This one is a noona romance set in the aesthetic medical industry. Our heroine is a divorced woman working as a sales executive in an aesthetic hospital she had started with her best friend. At her best friend’s request, our heroine successfully recruited our hero who is a highly sought-after doctor among their competitors. As a divorced woman with a teenage daughter, our heroine knows firsthand how difficult it could be for someone in her situation to find love again. More than a bit flustered when our hero suddenly begins to show interest in her, our heroine can’t help but wonder if this is another relationship destined to fail.

I have mixed feelings about this one. The show certainly had plenty of enjoyable moments. As noona romance goes, this one actually felt very refreshing in that our heroine doesn’t have the successful tough woman vibe nor does our hero come off like a much younger little brother. I especially love Jasper Liu’s portrayal of our hero who has a perfect mix of maturity and a rare sense of innocence when it comes to love.

The one thing I didn’t love about the show is how fractured it felt. The show really followed three storylines: our heroine’s career and romance, her ex-husband’s story with his new wife, and her best friend’s marriage. Not only did the show try to tell too many stories that really didn’t connect well together, but they also tried to give each story multiple social lessons. Toward the last five episodes, it really felt like I was watching three shows at once, with multiple crises going on at the same time. To give the show credit, all three storylines were interesting enough to keep me watching and it helped none of the crisis dragged on.

Overall, I think Viva Femina is still worth checking out especially if you are a Jasper Liu fan or love noona romances.

ps. Spoiler ahead

Interest tidbit about the show. For those who have seen Viva Femina, remember the part where our heroine bowed three times after she found out she is our hero’s first love…and first kiss? That three bows was an idea the lead actress came up with herself after discussing the scene with the director before they even started shooting. The three bows signified the following: 1st bow- Admiration, 2nd bow-Thank you, 3rd bow- Bye bye. I have to confess that I laughed pretty hard at that scene.
