My other post must’ve gotten way too long because every time I tried to finish it, the site crashes so that’s why I am putting the ending in a new post. Anyway, here is the ending FINALLY!!!

Waking up in the middle of the night, a still half asleep Chu Qiao intuitively reached out her arm towards the spot next to her. Sitting up with a start to see the room completely empty, Chu Qiao tried to suppress the sudden unease as she jumped off the bed in one swift move…only to feel her legs buckling under her, the dull pain and discomfort of her body reminding her that after this night, everything has changed.
Hearing Chu Qiao’s hurried footsteps as she comes near, Wen Yue, who had been standing at the ship’s bow for quite a while turns around and bids “Come.”
Running over to hold her little umbrella over Wen Yue, Chu Qiao frowned and chided “Did you not notice it is raining?”
Surprised when When Yue all the sudden pulled her into his arms and then just silently holds her without saying anything for a long moment, Chu Qiao asked carefully “Yu Wen Yue? What’s wrong?”
“Nothing.” Wen Yue’s voice was calm but of course it has always been an impossible task to try to read Wen Yue’s emotions through his perpetually calm expression. Puzzled when Wen Yue unexpectedly said “Xing Er, I will make it up to you.” Chu Qiao frowns and askid “What are you talking about?” Giving Chu Qiao a smile and a gentle pat on her face, Wen Yue doesn’t bother to explain himself but instead promises “What I owe you I will for sure make it up to you in the future.”

He has always believed himself to be a better man than Yan Xun. He believed he was the only one that could give Chu Qiao true happiness. But when it comes to “this”, he could not compete with that man. Ten whole years they spent together but Yan Xun was a true gentleman. But him? He was selfish. But so what? When it comes to her, he is always filled with doubt and uncertainty, always feeling like he is standing on a sheet of thin ice. The closer to happiness he got, the more scared he became. Selfishly he wanted more and more, and more. Sometimes he would scoff at himself “Yu Wen Yue, did you ever imagine you would be like this?” But of course his self jeering just fueled his uncertainty. He had always been a person who never cared too deeply about anything. Power, lands, nations, and wealth were all a big gamble to him but her…she was the only thing he could never let go of.

Still nestling in his embrace and seemingly attempting to comfort him, Chu Qiao muttered “It’s not a big thing. Plus…it was not like I wasn’t willing….”

Letting out a yelp when Wen Yue picks her up without warning and starts marching towards the bedroom, Chu complains in a low voice “Let me down! We can’t let Mei Xiang and the other see!” Ignoring Chu Qiao’s protests, Wen Yue orders “Hush!” Her temper rising, Chu Qiao retorts “I won’t!” Not bothering to argue with the woman in his arms, Wen Yue gives Chu Qiao a lopsided smile before swooping down to capture her lips for a long kiss until Chu Qiao is weak and breathless. Quite pleased with himself, Wen Yue declares with a taunting amusement in his voice “I have plenty of ways to make you stay quiet.” Promptly covering her mouth with both hands Chu Qiao could only express her indignation through her big eyes.

Jumping out of Wen Yue’s arms the moment they arrived at her room, Chu Qiao immediately fell into a defensive stance while keeping a careful eye on him. Her face turned red with embarrassment when Wen Yue just nonchalantly took off his robe and whispered into her ear “Does it still hurt?” Feeling her own face burning even hotter if that was possible, Chu Qiao wondered why she could command thousands on the battlefields but when it came to things such as this, she was like an innocent lass who had never stepped outside of her room.

Completely flustered as Wen Yue wrapped his arms around her and asked “Eh? I asked you a question. Does it still hurt?”, Chu Qiao promptly grabbed the mischievous hand that was inching downward and shook her head furiously like a frightened rabbit. With a low laugh, Wen Yue asked suggestively “It really doesn’t hurt anymore?” Pleased when Chu Qiao quickly nodded, Wen Yue replied “Let’s continue then.”

