Zong Chen fell silent, Feng Zhi Wei said softly again, “I have also studied this kind of Gu. The problem needs to be solved at its source. The key to this must rest on Jin Siyu. I don’t want to be covered up like that, forever unable to get close to anyone for the rest of my life. Since he has the cure, then I need to go back there even more, to make this twin not a twin anymore.”

Zong Chen was silent for a long time but eventually shook his head and said, “No, Zhi Wei. This matter has too many ramifications. Everyone has given their all for this. The cavalry led by Tao Yangyu (That’s the kid who knew our heroine as Wei Zhi in the southsea and ended up meeting her again when he unwisely lead a bunch of his soldiers into the trap set by Jin Siyu) should have marched in the night to Da Yue’s main camp…I don’t have the right to make the decision to let you go back.”

Feng Zhi Wei didn’t reply. By this time their group has already made it the city gate. A portion of the guards at the gate has already been killed so they didn’t encounter many difficulties as they made their way out of the city. However, Zong Chen and Gu Nan Yi stopped in their track once they jumped up to the city gate.

Outside of the city gate, there was supposed to be a bare small hill with withered vegetation and covered with a heavy blanket of snow. However, at this moment, in front of that hill, there is a dense long line of golden armors, surrounding the whole Pucheng city. The guards from Jin Siyu’s personal army, wearing snow-dusted golden armors, lined the perimeter, their countless eyes staring coldly at the chaos inside the city.

There are still a few scattered corpses and bloodstains on the ground. Obviously, someone had forced their way through here, presumably Ning Cheng’s group– they had came out early and Jin Siyu’s guards hadn’t had time to set up their formation yet so someone as skilled in martial art as Ning Cheng blazed through them. (In theory, while most normal soldiers are useless against a highly-skilled fighter (most soldiers would not have internal energy), military formations are designed to combat that– albeit, it would cost a lot of lives in the process but should still eventually be able to kill a highly skilled fighter. Now, both Ning Cheng and Gu Nan Yi are supposedly like the legendary sort of fighters so a military formation might not be a lot of use against them anyway.)

“Just as we guessed, Jin Siyu was prepared. Wonder how many groups got out.” Zong Chen said, “Why isn’t Helian here yet?”

Feng Zhi Wei seemed to be observing the surrounding troops as she slowly walked around the city wall and finally stopped under the Da Yue flag, her hand very slowly brushing over the wall. Zong Chen was in the middle of trying to decide if they should wait for Helian to break through the barricade together or just go first when there suddenly came sounds of commotion followed immediately by a rider on a horse galloping straight into camp and loudly reporting something in a panic. The few captains under the military banner all turned in unison to look at the rider. They couldn’t see the expression on the men’s faces but the nervousness spreading out among the soldier was palatable.

“Yao Yangyu has started.” On top of the city gate, Zong Chen said “The original plan was for him to lead a surprise attack on Da Yue’s main camp but Ning Yi was worried that a lone army going deep into enemy territory could be completely wiped out if something goes wrong. So they ended up marching three days and three nights to lay waiting in the valley between Pucheng city and the main camp. There is a river that’s not too wide that had recently been frozen solid. Once the military camp received the warning alert from Pucheng then they would send their troop over. In their rush to get here, they would definitely choose to cross the river on foot, then…”

“Then the ice melted.” Feng Zhi Wei smiled, “With all this snow, no one could figure out if it is snow or salt on the river. To melt the ice with salt, it’s a good idea.”

The Da Yue troop outside of the city gate is feeling quite restless. His Highness had ordered them to surround Pucheng City and to kill whoever came out of it but no one else is coming out. His Highness hasn’t shown up and the military base is being attacked with things going badly. According to the military regulations, if the military base camp is in danger then all troops outside need to immediately return to give aid. They can’t ignore the danger their base camp is in nor can they just leave so all the soldiers are feeling anxious, unsure of what they should do.

After thinking about it, the commanding captain decides to send someone into the city for further instructions. Raising his head, the captain hollered “Open the door!”

There were originally quite a number of guards at the city gate especially since Jin Siyu had specifically ordered all areas to be on alert. However, with it being New Year’s Eve, everyone thought for sure nothing would happen so quite a few soldiers snuck to go spend it with their families and the captains turned a blind eye to them. There were also a few guards who hid out of sight to roast fire and drink together but those have long been killed by the spies within the city. The gatekeeper leader is actually still there but his neck is in Gu Nan Yi’s hand. Zong Chen and Feng Zhi Wei looked at each other and both felt that it was not the best time to force their way out, they might as well wait to see what happens. The moment Zong Chen shook his head, Gu Nan Yi flicked the gate leader on the back of the neck, causing the man to let out a “Ah.” Zong Chen flicked his fingers, shooting a pill into the man’s opened mouth.

“I’ll gift you with a brain nourishing pill.” Zong Chen gives the gate leader a gentle smile, “I imagine you are a smart one, you know what to say and what not to say.”

His face pale, the man walked over and yelled out the gate door “Is it General Lee? I am duty-bound and cannot make mistakes, please show your identity token.”

“Nothing big happened inside?” Seeing him, General Lee was taken aback, “There were people that forced their way out of the city gate, I thought you guys must’ve all been wiped out and was just thinking if I should force my way in!”

“The few just now were high in the sky, they breezed by like the wind, we couldn’t catch up to them so we didn’t suffer much damage.” The gate leader yelled, “I too saw His Highness’ golden smoke signal but haven’t heard anything coming from inside and couldn’t tell what had happened either. His Highness had previously ordered that without his personal edict, the troop cannot enter the city. General Lee, do you have His Highness’ Tiger Seal?” (Tiger Seal is a military seal that allow the holder the right to command the military.)

“No need! We are not entering the city! We just have matters to report to His Highness personally. Open the door and just let two of our brothers in!”

The gate cracked open and the two soldiers on horsebacks were allowed in after their identity tokens were checked before the gate was immediately shut tightly again. The two soldiers were about to head straight into the city center to report to Prince An when they suddenly saw a person by the gate door turning around and saying with a big smile “I will be borrowing your identity for a bit.”
