Love Journey (Chinese Drama, New)

Suspicious why a normal white collar worker would be involved in the purchase of a famous and extremely expensive painting, our hero, a cop goes undercover to befriend our heroine. Going on a road trip together with our heroine and her new friends, our hero begins to fall for our heroine but hides his feelings and his true identity until he had to rescue her from a drug ring.

This one has a little bit of everything. Mystery (with the painting), action, crime and of course, plenty of romance.

Nokdu Flower (Korean Drama, New)

Set in the tumultuous period of 1894-1895 when the Donghak Peasant Revolution took place, the story follows two half-brothers who end up fighting on the opposite sides.

Cho Jung Seok (Familiar Wife) plays the older brother who is the first son of a local wealthy government officer but due to his mother’s low status lives as if he is a servant, raised to be his father’s right hand man to handles all of his father’s dirty deeds. In contrast, Yoon Si Yoon (Your Honor) who plays the younger brother is raised with all of his father’s hopes and dreams. Our heroine is a charismatic and courageous young businesswoman who dreams of becoming the best merchant in Joseon and will be Cho Jung Seok’s character’s love interest.

Boy, this one is solid all around. The story, the pacing, the character development and the acting are all great. The director (who directed Tree with Deep Roots) went all out not only in casting great leads but all the secondary characters are played by awesome seasoned actors as well. My only complaint is that I am a tad bit too scared to follow the show based on its subject matter especially since it is based on a true historical event…which often means a tragic ending. Still, I really liked the first two episodes so I might follow it and just hope really hard…

I Will Not Work Overtime, Period (Japanese Drama)

Due to the traumatic experiences of her past, our heroine has a rule against working overtime. Placing more importance on experiencing the simple joys of life instead of climbing the invisible ladders at work, our heroine makes sure she works efficiently to finish all she needs to to get off on time. Quite content with her life even if there are those who often questions her refusal to work overtime, our heroine’s work life gets a tad bit complicated when her ex (whom she broke up with because of his workaholic tendency) shows up as her newest co-worker.

Hmm…I liked the first episode but I am a bit worried that each episode will just be our heroine proving to the next stubborn co-worker that working more does not equal being a better employee. Our heroine also starts the show with a boyfriend she is thinking about marrying already so I am not certain if we will actually get a romance line with the ex. (Judging by the poster though, the ex is the hero so maybe we will get a love line anyway.)

Kakafukaka -Kojirase Otona no Share House (Japanese Drama, New)

Her life seemingly going nowhere, our heroine didn’t think she could become any more pathetic than she already is until she comes home to find her boyfriend with another woman. With nowhere to go, our heroine is thankful when her friend offers to let her take over her share house contract…that is until she shows up at the house and finds her ex-boyfriend in it. Already feeling somewhat awkward to be living in the same house as her ex, our heroine is stunned when our hero confesses that his “boy parts” hasn’t been um…working for the last two years but somehow his problem is solved the moment he comes in physical contact with her so now he would like her help.

How’s that for a wacky hilarious premise?! The first episode was both very awkward to watch but hilarious at the same time.

Déjà vu (Taiwanese Drama, New)

Well aware that his forgetful and immature personality has often been a cause of disappointment to his wife, our hero is determined to impress her for once on their sixth anniversary. Feeling hopeless when what should’ve have been a magical night turned into yet another disastrous anniversary, our dejected hero gets into a taxi…and ends up finding himself in a familiar yet also completely different parallel world to his own. In the parallel world our hero is stunned to discover that his wife has become his best friend’s live-in girlfriend. Stuck in a strange new reality, our hero must figure out what he must do in order to go home.

The first episode was pretty good but the story was a bit predictable so it would be interesting to see now that the backstory is set up if the rest of the show would be able to divert from all the other shows with a similar theme.

Le Coup de Foudre (Taiwanese Drama, New)

Based on a popular C-novel “I Don’t Like This World, I Only Like You” by Qiao Yi (which apparently is based on the author’s own story with her husband). Losing contact with our hero four years ago after she rejected his confession at the end of high school, our heroine is filled with uncertainty when our hero shows up again in her life. Seemingly out of sync when in comes to love, our heroine finally gathers up the courage to admit her feelings for our hero but by this point, it seems some other girl might’ve taken her place…or so she thought.

I went into this one with very low expectations since this one was probably like the fifth “young first love” C-drama I have checked out in the last couple weeks. Much to my surprise, this one turned out to be extremely enjoyable! That’s not to say the story itself or the characters for that matter were all that refreshing but the pacing, the editing, and the humor were all spot on to make this show very entertaining.

By the way, this one is on Viki. If you don’t see it under the Chinese drama tab then search for it by name.
