Seeing the demons dying trying desperately to stop her despite knowing it was useless, Su Su had compassion in her heart.

Ancient demons were born in a barbaric land while the gods were born in the divine realm of abundant spiritual energy. In the present world, demons have been trapped in the barren abyss for ten thousand years even as the cultivators are being worshipped by the mortals with incense.

Nothing can grow in the demonic realm so the demons wanted this beautiful world as their own, free to roam at will.

But even if all they wanted was to survive, it should not be done through killing and destruction.

Su Su did not turn back but took the demonic weapons (I am assuming they are Tantai Jin’s?) and flew straight into the World of Despair. She can see the endless darkness but this time, her heart felt calm.

However, when she approached the World of Despair, a bright light from within it pushed Su Su out.

Sensing something, the phoenix transformed back into her red-clothed goddess form and stared at the scene before her.

In a daze, the demons looked and exclaimed “The Demon God!”

“It’s the power of the Demon God!”

“The World of Despair” was completely opened. The death of Tantai Jin did not prevent its opening.

However, this World of Despair was completely different than what everyone thought it would be.

A vast amount of immortal and demonic energy poured out, flowing into the mountains and the earth.

Like pouring through a funnel, all the spiritual energy that had been greedily absorbed by the World of Despair is now being returned back to the six realms.

The World of Despair had existed since ancient times, and had absorbed tens of thousands of years of spiritual energy! As if a floodgate had opened, it created a shocking flow of energy that had never been seen before.

This scene is reflected in Su Su’s eyes, the whole world is flowing with brilliance.

All things began to grow, the streams flowed, and the birds have all returned.

Su Su stared at the familiar picture scroll of mountains and rivers in front of her, lost in memory.

Five hundred years ago, she had used the world talisman in front of Tantai Jin to show him the most peaceful and beautiful scroll in the world.

The scroll was reflected in the young man’s stunned black eyes. That year she smiled as she looked at him, wishing for him to understand the beauty of the six realms.

Today, he has returned the beautiful scroll in its entirety.

The four-world creation pearl turned into streams of fireflies and fell upon the whole world.

The illusory pearl used the spirit energy from the “World of Despair” to create one body after another. Countless souls emerged from the pearl of life. The pearl of wolf guided the souls to the bodies. The pearl of enlightenment gave the bodies life and their memories.

Siying fell to the ground and muttered, “This is impossible, impossible…”

How could someone be able to alter the “World of Despair” onto another path?

She finally understood what Tantai Jin was doing. He knew there was no way to destroy the “World of Despair”. Even if it was sealed up again, it will just open again when the next demon god is reborn again.

So he entered the demon realm, took the demon path, collected the pearls, and drew in the spirit of all things.

He was able to use other people’s power as his own and that was how he also controlled the “World of Despair” to release all the souls that have been swallowed by it.

On the ground, Zanghai (Tantai Jin’s senior brother…the one he killed) opened his eyes. All the disciples of the Xiaoyao sect disciples also regained consciousness.

All the people who died in the nine formation spell (the formation spell Tantai Jin sacrificed everyone into to open the World of Despair) returned to the world.

All the mortals killed in the last five hundred years by the demons as sacrifices to the World of Despair also woke up on the streets and looked at each other in confusion “What happened?”

A door of a house was opened, and there came the joyous voice of a child, “Daddy! Mother, daddy is back!”

A gray-haired old man hugged the returned child and wept.

The demonic energy rushed towards the broken demon realm, guiding and forcing the return of all demons. Siying stood with Jingmie supporting her. They looked about at the land full of night flowers, at the vast mountains and flowers, at the demonic rivers, and were speechless for a long time.

Jingmie whispered in disbelief, “This is, a place that belongs to us?”

Everything quieted down, and the goddess in red was still standing in the same spot.

Cong Yu said softly, “Su Su.”

Don’t look anymore, you have been looking for a long time.

The rifts in the world have slowly disappeared. All the people who should have returned have all returned.

Except for one person.

Su Su looked at the closed rift.

Where is he? Why didn’t he come back?

