According to legend, it is said that Queen Ying had left an ironclad motto to her future generation. As for what that motto is, only the royal descendants of Dacheng would know.

As for all the other emperors, they probably also left similar edicts for their future generation to protect the bloodline of Dacheng. But as the sand of time flows, it looks like Xuan Yuan clan is the only one who is still keeping their promise.

This particular royal descendant, has a gentle disposition. After Madam Feng passed away, he had hinted at Feng Zhi Wei that his organization will follow all of her orders and forever protect her. As for the sword in her hand (meaning the organization), whether she will use it to protect herself or pull it out to harm others, it will be up to her to decide.

Feng Zhi Wei has no comment regarding this question.

Certain things often have a way of progressing until there is no other path to take.

“Qiu Shangqi (her uncle, Madam Feng’s brother) was seriously injured and died. Chun Yu Hong (I believe that Chun Yu’s dad) takes over as the general. The royal court might send an overseer to supervise the army.” Feng Zhi Wei flipped through a secret report and abruptly raised her head to look at Zong Chen, “Qiu Shan Qi…was he really injured on the battlefield?”

Zong Cheng was silent for a moment before replying “No.”

Falling into silence as well, Feng Zhi Wei didn’t press for more answers as a slight chill filled her heart.

Once the case regarding the royal descendant of Dacheng came out, Zong Chen would inevitably cut off all clues that might expose her identity. Therefore, Mrs. Qiu suddenly fell ill and could not speak. Therefore, Qiu Shang Qi was “wounded” on the battlefield.

The preservation of one life, requires so many sacrifices. Yet, she can’t even refuse. Without being aware of it, she is already carrying so many lives on her back.

“Da Yue changed the commanding general at the last moment on the battlefield…” Zhi Wei flipped over another page, “The battle was at a stalemate. The Emperor of Da Yue being dissatisfied had sent the third prince, Prince An to be an overseer. Who knew after only overseeing the army for two days, this Prince An killed off the commanding general and took over the command himself!”

She sighed in admiration “Great, great, who is this who dared to go against the biggest rule in warfare? I have not cared much about foreign affairs before so I have not heard of him.”

“This is one of the princes of Da Yue. Seems to be quite favored by the emperor. Unlike Tian Sheng, Da Yue has not named their crown prince for a long time and this one has the most support.

“How’s his personality?”

This time even Zong Chen was silent for a while before replying “Hard to tell.”

For Zong Chen who seems gentle on the surface but haughty in reality to give such an observation, this new general of Da Yue must truly be someone who is not easily trifled with.

Feng Zhi Wei smiles then pulls out another report.

“…The emperor of Xiliang died, and the one and half year old crown prince ascended to the throne. The queen mother will be an overseer for the time being.” Feng Zhi Wei exclaims with surprise, “Yin Zhi died?”

“Supposedly has died for a while but they kept it under wraps.” Zong Chen replies “Until all the key ministers have been named, that’s when the young crown prince took the throne.”

“Why were they suppressing the news?”

“Don’t know. It seems like Xiliang was in chaos for a bit after Yin Zhi died but it was all carefully hidden. During that time, all the nations had their own trouble to deal with so we didn’t have time to worry too much about Xiliang. But we did have some people that were by Xiliang’s border and caught wind of what’s going on.”

Zhi Wei smiles and sets aside the report “In the end, these are matters of other countries…what’s this?”

In between the secret report, there were a few small loose notes.

“These are copies of some documents we got from our spies in Xiliang. It was from these letter exchanges between the officials of Xiliang that we got a glimpse of what happened after their emperor died.”

Zhi Wei was about to take a closer look when Gu Zhi Xiao suddenly crawled over, grabbed the notes and crumbled them in her fat paws.

Feng Zhi Wei was about to take the paper back but Master Gu has already taken the paper to fold them into some paper toys for his Gu Zhi Xiao. Unwilling to be left out of the fun, the two pen monkeys jump in and pulls on the paper, and soon tear one in half.

Her brows knitted together, Zhi Wei was about to grab the unruly bunch for a spanking when Zong Chen interjects “It’s okay. They are just some notes, not important.”

“You can’t spoil a child.” Zhi Wei sighed and tries to teach the very stubborn Silly Gu “Once a girl is spoiled, it will be big trouble when she grows up.”

Why is this person who doesn’t care about anything is even more skilled than her when it comes to spoiling the kid?

“Don’t be like you.” Focused on folding the paper for his Gu Zhi Xiao, Silly Gu doesn’t raise his head, “Zhi Xiao has to be happy.”

Gu Zhi Xiao threw herself on Master Gu and chewed on his finger but is pushed away by her disgusted father.

Zhi Wei lowered her eyes and pursed her lips slightly.

Is he saying that he doesn’t want Gu Zhi Xiao to become someone like her, one who is restrained and burdened all her life, one who can never be herself?

This guy with a jade like heart, when did he become so perceptive?

Silly Gu finished folding the paper and Gu Zhi Xiao begins to giggle.

The folding was very simple. Surprised as she stares at the slender leaf shape, Zhi Wei recognized that it was the leaf flute she had taught Master Gu to make before.

There are not many trees on the grassland so it has been a long time since Master Gu played his leaf flute. Apparently, he must’ve missed it that he is even folding one out of paper.

Wanting the flute, Gu Zhi Xiao babbles and reaches for it but Master Gu avoided her hand and just stares at the paper flute in his hand blankly.

In that moment, he thought of that night when she was by his side, folding the soft leaf with stars seemingly darting across her eyes. Or that few days when he finally understood what being separated by death meant. He sat on the rooftop drenched by the rain, playing the leaf flute until the corner of his lips were stained with blood.

The cold and slightly salty feel, is the taste of bitterness, the taste of life.

Perhaps he preferred the eternal peace he had in the past, but now, he is willing to understand what those emotions mean.

To understand what is bitter, then one will understand the joy that comes after the bitterness.

Holding the paper flute in his hand for a long time, he got up, found a box, and carefully puts it in.

A confused Gu Zhi Xiao sits on the carpet, unable to understand why her daddy had folded a toy for her but in the end refused to give it to her and put it away like it was a treasure.

The one who understood, picked her up in silence and pressed her face against her porcelain-like small face. Her face is also young and delicate like spring flowers, yet her heart, in the flowing sands of time, is already withered.

As Mei Do, who is destined to walk towards her marriage with a heart full of hatred, the grassland has entered into a new era under the leadership of their new king and queen.

  • Helian’s uncle’s rebellion was put down promptly by the unified effort of Blue Bird, White Deer and Gold Lion clan. The 20,000 royal army that was under Helian’s uncle’s control immediately returned to the royal court.
  • His uncle’s death had the intimidating effect on Helian’s restless uncles, cousins and nephews. If even the most powerful Kulcha family failed, then others would not dare to have any more fanciful thoughts…because all those who did are dead.

One night, a group of uncles, cousins and nephews gathered for a tent meeting. The next day, the king warmly summoned all those who attended the meeting and read out everything they had discussed the night more. Moreover, the king treated them accordingly based on their conversation the night before. Some were granted a seat, some were left standing, some were forced to kneel down and some were even pushed directly out, returning with only their head.

Helian’s unruly relatives fell into silence since that day– they were extremely careful in placing guards around that night and not even a shadow was seen so how did the king find out everything that was said?