Bursting out in a hearty laugh when he saw Chu Qiao’s shocked expression, Wen Yue picked her up in one smooth move and laid her down on the bed. Dazed as she stared at the handsome face in front of her, Chu Qiao for the life of her couldn’t figure out how is it that none of her fighting skills and nimble moves were of any use when it came to him. Overtaken by a numbing tingling sensation as Wen Yue’s initial soft kiss turns into a passionate one, Chu Qiao finds herself leaning weakly against Wen Yue while all her clothes have disappeared somehow, leaving her with only her undergarments. Bewildered when Wen Yue suddenly wrapped her tightly with a blanket and commanded in a deep throaty voice “Okay, sleep now.” Chu Qiao instinctively wonders “Sleep?”

Amused, Wen Yue stared at her and asked “Why? You don’t want to sleep?”

“I do!” Answering loudly, Chu Qiao swiftly yawned to make herself more convincing.

Laying down with his arms still around Chu Qiao, Wen Yue closed his eyes, ready to settle down since he knew full well that Chu Qiao’s body needed time to recover…. even if he almost lost control just now. Despite his good intentions, Wen Yue frowns when the woman in his arms starts to wiggle like an unruly puppy, making his already frayed self-control evaporating. Frustrated, Wen Yue demanded “What are you doing?’

“You…are you not going back to your own room?”
Raising her head, Chu Qiao pleaded pitifully “What if Mei Xiang and the others see us tomorrow? Ping An and Jing Jing are just kids.”
His brows still in a frown, Wen Yue replied “They are still kids? Have you forgotten that at their age, you almost had your way with me in the town of Wu Peng?!”
Feeling the great need to protect her good name, our heroine protested vehemently “I did no such thing! You are making things up!”
Huffy, Wen Yue demanded “No such thing? You didn’t pretend to be the concubine that was gifted to me by the government officials? You didn’t wander around in my room, scantily clad trying to take advantage of me?”
“Yu Wen Yue! You!”
“If you are any louder, then everyone wouldn’t have to wait until tomorrow to find out.”

Lowering her voice immediately, Chu Qiao says through gritted teeth “I was trying to rescue someone back then. How was supposed to know it was you. You know all this so don’t try to feign ignorance.”
With an expression that said “I knew you were going to use that as your excuse!” Wen Yue showed his displeasure by grunting “Humph!”
Giving Wen Yue a push when it looks like he will just go back to sleep, Chu Qiao says “Hey! Go back to your room! This bed is too small.”
The bed is too small? On a bed that could fit four people comfortably? Seeing no need to grace such an outright lie with a response, Wen Yue continued to keep his eyes closed.
“Hey! Go back to your own room. Why are you insisting on staying?”
Frustrated, Chu Qiao sat up and was about to march off with her clothes in hand but just before she was about to make it off the bed, Wen Yue suddenly grabbed her so she ended up landing right on top of him. With a smoldering fire peaking through his narrowing eyes, Wen Yue asked coldly “You seem to have plenty of energy. I guess you don’t want to sleep anymore?”
“Nope! No such thing!”
Feeling the paralyzing tingling sensation as the man whispers “Xing Er, I want to spend every night with my arms around you like this. Don’t always be trying to chase me away.” Chu Qiao’s heart promptly melts into a muddle. Her heart pricked by seeing someone so proud as Wen Yue saying such things, Chu Qiao pulled up Wen Yue’s hand to her lips for a kiss. Yu Wen Yue, you are mine. You are my sunshine that I can never be without.

