Kareshi wo Ron de Kaimashita (I Bought a Boyfriend with Loan literal title. Japanese Drama, New)
Determined to catch herself a professional elite so she can live out her dream of becoming an elegant housewife, our heroine is willing to pay the price of suppressing her true personality and act as the ever obedient kitten in front of her boyfriend. Convinced by her sempai (senior or sunbae) who accomplished exactly what she is trying to achieve… then gave it all up, that she must relieve her “pressure” or else she won’t be able to keep her kitten personality forever, our heroine decides to buy herself a boyfriend.
Obviously not your typical “sweet innocent” sort romance but kinda of an interesting premise…in a twisted way.
Love Rerun (Japanese Drama, New)
As a 30 year old single woman who had spent her last 15 years harboring a secret crush on her childhood friend, our heroine, Sayaka is excited and nervous with her plan to finally confess on her birthday. Utterly confused when she wakes up the next morning to find herself in clothes she would’ve never worn in a million years, Sayaka gets the shock of her life when a man (NOT her crush) walks in and informs her that they are living together. Unable to figure out how she has somehow lost all memories of the last three months, Sayaka must try to piece together how she ended up shedding her nerdy conservative style overnight, got herself a boyfriend…then broke up with him in two months (Our heroine is still living with her boyfriend but she is supposed to move up ASAP).
I was pretty excited to see Yuki Furukawa in this one! Ryohei Otani is of course very easy on the eyes as well… Cough, back to the show. Episode one was very intriguing so I am looking forward to seeing how this one will go. I am really hoping for a sweet J-romance…which is not likely to happen but I am hoping anyway.
The Confidence Man (Japanese Drama, New)
As a team of two conmen and one conwoman, our protagonists carry out hilarious yet elaborate cons against rich evil doers of the society.
This one is pretty light and fun so check it out if you are in the mood for some Robin Hood type story.
Half Blue (Japanese Drama, New)
A story about our heroine who despite losing half of her hearing when she was in elementary school, always manages to see the bright side of things even when life gets difficult.
This one is 156 episodes long BUT the episodes are only 15 minutes in length so a fairly fast watch. The show has a light and comical tone to it but cozy at the same time.
Signal (Japanese Drama, New)
This one is J-remake of the Korean 2016 supernatural crime thriller of the same name, Signal where our hero was able to use an old walkie-talkie to communicate with a detective from the past and tries to solve a serial murder together. Haven’t had time to check this one out yet, but from the synopsis, it sounds like the remake will follow the original pretty closely.
Women In Beijing (Chinese Drama, New)
Stephy Qi’s new C-city drama that follows our heroine’s journey from a little rural town o the big city of Beijing as she tries to chase her dream of carving out a different life for herself. This one is a coming of age story so expect lots of obstacles in our heroine’s path as she tries to survive the harsh corporate world, find out the meaning of friendship, and of course the heartbreaks of dating a few frogs along the way of trying to find “THE” one.