She looked at the sunset and vaguely saw how Tantai Jin had appeared when they first met.

The young man was wearing a black cloak, his eyes lowered, thin, pale, and unfeeling.

This time, he didn’t come towards her but gradually disappeared into the world.

Just when Chong Yu thought Su Su would just keep on looking, Su Su turned and walked towards that demonic realm that is full of night flowers.

Su Su knew that he will not come no matter how long she waited. Even if she hadn’t shown up today, Tantai Jin would’ve still chosen to sacrifice himself into the World of Despair.

Jizhu guarded the barren abyss for thousands of years.

Li Su Su will guard the demon realm for life, and protect the six realms from harm.

Until the day she also dissipates.

But a god’s life, is so so very long.

16. A hundred years passed. Yue Fuya (remember Yue Fuya is a boy in the novel) comes to the gate of the demon realm year after year but the gate has never opened for him. Gong Ye Jiwu tried to tell him again that as the goddess guarding the demon realm, Su Su won’t leave easily but Yue Fuya lost his temper and accuses Gong Ye Ji Wu of not caring about Su Su. Repentant of his outburst the moment he saw the sadness in Gong Ye Ji Wu’s eyes, Yue Fuya apologizes. Even though everyone Gong Ye Ji Wu had killed is alive again, the guilt of what he had done remains with Gong Ye Ji Wu. Taking his master’s advice, Gong Ye Ji Wu is trying to do many good deeds to ease his heart.

17. After Yue Fuya leaves, Gong Ye Ji Wu talked to the demon realm plaque and tells Su Su that he has been traveling around in the mortal world for the last few years and had heard many stories. At night he would often dream of a man called Xiao Lin. A while ago, Gong Ye Ji Wu went to visit the places that used to belong to Xia Empire and Zhou Empire. Everything has changed except for two places. One was an old residence that belonged to a general of Xiao Empire. People said that it belonged to a Ye clan that had generations of Ye generals who died on the battlefield while protecting them. The people remember their sacrifices and wanted to honor them forever.

“The other place is a place that used to be the Zhou Empire’s royal tomb.” He sighed softly, “It is said in the history books that the nameless mad emperor buried his beloved in that place and did not allow anyone to disturb her resting place.”

After he was gone for a long time, a woman draped in a white cloak walked into the wind and snow with an umbrella.

She was light on her feet, and a blue butterfly landed on her shoulder.

“Su Su, where are you going? With us gone, will Ah Mi be scared?” The little phoenix was just born, small and chirping weakly causing Chong Yu to brust with motherly love.

“I am going to see an old friend. Jingmie will take good care of Ah Mi.” Her voice was calm and gentle.

“An old friend from six hundred years ago?”

“Yes.” She smiled. And also her past self.

Chong Yu stopped asking and entered the royal tomb with her. The imperial tomb of the Tantai royal family of six hundred years ago was very empty and barren.

The Zhou empire is gone so naturally there is no one to guard the royal tomb.

The royal tomb was filled with dark energy, mortals and most others would not be able to enter into a place like this. (Dark energy is a terrible translation for it, but I really couldn’t figure out a better word for it. The Chinese word is associated with death, and describes an energy that is without consciousness but is very harmful to almost all beings.)

Su Su saw a few blood crows’ withered bones resting on the side with no indication of how many years it had been since they died. She looked at them for a long time. It was actually them that had been guarding the royal tomb.

The coldness in the royal tomb dispersed as Su Su walked through it. She stepped into the innermost part and saw a gray tombstone. Without using a spell, Su Su gently wiped the ash off the tombstone with her hands.

The words carved on it became clear. Chong Yu flew over and a blue light illuminated the words on the tombstone.

Su Su lips curved and read in a low voice, “Tantai Jin’s beloved wife, Ye Xi Wu’s tomb. The second year of Jinghe, mid-winter 15.”

The blue butterfly flew to the other end and Chong Yu said in surprise “Su Su, come and see, there is another tombstone here!”

The two tombstones were close together, like a joint burial.