The next morning Chu Qiao woke up with a start to find Wen Yue completely dressed, holding out a blue dress towards her as he says “Mei Xiang came a few times already. If you don’t get up soon, I think she will break down the door.”
Quickly pulling on her clothes, Chu Qiao shuffled to the door and opened it just slightly “Um, ha ha…good morning, Mei Xiang!”
Standing quite majestically with her hands on her hips, Mei Xiang warns “Miss, it’s almost noon. We will be docking in a bit.”
“Ah? Is that right? I have been so tired lately that must be why I slept in. Such a weird thing.”
Giggling, Xing Xing who is holding the baby in her arms pipes up “Yes, it is really strange…”
Puzzled that Chu Qiao had not moved to let her in, Mei Xiang asked “Miss, why are you standing here like this? I have your basin of water here. Aren’t you going to wash up?”
Grabbing the basin of water from Mei Xiang, Chu Qiao declared “I will do it myself!”
Replying with a frown, Mei Xiang asks “Miss, what’s wrong?”
Waving Mei Xiang’s question away, Chu Qiao explained “I am great. I just think you are tired too and need a rest.”
Not about to slack off on her duty, Mei Xiang offered “Let me tidy up your room then.”
“No need! I have lots of energy right now so I can tidy up myself” Without waiting for Mei Xiang to say anything more, Chu Qiao closed the door and pressed her ear up against it.
Amused to see Chu Qiao’s long sigh of relief once she confirmed Mei Xiang was gone Wen Yue laughed “Look at you, you are like a thief.”
Giving Wen Yue a glare, Chu Qiao pulled on his arms and said “Go back to your own room while the hallway is empty.”
Rejecting Chu Qiao’s request right away, Wen Yue insisted “Nope, I won’t go unless you help me wash up.”
Severely disappointed, Chu Qiao demanded “Why?!”

“I won’t leave unless you do it.”
“Yu Wen Yue! You…” Resigned after a long moment of huffing and puffing, Chu Qiao finally walked over to the basin, wrung out the towel, and walked over to Wen Yue in a manner that looked like she was about to get into a brawl.
Leaning down, Chu Qiao fiercely rubbed the towel on Wen Yue’s face. Her heart softened when after a slight frown of discomfort, Wen Yue just looked up at her with a beaming smile, Chu Qiao softened her movement considerably.
With the sunlight shining through the window, Chu Qiao felt like they had been transported back to 10 years ago. Back to the time when she was still in the Yu manor, having to wake up early every day to help him wash up, dress him, and attend to him while he ate.
Pouting, Chu Qiao says dejectedly “See! After everything I have done, I am back to my old job.”
Giving Chu Qiao a sly smile, Wen Yue agrees “They say that justice always wins out in the end. You were born to be mine, so you could never escape.”
None too pleased, Chu Qiao complained “What kind of bad analogy is that!”
Dragging Wen Yue by the arm to the door, Chu Qiao urged “Go! Go quickly.”
Turning his head around to glare at Chu Qiao, Wen Yue grumbled “Mean girl!”
Ignoring Wen Yue, Chu Qiao continued to push him towards the door “Go! Go quickly!”
“Master!”
Scared out of wits by the sudden chipper call, Chu Qiao turned around to find Yue 7 standing outside of the window. Waving his arm as a greeting at Chu Qiao, the ever-so-helpful Yue 7 explained “I went to the master’s bedroom this morning and found it empty so I figured he must have slept at Miss’ place.”
Her face flushed bright red, Chu Qiao belatedly noticed that there seemed to be quite a crowd standing behind Yue7. Chu Qiao could even hear a happy voice declaring “We finally married off older sister! We don’t have to listen to her nagging from now on!”

I am going to end my translation here even though the story still has several more chapters to go. In fact, our two leads will together and separately have to face several big battles before they get their happy ending. Here is a summary of the rest of the story:

  • Chu Qiao goes back to Da Xia with Wen Yue. While Chu Qiao is preparing for her wedding, Wen Yue is sent away on the battlefield. On the day of the wedding, Chu Qiao is taken as a prisoner by Wen Yue’s older brother with the threat if Chu Qiao comes quietly then maybe he would consider not killing Wen Yue who apparently has just walked into a trap set up by his own family. Quite proud of himself when Chu Qiao meekly agrees to his demand, Wen Yue’s brother dies with shock still in his eyes when Chu Qiao skillfully kills his four guards before finishing him off. While our heroine proves herself to be no damsel needing to be rescued, our hero also proves himself as he escapes the trap unscathed to come to Chu Qiao’s side.
  • The emperor of Da Xia finally dies and things quickly go from bad to worse. Da Xia goes through a bloody civil war as the country is torn apart by the bitter fight for the throne. While Da Xia is busy fighting among themselves, Yan Xun jumps on the perfect opportunity by sacking Bian Tang (Xiao Ce’s country) and heading straight for Da Xia. (So this was a brilliant move because even amongst all the fighting among themselves, those fighting for the throne knew they couldn’t touch the army guarding the borders against Yan Bei. Little did they know, that instead of attacking Da Xia directly, Yan Xun decided to attack Bian Tang first so he would then have a straight path to Da Xia.)
  • The situation is dire on all sides, our hero has no choice but to stay with Da Xia but our heroine also sees no choice but to go and save Xiao Ce’s country. After trying hard to convince Chu Qiao to stay despite knowing full well what she will choose in the end, our resigned hero finally sends off the woman he loves after exacting a promise from her that she will come back to him safely.

