Bye Bye Blackbird (Japanese Drama, New)
Resigned that he will be forced to board a mysterious bus in two weeks for an unknown destination where he will spend the rest of his life, our hero asks his handler (played by Yuu Shirota who is playing a woman…a very big woman since Yuu Shirota is 188 cm tall) for a chance to say goodbye to his 5 girlfriends. Yap, that’s right, our hero was dating five women at the same time. Unable to reveal anything about his upcoming “trip” to the 5 women, our hero presents his impressive looking handler as his fiancée and embarks on a journey of saying goodbye.

This one is actually pretty interesting. On the surface, it is easy to write Bye Bye Blackbird off as a story about our no good cheating hero saying goodbye to his conquests before getting his punishment, but by the end of episode one it is obvious that there are plenty of mysteries going on including the big question of why would a seemingly truly decent guy such as our hero cheat on five women?
Shall We Kiss First? (Korean Drama, New)
Penned by the scriptwriter of I Have A Lover (K-family drama, 2015 starring Ji Jin Hee), Shall We Kiss First? tells the unexpected romance between people who no longer believe in its existence. This one has an impressive cast lineup. Kim Sun A (The Lady In Dignity) and Kam Woo Sung (The Spring Day of My Life) are the two leads but there are also tons of other familiar faces.

Due to the rather melo looking promo posters, I went in this one expecting it to be rather serious but much to my surprise Shall We Kiss First is actually a very funny show. I guess I really should’ve expected some comedy since we do have Kim Sun A after all. Since Shall We Kiss First focuses on “mature” romances of those that have been hurt in the past, the story is filled with scenes that raise thoughtful questions and reflections of what happens when one is too fearful to trust again after the youthful love you once thought would last forever turns into a gaping sore on your heart. I thought the first two episodes were pretty promising so I am planning to follow this one for now.

The Legend of Dugu (Chinese Drama, New)
This one is a 50 episode historical drama loosely based on the life of Empress Wenxian. Thanks to a prophecy, all three sisters of the powerful Dugu family grows up knowing that one of them is destined for greatness…even to the point of being a kingmaker. Ady Au plays the extremely smart eldest daughter who believes herself to be the chosen one and is determined to fulfill her destiny. (Ady Au’s character is actually quite interesting because while her character is VERY ambitious but she also loves her family dearly and puts her family above everything else. This is a very strong and intriguing character that might overshadow the heroine’s character at first but I think once the leads’ romance kicks in it should help to focus the heroine character more.) The second sister doesn’t have the brains of her older sister but has plenty of greed. The youngest daughter of Dugu family is our heroine, played by Hu Bing Qing (who is also the lead in Beauties in Closet) who IS the chosen one and will have a great romance with her husband the Emperor of Sui Dynasty.
