1. Overtaken by the demon power, Gong Ye Ji Wu became Siying and Jingmie’s (the demon god’s two subordinates) puppet as the demon god replacement. That plan of course didn’t work too well since Gong Ye Ji Wu could never be as powerful as the real thing so the poor guy kept getting beat whenever Tantai Jin shows up. The possessed Gong Ye Ji Wu ended up killing a lot of innocent people, including almost wiping out a whole city. Even though Tantai Jin was the one who stopped Gong Ye Ji Wu but everyone assumed it was Tantai Jin that had gone on a crazy killing spree. Su Su showed up in time to see her second brother escaping from the city with a fox in hand. The fox is Pianran of course. Second brother explained to Su Su that Tantai Jin had saved a part of Pianran’s essence and that was how after 500 years, Pianran was able to have the fox body but she doesn’t have any of the memories so one could say this fox is sort of Pianran but not really. Second brother also gave Su Su a jade ring, and told her that it was from her grandmother whose last word to her was a wish that she would have a happy life and marriage. Turns out, Tantai Jin did manage to save Ye Xiwu’s grandmother. This little exchange was important because one of our heroine’s previous resentments was that Tantai Jin didn’t keep his word of keeping her grandmother safe. 

2. Like the show portrayed, Tantai Jin was forced to kill his own master. Unlike the drama though, Tantai Jin wanted to explain but Siying and Jingmie showed up just in time with a grand show of welcoming back their demon god, convincing everyone that Tantai Jin must have given in to his demon side. (By the way, there was no romance between Siying and Jingmie in the novel. I thought the romance was a nice touch by the drama…although I much preferred their ending in the novel) 

At this point, the whole world had been waiting for Tantai Jin to become a demon. 

Su Su had also thought like that before. 

Her prejudice against him had predetermined her thinking, believing that an evil embryo is destined to become a demon sooner or later. 

But after everything they have been through, seeing everyone cursing at him, calling him a monster that slaughtered all living beings. 

Su Su came to realize that there was a hand behind all this, pushing him to become a demon. 

She knew it was not like this. How did she forget that the evil bone was no longer in Tantai Jin’s body. It was with the price of rebirth that she had personally switched it for the essence of a god.

Even if no one else knew, she should have. 

He is a god, not a demon. 

The demon hates the world, but god loves all. 

3. Su Su decides to go find Tantai Jin. She didn’t go there without a plan though and she had the support of the few remaining immortal leaders. (unlike the drama, there were no annoying and backstabbing sect leaders in the novel.) I won’t go into all the details, but in the end, the plan required her to get a jade ring on Tantai Jin’s hand. 

4. Kind of liked how it went in the drama, Su Su tried to talk to Tantai Jin but he just laughed at her and told her all the reason why he hates her. Siying attacks Su Su and would’ve killed her but Tantai Jin stopped her. Siying was worried that Tantai Jin is getting all soft hearted again but he just tell her coldly that the last world creation pearl is hidden inside Su Su’s body. (The World of Suffering which is essentially a new world order that would automatically wipe out anything that is good, is the path the demon god has been trying to open all this time. In the novel, the path had not been opened by this point and needs four different world creation pearls to open.) 

She felt that someone was watching her. Su Su forced herself to keep her breathing even and did not open her eyes. In the silence, someone stared at her with cold hatred for a long time before leaving. 

Water filled with demon energy was rippling beside her, and the iron chains rattled. The girl was laid on a smooth stone bed, her hands bound by the iron chains. 

After a long time, Chong Yu (Su Su’s feather that showed up in the last couple of episodes.  It’s a weapon that she gained after losing the jade bracelet. Like the jade bracelet, the feather can communicate with Su Su as well.) said, “He is gone, you don’t have to pretend anymore!” 

Su Su who was just “vomiting blood” a short while ago, opened her eyes and sat up promptly on the stone platform. She wiped away the blood from the corner of her mouth, and the wound in her mouth was healed instantly. 

Su Su looked down from the platform at her surrounding. 

Chong Yu said, “He locked you in the water prison of the Demon Realm. It’s kinda strange though. Nothing is supposed to be able to grow in the Demon Realm right? This place is so bright and there are even flowers blooming.”

Su Su looked around and indeed, as Chung Yu had said, there were large areas of purple lotus blooming in the water. If it wasn’t for the black mist that was floating around in the air, the view in front of her could be called beautiful. 

