Looking over at her slightly disordered hair, and the slight dampness by her brows, Feng Zhi Wei, as one who had read all the books including the complete collection on the pleasures between men and women, could immediately tell that Shao Ning had just lost her virginity.

Lost her virginity, in her room, on her bed!

Feng Zhi Wei stood there stunned as if she has been struck by lightning, knowing that her opponent’s next attack has arrived without giving her any time to breathe.

Shao Ning likes Wei Zhi, that is a fact the whole Tiansheng court, including the emperor, is aware of. Now that Shao Ning is lying on her bed with her virginity gone, everyone would assume that Wei Zhi had a secret rendezvous with Shang Ning and they simply got carried away with passion. With Shao Ning’s temperament, she is bound to insist on marrying Wei Zhi. What’s done is done, so out of deference to save the imperial face, the emperor will certainly have the two of them marry. As the princess’s husband, Wei Zhi can no longer involve himself in governing matters so just like that, Wei Zhi is out. (Being a princess’s husband is a double edge sword since the marriage will obviously bring prestige and wealth but it also meant the husband is now barred from involving himself with the court– thus be stripped from any official government position. Therefore, it creates an awkward situation where everyone is polite and respectful to the husband because he is married to a princess, but he is also not so secretly looked down upon by all since he is now destined to spend the rest of his life just escorting his princess wife to parties. I have no idea if this is actually historically correct at all but authors and scriptwriters will often use it in C-historical fiction.)

As for Ning Yi who is in charge of guarding the palace tonight, the emperor will be furious over the matter and will certainly punish him.

It truly is a plan that kills two birds with one stone.

Feng Zhi Wei stood about three feet away from the bed. Silent and motionless, her palm instantly covered with sweat, regretting bitterly over the fact she had left tonight and had given others the chance to not only frame her but Ning Yi as well. However, she is also keenly aware that she is without much support in court right now and her opponent came well-prepared. They knew she would be worried about Gu Nan Yi and would go check on him personally sooner or later so they made plans accordingly.

This plan sounded easy but it was actually difficult to implement. They had to be familiar with how Shao Ning thinks, be familiar with the placement of the palace guards, figure out a way for Shao Ning to go against palace rules to come to visit her, and they also need to find someone to replace Wei Zhi. All this took exact timing. Any delay would have led to failure.

Originally, she would not have lingered at Gu Nan Yi’s place for too long but Concubine Qing’s unexpected appearance attracted both her and Ning Yi’s attention. Was this planned or just a coincidence? If Concubine Qing had colluded with others to draw them away, then she and Ning Yi’s situation had just become more dangerous.

Tonight, because of Concubine Qing’s appearance and her subsequent chase, Ning Yi had moved away the guards at her place. The missing guards gave others the loophole they needed and will become yet another thing Ning Yi can’t explain.

The incident came too quickly and the result was irreversible. Seeing the silk sheets on the bed dotted with red spots and a naked princess refusing to get out of it, even Feng Zhi Wei who is extremely skilled at coming up with a plan in crisis can only stare at the scene blankly, her mind filled with the thought that her last two years of painstaking efforts are likely to be completely ruined after tonight.

On the bed, Shao Ning saw Wei Zhi standing there unmoving and assumed he was still in a daze from admiring her. Feeling a bit shy, Shao Ning lowered her head and “accidentally” let the sheet slip a little lower.

Tonight, she had originally just wanted to the advantage of the rare opportunity of being able to meet Wei Zhi in the palace. All she had planned on was just to see him, tell him her sincere feelings, and see if she might be able to chip a dent into that person’s iron-hard heart. Who knew she would be able to come straight in without meeting any guards, and the whole place would be in darkness, with a pleasant but intoxicating fragrance?

Afraid of alerting others and not wanting to disturb her love’s recovery rest as well, she sat down by the bed thinking it would be good to just see his sleeping face. But who would’ve expected just as she sat down with a heart full of tenderness, Wei Zhi who had his back to her immediately reached out and pulled her down…. Feeling shy, joyful, and a bit scared, she wanted to pull away but then discovered that her body had no strength in it at all. With a vague thought that this is a good opportunity to force her father to agree to this marriage, the already spoiled brazen Shao Ning decides to toss caution to the wind and after some half-hearted rejections let things progress as they will. In the swirl of time that followed, Shao Ning could only tell that her lover seemed to be in somewhat of a rush and a little anxious as he went straight for the goal and finished just as quickly. Pain was the only thing she felt without any of the supposed pleasure. Not daring to be too audacious, she covered her face the whole time…once the initial shyness was gone, she went to turn her lover’s face around so they could pour out their hearts to one another. Yet that person hurriedly said that he needed to go relieve himself and didn’t come back for a long while.