Frowning as he watched Wen Yue send Chu Qiao and her army off, Yue7 asked “Master, are you just going to let Miss go off like this? Bai Tang is too dangerous right now so why aren’t you stopping her?”
With a small laugh, Wen Yue replied “If she doesn’t go, will she still be Chu Qiao?” Watching the army riding further and further away, Wen Yue silently added “Isn’t this exactly why I fell in love with her? So how can I trap and break her wings after she is finally mine?”

  • Things don’t go well at all for Chu Qiao at Bai Tang. Greatly outnumbered, Chu Qiao knew that it was almost impossible that she would be able to keep her promise to Wen Yue. Much to her joy and dismay, Chu Qiao also finds out at this point that she is pregnant. By the way, it is important to point out that the army that is attacking Chu Qiao is of course led by Yan Xun. For what it is worth, Yan Xun had silently hoped that he would not see Chu Qiao on the battlefield, but he wasn’t about to call off his army even knowing that his action would mean Chu Qiao’s death. I really doubt that he could kill Chu Qiao with his own hands but he had never had too much trouble with the knowledge that his action could very well lead to her death.

  • Things are going MUCH better for our hero at Da Xia. In fact, things are going so well that Wen Yue’s father is elated by the thought that if his son just pushed forward then Wen Yue would become the new emperor. With the nation of Da Xia open to his taking at will, Wen Yue resolutely declares “Father, I can’t do it. A person’s hand is only so big. I can’t hold everything. Without me, Da Xia will have other generals. Without me, father still has other sons. But without me, Xing Er would have no hope. Father, take care.”
  • Standing on the city gate overlooking the vast enemy army that will certainly demolish her brave band of men, Chu Qiao looks up at the sky and whispers “I love you.” But…I can’t be by your side anymore. Xiao Ce, I tried my best. Yu Wen Yue, goodbye.
  • Fighting valiantly while still instinctively protecting the baby in her womb, Chu Qiao only hope is that she could last a little longer so that He Xiao would have as much time as possible to escape with the young emperor (Xiao Ce’s son).

  • “General! We have reinforcement!” Dazed as excited yells reach her, Chu Qiao runs up to the city wall to see out into the horizon a wave of soldiers joining in the fight like wolves charging forward. “It’s the Qinghai army!” Running up to Chu Qiao, a soldier covered in blood exclaims “General! We are saved! Bian Tang is saved!” Rooted to the spot, Chu Qiao is silent as tears start to fall.
  • “My emperor, it’s time to leave.”
Giving his man a nod, Yan Xun doesn’t move but continues to look out into the smoke-filled horizon with an unreadable expression. He came after all. Maybe unconsciously, he still hoped that she would be able to stay alive. But neither did he want him to come. Love or power…it has always been a difficult choice. The thing he can’t let go of is something someone else already abandoned.

Staring at Wen Yue who jumped off his horseback with his green robe so stained with blood that it appeared black, Chu Qiao asks “Why did you come?”
“To come and reclaim what’s mine.”
Trying hard to hold back the tears, Chu Qiao steps forward, playful punches Wen Yue, and mutters “Fool.”
Pulling Chu Qiao into his arms, Wen Yue laughs “Xing Er, Come back to Qinghai with me.”
Unable to hold back anymore, Chu Qiao’s tears soak through Wen Yue’s shirt. Rising up on her toes, Chu Qiao whispers joyfully into Wen Yue’s ear “Yu Wen Yue, I am pregnant.”

The End