A few rays of light landed on her body. Su Su raised her eyes and stared at the holes above for a while, her mouth couldn’t help but pull upward. 

Confused, Chung Yu asked “What are you smiling about? 

She doesn’t answer. 

The person who kept saying that he hated her, locked her in the only place with light and life in the Demon Realm. 

5. Su Su left a puppet fake Su Su locked up on the platform while she went on a quest to get Tantai Jin’s jade ring. (The puppet would talk and act like her.)  Knowing she had to get close to Tantai Jin, Su Su disguised herself as one of the demon young girls who had been presented to Tantai Jin as his night entertainment. Tantai Jin chose two girls, one for that night and one supposedly for the next night. Su Su was of course chosen for that very night. 

Without saying a word, he picked her up and headed for the big bed. 

Seeing their silhouette in the demon fire, Su Su suddenly felt a sudden panic in her heart. 

Is not like they haven’t done the deed before. At that time, both she and Tantai Jin were mortals. At that time, he hated her, and was often not gentle. Only when he loses control, can she see in the eyes of that youth who didn’t have love thread, a hint of tenderness and joy that couldn’t be hidden. 

The aphrodisiac poison had long disappeared in the river of time. She unconsciously wanted to leave but stopped herself when she saw the jade ring on his hand. 

Everything would be for naught if she backed off now. But if she doesn’t, then is she really going to do the deed with Tantai Jin here in the Demon Realm? 

Capturing the hint of hesitation in her eyes, the demon god (Tantai Jin) jeered “If you are not willing, then get out, send someone else in.” 

This sentence annoyed Su Su, wiping away all the chaotic thoughts in her mind. Staring at the flam-like demon seal on Tantai Jin’s forehead, she promised herself that once she can destroy that spell formation, she is going to stump on this hateful face a few times. 

She smiled through gritted teeth, “My Demon Lord had misunderstood, it is my fortune to be able to serve my Demon Lord in bed.” 

You just wait, you foolish dog!

What’s important about a body? She has even experienced the burning pain of the phoenix rebirth, she will use Chung Yu to beat him to a pulp later! 

Tantai Jin took off his robe, he didn’t take off her veil, seeming not caring at all what she looked like underneath the veil. Not caring at all if she is beautiful or ugly. 

He only looked at the black eyes of the girl in front of him, eyes that were burning so bright with anger that they threaten to go up in flame. 

After a bit, he said coldly, “Eyes, close them.” 

Su Su’s hope of getting out of this shattered. She thought to herself, let’s just get this over quickly.

Cold hands, fell on her eyes and long eyelashes. In the darkness, she had an illusion that the person on top of her loved her deeply. 

A little dazed, she couldn’t help but open her eyes to peer at Tantai Jin’s expression. 

The next moment her eyes were covered by a black cloth, followed by his voice filled with sarcasm, “Aren’t you guys the ones who said you will bring me something refreshing? Dead fish, this is what you have to show me?” 

What @#$%&! deep love! 

Unable to hold back anymore, figuring she is supposed to be a demon not a mortal woman right now, she formed an ice arrow and jabbed at his shoulder. 

Tantai Jin has the body of the demon god now, the moment the ice arrow touched him, it evaporated. 

Su Su seemed to have heard a chuckle from him. 

Was that her imagination? She listened again but there were no other sounds. 

A night of abandonment, the Demon Realm stopped being cold. 

Knowing she had to pretend to be a weak demon, Su Su forced herself to fall into a deep sleep. 

The girl’s naked feet were beautiful and petite, her veil was still on, and her hands unconsciously rested on Tantai Jin’s chest. 

Under the chest, is a beating heart, the most vulnerable spot for anyone. 

He didn’t move her hand. Over her veil, the Demon God pressed a kiss on her lips. 

There is a little secret that Su Su didn’t know about Tantai Jin or else she would’ve guessed right away that he knew her identity. It wasn’t as prominent in the drama, but Tantai Jin is unable to feel or understand emotions, which is why even when he finally learned to cry, it was only via his left eye (Ye Xiwu’s eye). Tantai Jin eventually started to gain a love thread because of Ye Xiwu…but that didn’t exactly mean all those new emotions extended to other people. As a mortal, Tantai Jin didn’t feel any sexual urges at all except towards our heroine and there was no indication that changed even when he became an immortal. 

