Synopsis: Unlike her twin sister who excels at everything, our heroine’s only aspiration is to be a playwright for the gods. Unfortunately, our heroine’s relaxing life comes to a screeching halt when she catches the attention of our hero once he realizes she actually has more potential than her twin sister. Our hero and heroine will eventually fall in love which in this heavenly world is a big no-no. Part 1 of this show will obviously end in tons of tears but part 2 is where our leads will get a second chance…um…wait, it might be the third chance on earth as mortals but without memories of their past together.

First Impression: I have to confess while I don’t mind watching shows in this genre, they do all seem to have a very similar story structure so I don’t have a great track record when it comes to finishing them.

As you can see from the synopsis, Immortal Samsara’s story is pretty predictable. However, I did enjoy the first five episodes I watched. Our two leads have a pretty fun vibe together which makes me immensely curious how that will play out in Part 2 when they are mortals without their past memories. One nice thing about the heavenly celestial genre is that with their tendency to have multiple “lives”, it does kinda allow the story to refresh itself mid-way through.

I do feel a tad bad for actress Yang Zi though since a few of her well known past roles feel very similar to this one so it’s hard not to have the “been there done that” sense while watching this. On the flip side, Yang Zi is obviously very comfortable with this type of role and it shows.

All in all, I think Immortal Samsara is worth checking out as long as you don’t mind the story being on the predictable side.
