Chinese Drama: Excellent Investor (金牌投資人)
Broadcast Date: April 3, 2018
Total Episodes: 40
Leads: Yang Xu Wen and Zhang Li
Character Intro:
Fang Yu Bin
Through talent, hard work and the luck, our hero has been able to blaze a path for himself in the big city of Shanghai where many other young hopefuls have floundered. As the vice-director of a branch of a well known investment firm, Yu Bin is seemingly on the fast track to achieve his dream of becoming the #1 top investor…that is until he meets our heroine and realizes that he is still a small fish in a very big pound, swimming with sharks who are much more clever and ruthless than him. Despite knowing full well that his dreams could be right within his grasp if he is willing to compromise on his principles but our hero is determined to not cross the lines he has set for himself.
Seemingly on the losing end every time he goes up against our heroine, our hero is unfazed when our heroine offers him a bright future if he is willing to come and work for her. Unwilling to leave his boss who has been a mentor to him, our hero loudly professes that he will never regret rejecting our heroine…while his own heart is already slowly but surely betraying him.
Su Jin
Coming back to China with an impressive professional record overseas, Su Jin is the CEO of the newly established investment firm W. Perpetually cool under stress coupled with a brilliant mind for investment, our heroine gleefully schools our hero every time their paths cross. Taking an instant interest in the young man who seems determined to not only survive but excel in the field of investment without resorting to unsavory means, Su Jin makes Yu Bin an offer to come work for her. Even more intrigued when our hero rejects her offers without a moment of hesitation, Su Jin finds herself more and more drawn to Yu Bin.
The daughter of a wealthy father, Su Jin has a very complex relationship with her father whom she loves but also resents because of her mother’s death. After divorcing Su Jin’s mother, Daddy Su remarries his first wife who hates Su Jin vehemently and encourages his son (so heroine’s older half brother) to treat Su Jin like an enemy. Thanks to growing up in such an animosity filled family, Su Jin has long learned to mask her feelings and throw away her tenderness…until our hero shows up in her life.
Ninja’s first…or more like half-way impression:
This one has been such a pleasant surprise. I had assumed Excellent Investor would be just another draggy C-drama about business intrigue mix in with some boring romance but this one has been anything but boring! Granted, the story does have plenty of stereotypes one would find in your usual C-city drama, yet, the writer has done a great job in keeping the story interesting.
My favorite thing about this drama is hands down the slow but oh, so heart thumping romance between our two leads. The pacing on the romance development is on the slow side BUT the tension…the romantic tension is perhaps one of the best I have seen in C-drama! Which is why I don’t mind the slow pacing one bit.
In a way, we could call this one a noona romance but it really doesn’t feel like one at all. The status difference between our two leads is quite big which is why for the longest time our hero could ignore the obvious attraction he has towards our heroine since she is someone he wants to surpass eventually…so she is more like a teacher/mentor/ big boss/ rival.
It of course doesn’t help that our hero brings out our heroine’s hidden childish side, so anytime he feels a prick of attraction it is quickly replaced with frustration at her latest prank. By the way, the whole childish feud between our leads is another thing I love about the show. Among the business intrigues (which I am liking for once) where our two leads have to be so sophisticated, cool…and, well, grown up, it is then hilarious to see our leads act like bickering kids the moment they are alone.
There are lots of good shows out right now, but Excellent Investor still manages to stay on top of my list thanks to the fun and super sexy chemistry between our leads.

nice
Thank you for this first impression! However, it seems that this drama doesn’t have any English subs for the moment?
Unfortunately, that seems like the case for now.