6. Su Su is convinced Tantai Jin had no idea who she was but in a subsequent conversation Tantai Jin had with Gong Ye Ji Wu we find out that he had known exactly who he spent the night with. Gong Ye Ji Wu by this point had regained control over his mind and body. The novel doesn’t explain what happened, other than the fact Gong Ye Ji Wu is now locked up in a dungeon. Su Su had found Gong Ye Ji Wu and had talked to him but couldn’t afford to spoil her plan by freeing him. Tantai Jin pays Gong Ye Ji Wu a visit in the dungeon and sends him to the mortal realm after sealing his power as an immortal, with the expressed purpose of seeing how the ever-perfect Gong Ye Ji Wu/Xiao Lin would fare as a powerless mortal.  　　

As long as he is alive, Gong Yi Ji Wu will never appear again in front of him to annoy him. 

Tantai Jin waved his hand, Gong Yi Ji Wu disappeared. 

He knew he can’t kill Xiao Lin. He came to that understanding five hundred years ago. Those alive can never defeat a dead man. 

But what if this time…if Xiao Lin is the one who stayed alive, and he is the one who died? 

7. Tantai Jin takes the still under disguise Su Su to the mortal world and buys 12 beads from a random street vendor. Tantai Jin browbeats Su Su into threading the 12 beads into a bracelet for him. In exchange for the bracelet, Tantai Jin gives Su Su the jade ring on his hand. Realizing Tantai Jin must’ve known her true identity all this time and why she was there, Su Su tries to talk to Tantai Jin but he sends her away refusing to acknowledge her identity. 

8. Chung Yu feels bad for Tantai Jin and convinces Su Su to give Tantai Jin another chance. 

There was something Chung Yu had hidden from Su Su all this time. Chung Yi had not planned on ever revealing it, but today, he suddenly felt pity for Tantai Jin when he saw the way Tantai Jin looked at Su Su on the market street (in the mortal realm). 

“Aren’t you a weapon of the gods? Why would a god’s weapon feel pity for people?” 

Chung Yu nudged the side of her face and said in a clear voice, “God loves the world.” 

Everyone thinks that a god should have no desire, without love. But someone who is without desire and love can only be called a zombie. How can someone like that be worthy to be called a god? 

“God loves the world.” Su Su muttered. She suddenly remembered Jize (the god of time) in the barren abyss, who had kept a sense of empathy even toward the demons in the barren abyss.” 

That was how the gods of the ancient days really were. 

Chung Yu confessed to Su Su that Tantai Jin had spent time with Su Su in a dream world where she was transformed back to her child self and promised Tantai Jin that she would not leave him even after they left the dream world. (The drama left out at least 2 dream worlds in the novel, including this one) Recovering that part of her lost memory, Su Su decides to go back for Tantai Jin one more time. 

9. Tantai Jin laughed in Su Su’s face once again when she asked him to leave with her and told her that everything was simply a game to him since it is a rare event for a goddess to sleep with a demon god. After Su Su leaves, 

Tantai Jin turned and sat back down on his lonely and cold throne. 

He stared at the empty room and said in a daze, “If you could say those words to me earlier, how good would that have been.” 

He reached out a hand, touched the empty air, and smiled tenderly. 

“I will.” 

10. From this point on, things take a drastic dive for the worse. Tantai Jin sets up a trap for Su Su by turning the bead bracelet into a blind youth who was dying. Reminded of her own traumatic past, Su Su takes pity on the youth but is then forced to make a difficult choice when she is given the chance to either save Gong Ye Ji Wu or the blind youth. Calmly giving the chance of survival to Gong Ye Ji Wu, Su Su then goes back to the blind youth to fulfill his last dying wish…even knowing that there must be something amiss about the youth. The blind youth severely wounded Su Su and took the world creation pearl from her body. Siying then arrives to confirm to Su Su that the whole was a trap laid by Tantai Jin. Su Su wasn’t surprised since only Tantai Jin would know how to use her past against her. As further proof, the demon god’s arrow, the one only the demon god can control,  showed up and pierced right through Su Su’s heart. 

Like a butterfly with a broken wing, she fell from the sky. 

The last thing Su Su saw, was the grey-robed youth looking at her coldly. 

Everything the grey-robed youth sees, Tantai Jin can also see. 

This is why that arrow can so accurately pierce through her heart, causing her to tremble with pain. 

She was wrong. She should’ve understood a long time ago but why did she keep thinking a demon god would still have feelings.

How foolish was she to want to take him away from the Demon Relm. 

Chung Yu said god loves the world, no, it is by destiny that god should not love demon. 

