The Guest (Korean Drama, New)

Remember back a few weeks ago when I said Lovely Horribly wasn’t scary enough for me? Um…I am feeling pretty sheepish now since I have to admit that The Guest is too scary for me. I was initially pretty excited for The Guest since it tells the story of how our three leads (a psychic, a priest, and a detective) fight supernatural killers. The first episode didn’t disappoint and I was quite impressed with the story…but dang, the show is sure scary!

I really want to keep following this one but I am gonna have to conquer my fear first.

My Only One (Korean Drama, New)

UEE’s new K-family drama where she plays our hardworking heroine whose life is turned upside down when her biological father suddenly turns up one day. Clueless that she is actually adopted, our heroine grows up under the tender care of her adopted father but she has always been puzzled and sometimes angered by her adopted mother’s obvious preference for her little sister. Things get complicated when our heroine’s biological father is unexpectedly released from what should’ve been a lifetime prison sentence and a subsequent tragedy ends up giving our heroine’s father a second chance at becoming a father to his only daughter.

We are only four episodes in, so too early to call on this one yet but My Only One looks to be one of those warm fuzzy sort. This one is on Viki.
All Out Of Love (Chinese Drama, New)

Wallace Chung’s long-awaited romance melo is finally out! I had read through a bit of the book All Out of Love is based on…and I gotta say I am really hoping the show make huge changes to the story because the novel was way too much of a sob feast for my taste. You know the kind that just sucks out your will to live because EVERYTHING is terrible? Fortunately, judging by the show’s synopsis, it’s pretty clear the show will have a happier tone and our hero will get the girl in the end…after all, one can’t cast Wallace Chung then have the heroine NOT fall in love with him, can you?

This one is on Viki.
Age of Legend (Chinese Drama, New)

William Chan’s new police drama where he plays a man who lost his memory of the last eight years after he is rescued from the sea. The only clues to his mysterious past are on his body- a body that is trained to fight, a body that is full of scars and bullet wounds. The show’s first couple episodes are actually all about how our hero spent those eight years so that part is not a mystery to the audience. From the looks of it, our hero will end up becoming the champion of justice but things will of course get dicey when his messy past resurface.

I was both excited for this one to air but also had some reservations since police dramas are usually a miss for me. However, I was completely won over by Age of Legend! While the story is somewhat predictable but Age of Legend manages to remind me of classic Hong Kong police dramas yet retain a modern refreshing feel. It obviously didn’t hurt either that William Chan looks great as our mean fighting machine hero! You can find Age of Legend on Dramafever.
Last Chance (Japanese Drama, New)

Blessed with a seemingly smooth sailing life, our hero’s career suddenly hits a rough patch when the bank he works at is merged with another bank. Feeling trapped after he is transferred to a mindless dead end position, our hero bravely quits his job when he is offered another position by an old classmate…only to have the job fall through because that company is bought out by another. Thanks to his staller work in the past, our hero eventually gets another offer from a CEO of an investment company (played by Ryohei Otani) who wants to revive a failing food franchise company…and figure out what’s fishy behind it.

Quite an impressive cast with lots of familiar faces. J-corporate drama is not really my thing, but this one feels more like a mystery+insiprational drama+ too realistic portrayal of current social issues.
Bungaku Shojo (Japanese Drama)

The unlikely romance between a 26 year old novel editor who has only ever felt the excitement of love via books and a successful writer who despite having the reputation of being a playboy has lost the ability to love.

I was a bit afraid that this one would be all about how a naive girl was seduced by a playboy so I was pleasantly surprised to find that while we have plenty of scenes of sexy seduction there is also plenty character development and emotional depth.
