that does worry me: Our hero REALLY has no qualms when it comes to stepping over the line to catch criminals so I think it might be a bit difficult to figure out who the psychopath is as the show gets going.
Memories of the Alhambra (Korean Drama, New)
A sci-fi mystery mix with some romance. Hyun Bin plays our hero who travels to Spain after receiving a late night phone call that alerts him to the existence of a groundbreaking AR game. Checking into a run-down hostel the mysterious caller named, our hero realized belatedly…after losing his temper, that the hostel owner he just made cry is the mysterious caller’s sister. To make things even more complicated, our two leads will soon find out that our heroine’s little brother has gone missing just as strange happenings will begin to blur their realities and those of the AR world.
This one is from the same author who gave us W- Two Worlds and Nine so there is no question the story will be very creative and intriguing. However, I am not sure I cared for how heavy the plot is on the whole AR tech and showcasing how cool everything is (although it was certainly that) so I am still on the fence about this one.