Because after all these hundreds of years, in that demon, in front of them, are forever other things. 

It was like that for Ye Xiwu and for her as well. 

11. Siying moves to kill Su Su once and for all but the youth stopped him, revealing that Tantai Jin had an even more cruel fate arranged for Su Su. At this point, Su Su is a half god so Tantai Jin wants to put her body deep into the ground in the Demon Relm, essentially using her body as the fertilizer to create more demons. This move shocked even Siying since this would be a fate worse than death. Siying could tell at this point that Su Su is pregnant but chose to keep quiet about it, fearing that if Tantai Jin knew he would change his mind about Su Su. (Siying is a demon that has something to do with life creation, so that’s why she could tell) 

12. Tantai Jin forcefully takes out his love thread and becomes fully the demon god. Ignoring Chung Yu’s desperate pleas, Tantai Jin pushes Su Su into the deep abyss of the Demon Relm. The immortal sects all show up to try to stop Tantai Jin before realizing belatedly they have walked into yet another one of Tantai Jin’s traps. To open up the World of Despair, Tantai Jin needed lots of sacrifices and he planned to use all the immortals for just that, starting with his own senior brother who had taken such good care of him before. 

13. While Tantai Jin is wiping everyone out, including everyone in his own sect, Su Su is undergoing her full transformation to become a real goddess. In the process, Su Su sees her childhood (as an egg) and how much her mother loved her. (By the way, the love thread Ye Bing Chang stole was actually Su Su’s dad’s who was a demon king. The love thread stores all of the love the person felt toward their loved one. That was why the demon king had wanted Ye Bing Chang to give Su Su’s mom his love thread. Thanks to Ye Bing Chang, Su Su’s mom never did find out that the demon king truly loved her and wasn’t just using her.) 

14. Su Su emerges from the abyss as the only god in the world.

“The demon god only has one weakness. Five hundred years ago, I used the god essence to switch out your evil bone. My jade bracelet had told me even with the god essence, once the devil bone is destroyed, you will still die with it. So I secretly sealed it into my soul.” Su Su reached out a hand and caressed his face, “So even with the emotionless path of cultivation, I still couldn’t become a god.” 

Because I once had a fervent wish, and that was for you to live a good life. 

I promised you, to protect you. 

Tantai Jin’s hand began to tremble, even he didn’t know why. Inside his empty heart, there would be a pain that is radiating through his whole body. 

“But today, I think, I can no longer protect it.” 

Su Su wrapped her arms around Tantai Jin, “In everyone’s life, there are things that one doesn’t want to do but must do. Once, I wished you could live a normal life like everyone else but was forced to put six nails into your heart. I want you alive, but my very existence is to bring about your death.”

The eternal fire burned around them, he felt pain but also a warmth at the same time. 

A demon god does not have tears so when his blood dropped one at a time onto her shoulder he didn’t know but Su Su saw them. She saw his blood tears, fell, like pearls. 

The pale-faced young man whispered, “Li Su Su, this life has been so hard but I don’t want to die.” 

“I know.” She closed her eyes, the white light of divine power shattered the evil bone in her hand, “Don’t be scared, I won’t let you be alone this time.” 

My wish is that, on that city wall that year, to shatter the evil bone, and disappear with you five hundred years ago. 

15. After Tantai Jin was gone, Su Su planned to use her own death to close the World of Despair. Realizing what Su Su is planning to do, Siying and Jingmie tried to stop her even knowing they are no match for the power of a god. All the other demons also threw themselves at Su Su, dying in droves. 

This is a part of the novel I think the drama wasn’t able to adequately explain. There are two kinds of energy in this world. The good spirit energy and demon spirit energy. When the good spirit energy is vibrant, that meant the demons could only be shut up in the deep dark abyss. As the good energy grows that meant the demon’s situation would become even worse. The demons were not willing to be shut forever in the dark abyss and were willing to die for a slim chance of creating a new world for themselves.

ps. I think it will probably take four posts to finish the novel ending so that should give you guys an idea of how much the drama left out. Also, I was quite happy with the novel ending so don’t despair too much after finishing the drama.

pss. I actually didn’t mind the drama ending in some ways. I especially liked the fact that our two leads had a chance to affirm their love for one another before the big end. It was also awesome to see them as a couple with blessings from their loved ones. As you can tell, in the novel, our two leads really didn’t have any of those opportunities. With that said, I do still prefer the novel ending though.
