Gohan Taisakushitsu/ Misjudgment Countermeasure Office (Japanese Drama, New)
As a veteran detective who was once full of passion for his job, our hero (played by Hiroshi Tachi) now wastes his day away at the Misjudgment Countermeasure Office, waiting for his retirement to come in a year. Unwittingly coming upon some information about a case where an innocent man might’ve been indicted, our hero, along with his two young co-workers decide to do everything they can before the innocent man is executed for a crime he didn’t commit.

I will be honest and admit that I checked this one out completely for the sake of Yuki Furukawa (who plays the role of our hero’s younger co-worker) but the pacing was too slow for my taste so I will be passing on it.
Partners for Justice (Korean Drama, New)
A rookie prosecutor, our heroine finds herself constantly at odds with our hero who is famous for being a crazy but brilliant forensic doctor. Extremely frustrated at our hero at first for his unyielding insistence on sticking with facts, our heroine soon discovers that two of them makes a perfect team when it comes to bringing criminals to justice.

I am liking this one! Our hero is pretty eccentric which I expected, but I found the heroine’s character quite fun and quirky as well.

Lawless Lawyer (Korean Drama, New)
I was pretty excited to check this one out just on the star power of Lee Joon Ki! It was a little surprising to see a much thinner Lee Joon Ki, but he still looks great anyway…especially in the action scenes. Our hero is a lawyer who happens to be a gangster as well. Due to a tragic past of watching his mother (a lawyer) killed right in front of him, our hero grows up with the goal of seeking justice for his mother’s murder. Actress Seo Ye Ji (Save Me, 2017) plays the heroine, also a lawyer but ends up working in our hero’s firm after she was fired for punching a judge out of anger.

This one looks pretty solid all around. My only issue is that the story set up feels rather familiar with all the other lawyer/prosecutor/judge drama we have seen in the past, so I am having a difficult time rustling up interest in the story itself. It does have Lee Joon Ki though…
Secret Mother (Korean Drama, New)
Set in the elite circle where all the rich housewives’ biggest worries are seemingly nothing but getting their kids good grades so they could go to the best school, the arrival of a mysterious tutor becomes the water that is dropped into a pot of boiling oil. Kim So Yeon (Happy Home) plays the mysterious tutor who will sacrifice everything to find her missing sister, while Song Yoon A (The K2) plays the housewife that hires Kim So Yeon’s character and is harboring an overwhelming guilt for her young daughter’s death.

Crime mysteries are usually not my thing but I found myself watching the first four episodes (35 minute long episodes) of Secret Mother in one shot and was craving for more afterward. The show does pack in A LOT right off the bat, to the point everything seems like a hint of something sinister. However, much to my surprise, I walked away from episode 4 feeling intrigued instead of confused and frustrated at the amount of things the writer had thrown at me.
Come And Hug Me (Korean Drama, New)
Another drama about first loves…except this one binds our two leads together not only with their youthful innocent love but also with murder. To make things even more disturbing, our hero’s father is the psychopath killer that murdered our heroine’s mother. Talk about an obstacle to your love.

I was quite impressed with the first episode, the acting and story were solid…but I haven’t made up my mind about following this one yet since it obviously deals with some pretty dark subject. There is one reason I am considering on checking back later though. Despite its dark premise, I think the show at its core is not about the evil demons of our society but instead, it is a story of how two good kids are determined to keep their faith in the world, in themselves and in each other DESPITE the horror they have experienced.
The Way We Were (Chinese Drama, New)
Tiffany Tang and Luo Jin have worked together quite a number of times already, but this is their first drama after they confirmed that they are dating. In fact, I guess Tiffany Tang and Luo Jin had previously said they will not collaborate in another drama together because of their relationship in real life but apparently they both liked the script of The Way We Were so much they decided to join in the cast anyway.

I will be writing a first impression on this one so I will save the synopsis for later.

Hero’s Dream (Chinese Drama, New)
C-web drama is sure getting better and better…when they want to be. Fortunately, Hero’s Dream is one of the impressive ones among the web dramas.

For those of you who remember Let’s Shake It back in 2017, Hero Dream’s vibe is pretty similar to that one, especially since it is also set in historical China with an alien twist. Set in the Qin Dynasty, our hero, thanks to the help of a mysterious being (an alien, whose big boss wants to use our hero to help them get off earth…somehow.), gets the chance to achieve the seemingly impossible feat- get rid of the tyrant Emperor Qin. Our heroine is from the modern time but after getting into an accident she wakes up to find herself in Qin Dynasty and ends up getting pulled into an unavoidable force of fate.

This one is a tad bit more serious than Let’s Shake It and with a bigger budget from the looks of it but there is still plenty of comedy, so I think this one will still be a fun ride.