Su Su turned her eyes to look over at it.

The tombstone is much newer than Ye Xiwu’s. Her hand touched the tombstone and slowly squatted down.

A layer of ash fell down.

Her finger stopped when she read the words on it.

How could it be?

“Ye Xiwu’s husband, tomb of Tantai Jin.”

Even Chong Yu was stunned, “The time is…a hundred years ago. It says it was carved by your own hand.”

Su Su lowered her eyes, a thought flickered and the royal tomb was suddenly lit up with light.

Her divine eyes saw a jade box behind the tombstone.

For some reason, she suddenly did not dare to touch the jade box.

It had been a hundred years since Tantai Jin had left and all these years, she had been living as a dutiful god.

She opened the jade box.

Inside was a gold love thread, a bracelet of hand-strung bead Su Su made, a sword tassel, and the jade pendant she gave to Tantai Jin six hundred years ago.”

So all these things, that’s where they were.

She stretched out a hand and gently held the love thread.

The moment her finger touched the love thread, a set of images gradually became clear in her mind.

One hundred years ago, the Demon god entered the royal tomb alone. He changed into white clothes, covered up the demon mark between his brows, carrying a sword, clean, and completely unlike the appearance of the demon god. Leaning against her tomb, he started to carve his own tomb. When it was time to sign his name, he wrote down that it was engraved by Su Su.

He raised his hand and conjured up a form of a woman.

“Su Su” smiled and said “I’ve finished making the sword tassel, you must wear it close to your body and remember to come back this time.”

Tantai Jin looked at her and smiled, his eyes were very gentle. “Alright.”

“The mortals say if the beads were sincerely woven then we can be together forever. Once you are back, then we will be together forever, okay?”

The young man’s black hair was down, his skin was so pale that he looked almost sickly as he said softly, “Alright.”

“Su Su” hugged him and said with a smile, “Husband, I believe in you. You are not the demon god, you are not a monster that only slaughters. Su Su is waiting for you at the royal tomb, the world does not believe in you, I believe in you.”

He drank in the sight of her, nodded his head but did not touch her.

The woman’s figure slowly dissipated. Tantai Jin stroked the tombstone and whispered, “I know, you will love me. You said you believe me and will wait for my return.”

He smiled happily, content as a child.

“I promise you, I will be back soon.”

After a long time, he got up and left the imperial tomb.

The clean, white-clothed young man reverted back to the black-robed demon god.

His gentle eyes became cold and the demon mark appeared between his brows.

So he knew a long time ago that he was destined to die in the world of despair. He carved the tombstone for himself, pretending that Su Su had carved it.

He weaved the sword tassel that Su Su had not finished with his own hands, pretending that it was given to him by Su Su.

He immersed himself in a world where Su Su was very good to him and went to his death with contentment.

It turns out that in this life, it was so rare that Su Su was good to him. So rare that he had to go to this extent to deceive himself.

But in real life, her trust and protection he waited for never came. She loved the world. He used extreme ways to try to keep her then gradually understood what is the right way to love her.

In this battle of gods and demons, all beings have a home, except one person, who forever disappeared from this world.

A person who had not received love, sensitive and fragile, had already conceded defeat when he carved the tombstone with his own hands. He accepted the fact no one in the world would love him. He knew that Su Su was the daughter of the demon king and pushed Su Su into the gate of death so that he could cut off her past, allowing her to become a god.

Tantai Jin buried the past in the royal tomb. He thought that gods were devoid of love and would not shed tears for someone like him.

But at this moment, with the love thread in her hand…the goddess who should not have tears, looked at all the things that were gifted to him…

After a hundred years, she finally couldn’t hold back anymore and sobbed in front of his tomb.

ps. Boy, that was a difficult post to translate without tearing up but no fear, we are done with sad crying from this point on!

As much as I loved the lovey dovy scenes the drama added at the end, the novel ending resonated with me more. There will be an extra bit later on that actually explains how this whole thing came about from the previous demon god’s point of view and that will make this ending (specifically regarding the world of despair) that much cooler.