Now that he is standing there without saying a word, a sheepish annoyance crept into the shy happiness Shao Ning was feeling as she whispered, “Look at you…why are standing there like a fool? You were in such a rush before…”

Her voice trailed off at the end and was almost inaudible.

A glint flashed across Feng Zhi Wei’s eyes. Just now, she was pondering if she should just reveal the fact she is a woman to Shao Ning. Nothing can prove her innocence better than this, yet she knew she can’t in the next moment. Shao Ning has never been the sort to take things lying down, once she found out that she has been cheated and raped, her fury and despair will lead her to do something catastrophic, then none of them will be able to bear the consequences.

Also, she needs to find a way to notify Ning Yi of this and quickly find out the suspicious persons who entered and existed from here tonight. They have to find the bastard who bedded the princess and framed her for it. They will also need to come up with a plan together of how they will deal with what’s to come.

In the distance, sounds of drum beats came, heavy and suffocating, breaking the silence of the night.

The sound is deep and hurried.

It is the fourth watch now.

If her guess is right, since the other party had made the move, then it must be a chain of attacks, someone should be arriving soon to “discover” her and the princess’ “little tryst” and blow the whole thing up.

She must appease Shao Ning immediately.

“Princess.” Her mind made up, Feng Zhi Wei took a deep breath, held down her raging anger, stepped forward with a smile, sat down beside her, and said softly, “I’m sorry, I had a bit of a stomach ache. I kept you waiting for too long.”

While speaking softly and tenderly, she gathered up the scattered clothing by the bedside to start helping her to dress. She spoke slowly but her movement was very brisk.

Shao Ning listened to her lover’s rare sweet words, enjoying being tended to personally by her lover, allowing Feng Zhi Wei to do whatever she wanted with her, and muttered, “Why did you have a stomach ache? Let me feel…” She reached out a hand to touch Feng Zhi Wei’s stomach.

Feng Zhi Wei moved away slightly and said with a smile, “Your hands are cold.” Letting Feng Zhi Wei put her inner robe on, Shao Ning laughed, “Xiao Zhi, you are skilled with women’s clothes. Do you often help in such matters?” The last sentence was drawn out, already laced with jealousy.

Feng Zhi Wei was appalled to hear herself being called “Xiao Zhi”, and thought inwardly, women are sure the sort that are quick to give themselves permission where none had been given and the most prone to jealousy. Remaining silent, Feng Zhi Wei smiled and continues to dress Shao Ning quickly. Shao Ning sighs, “Someone like you, it is natural that you have someone. Even me…but from now on, you can’t be improper anymore.” (Adding the Chinese word “Xiao” for small to a person’s last name is a sign of friendship/intimacy (not really for a romantic relationship though so not sure why the author chose to go with that) but it’s not really something you can just assume you can do without permission. Of course one can’t exactly blame Shao Ning here since she probably thought they are plenty close after what just happened.)

Improper? Can I be more improper than you? Feng Zhi Wei smiled wryly inside but still said obediently, “Yes.” She lifted Shao Ning’s feet to help her put on socks but Shao Ning suddenly pulled her feet back and stared at her, “Why are you dressing me so quickly?”

Feng Zhi Wei let go, frowned, and smiled, “Princess, what else do you want to do if you don’t want to dress quickly? I would love to go for three hundred more rounds in bed but do you think that’s suitable?”

Shao Ning’s answer almost caused Feng Zhi Wei to choke.

“What’s not suitable about that?” She raised her eyebrows high, “We have already done the deed anyway, so we might as well let my father know that I can only marry you in this life, and no one else!”

“Fine.” Feng Zhi Wei stood up, and threw Shao Ning’s skirt on her, “Then Princess you go ahead, just lay on my bed. Tomorrow after I am dragged out to the Meridian Gate to have my head chopped off, then you can go marry my head!”
