Fight For Love (Chinese Drama, New)
The new C-web drama with a hilarious premise. On the day he is about to confess to his childhood friend, our hero is intercepted first by one of his admirers. Full of resentment after being rejected, the furious girl puts a curse on our heroine (hero’s childhood friend) so that everytime our hero wants to confess his feelings something unfortunate would happen. After saving our heroine from the various disasters whenever he tries to confess, our hero decides to delay his big moment…but what happens when our heroine falls in love with someone else before he could get rid of the curse?

The story is pretty silly but the comedy is quite good especially for a web drama.
Wonderful Life (Chinese Drama, New)
A C-city romance about our hero who gets a second chance after getting a heart transplant at the lowest point of his life. Meeting our hero through a marriage meet, our heroine starts to fall for our hero who reminds her of her dead husband but can she really trust this feeling?

This one looks pretty messy with two other female secondary leads scheduled to show up later to compete with our heroine for our hero’s affection. Plus… the show’s synopsis mentions something about our hero’s heart problem coming back later so I am staying away from this one for sure.

The New Smiling, Proud Wanderer (Chinese Drama, New)
The newest take on this beloved classic by Hong Kong author Louis Cha. For staunch fans of the novel, this newest version is probably a blaspheme but then again, after the 2013 version with Wallace Huo I guess anything and everything goes. (In the 2013 version, the scary villain of the story was played by Joe Chen, whose character ended up having a romance line with the hero (definitely NOT part of the original story) and pretty much stole the show.)

Unlike the usual remakes of Smiling, Proud Wanderer with big names as leads, this newest version has chosen to use new faces which also meant a much smaller production budget. The acting from the young cast was a bit shaky in the beginning but improved as the show progressed. The biggest reason to check this one out is for the creative license the show has taken with the classic. This version is like Smiling, Proud Wanderer on steroid. The show has kept most of the original characters and plot lines but then scrambled them all up so it is almost like a puzzle trying to figure out what the scriptwriter did. If you are like me who is a fan of the story but is kinda intrigued by a different retelling of the classic then this one should be fun since it gives the viewer plenty of opportunities to constantly test your knowledge of the story.

The Flame’s Daughter (Chinese Drama, New)
Dilraba Dilmurat and Vic Chou’s long awaited fantasy Wuxia drama is finally out! I only had time to check out the first episode and thus far I am cautiously hopeful. I wasn’t too sure at first how I felt about Vic Chou being cast as the mysterious and ethereal hero but after watching the first episode, I am cautiously assured as well. Zhang Bin Bin (who actually was the lead with Dilraba Dilmurat in their last drama, King’s Woman) plays our heroine’s first love who ends up hurting our heroine badly when he believes the big villain’s lies and allows himself to be consumed by the desire for revenge. There are some people that have referred to this one as Eternal Love 2 because 1. To start off, other than Vic Chou, there are quite a few familiar faces from Eternal Love. 2. The story does contain fantasy elements such as past lives. 3. The hero remembers our heroine and has been patiently waiting for her but she of course has no memory of him. 4. Poor Zhang Bin Bin gets to play the “mistake” that our heroine had before she met our hero…again. Despite a few small similarities though, don’t go into The Flame’s Daughter expecting Eternal Love because they really are completely different stories. Eternal Love was built around fantasy (with heavenly emperors and gods) while The Flame’s Daughter is more closer to a good old fashion Wuxia with some fantasy elements.
Mysterious Personal Shopper (Korean Drama, New)
The new K-daily about our heroine who embarks on a path of revenge after being betrayed by the one she trusted the most. I only had time to check out the first few episodes and was surprised by how compelling the mystery is right from the start. This one is not your usual revenge story about a heroine who is betrayed by her lover but rather our heroine is betrayed by her own mother who seems to be living a double life. Episode one’s opening scene is our heroine being hauled away to the mental hospital while the loving mother she trusted and loved just stood by with cold expressionless eyes.
Four Types of Houses (Korean Drama, New)
Ladies’ Code’s Zuny and F.T. Island’s Jaejin are starring as leads in MBC’s drama that tells the story of four young people who learn about themselves and each other as they live in a sharehouse. Jaejin plays a bad temper ex-idol who rents his house as a sharehouse. Zuny plays our heroine who disguises herself as a boy in order to stay in our hero’s house. I had no clue what to expect going into this one but was pleasantly surprised to find episode one quite solid.
Queen Of Mystery 2 (Korean Drama, New)
Choi Kang Hee and Kwon Sang Woo are back as the crime fighting duo. Choi Kang Hee is the housewife who gets to realize her dream of being a crime detective thanks to our hero (Kwon Sang Woo) who likes to let his fist do the talking and is pleasantly surprised to discover our heroine’s sharp skill in solving difficult crimes.

I didn’t follow the first season but I am a bit curious about how they will do season two so I will probably check in on the first episode soon. On a side note, this just makes me more wistful for a season two for Stranger (Jo Seung-woo and Bae Doona, also a crime drama) but I am not holding my breath for that one…even though the ending DID left plenty of room for a season 2.
