Smile (Chinese Drama)
An optimistic young woman despite working as a struggling aspiring actress with seemingly no promising prospect in her future, our heroine’s ordinary life suddenly takes a drastic turn when our superstar hero takes a special interest in her. Completely befuddled why a superstar would give her the time of the day, our heroine is clueless that our hero’s interest in her comes from the fact he has a psychological condition that prevents him from touching anyone and for some strange reason, she happens to be the exception.
Lots of new faces in this one but the acting is decent.
Are You Human? (Korean Drama, New)
As a leading authority on brain science and artificial intelligence, Nam Shin’s mother decides to create an android to replace her son when he is forcefully taken away by her father-in-law. Years later, when her human son, a third generation chaebol and the CEO of a large company falls into a coma after being hit by a car, Nam Shin’s mother gets Nam Shin III, the android to pretend to be her son in order to save the company from falling into the evil villain’s hand. Our heroine will end up being Nam Shin III’s bodyguard.
The first two episodes were a bit serious but I was still quite enamored with Are You Human anyway. My big problem? I love our android hero with his bodyguard…but I can’t see how that particular pairing could end well since one of them is obviously…um…not human. Still, Seo Kang Joon looks awesome here so I will probably keep watching despite the fear of my ship sinking. By the way, I have no idea how, but anyone else thinks our android hero actually look more handsome than his human counterpart even though both characters are played by Seo Kang Joon?
Ghost Catcher Zhong Kiu’s Record (Chinese Drama, New)
Yang Rong’s (Memory Lost) new Chinese fantasy with Yang Xuwen (Excellent Investor). Zhong Kiu is a god that specializes in capturing demons in Chinese legend. Tradition has it that Zhong Kiu is a fierce looking older man but in this particular story, our hero is Zhong Kiu’s human form as a troublemaker young man who grew up without any memory of his true identity.
I was interested in this one because I liked both leads and the different take on a familiar Chinese legend seemed intriguing as well but episode one felt very scattered so I am trying to muster up enough enthusiasm to give it another chance.
My Classmate Is Two Hundred Million Years Old (Chinese Drama, New)
As the most popular boy in his school, our hero, Yi Hailan would love nothing more than to shake off the unwanted adoration from one particular girl…Xuan Mo. Confused but glad when one day Xuan Mo suddenly starts to treat him like a total stranger, our hero thought he would be thankful to finally be rid of our heroine…but surprisingly, he begins to find himself paying more and more attention to Xuan Mo until he finally can’t look away anymore. Unbeknownst to our hero, the girl who once held a fervent crush on him is long gone. The “new” Xuan Mo is a female alien general who has been wakened up after slumbering for two hundred million years.
This one is actually quite cute. I was a bit concerned at first since both leads were a bit annoying in the beginning but thankfully, by episode two they were much more endearing once the alien general shows up.
What’s Wrong With Secretary Kim? (Korean Drama, New)
As one who often wonders at the foolishness of those around him and amazed by his own perfection, our hero’s flawless existence is suddenly thrown into chaos when his secretary of nine years declares that she is quitting. Unable to figure out why in the heaven our heroine would give up a perfect boss like him, our hero finds his usual impressive intelligence rather inadequate for the first time in his life when it comes to figuring out the enigma that is his secretary.
This one is hilarious! I was worried that I would find our arrogant hero annoying but fortunately, Park Seo Joon did a great job making his character endearing anyway.

As always, thank you for your drama roundup!!!! You are like my go to person whenever I hit a drama-slump, which is just so frequent lately. Your commentaries are up my alley – “don’t do sinking ships, happily never-after…”
I watch shows to escape and you always have a list waiting for me every single week…
Thanks for the roundups!
I too loved the first 2 episodes of Are You Human? and am hoping that it maintains its flow and not lose itself in the later episodes.
I was also concerned about my ship where one is human and another a programmed robot…but I’ve decided to place my trust in the story teller and just enjoy the show as is!
You found the AI Nam Sin pretty too!
I think it’s because the robot, though knowledgeable about everything including emotions, doesn’t really understand them.
Also till date he hasn’t really interacted with anyone besides his 2 creators and is in reality quite innocent to the ways of the world, because all he has received from them is positivity.
And that’s why this version of Seo Kang Joon comes off as much prettier than his human counterpart who is filled with only negativity since very young.
That’s why he comes off as dark and cynical and more hardened and less pretty than his look-alike AI.
The way the same actor is depicted in such a diverse way that we need no obvious differentiator to tell them apart, is all thanks to the creatives who deserve nothing but praise for taking care of every minute detail.
