Episode 10
◦ Convinced that he must be the heaven’s chosen, the 5th Prince asks Zhi Wei to help him by burying a wooden figure in the Crown Prince’s yard. Telling Zhu Yin of the 5th Prince’s request, Zhi Wei nervously asks if this is something that would harm Ning Yi. Coming out of his hiding place, Xin Zi Yan tells Zhi Wei that she must do as the 5th Prince asked and assures her that the deed would actually help Ning Yi.
◦ Zhi Wei successfully finds an opportunity to bury the wooden figure but also ends up finding out by chance that the Crown Prince is planning to poison Ning Yi. Having assumed that the Crown Prince must be planning on poisoning Ning Yi during the dinner party that night, Zhi Wei has all the courtesans from the brothel do everything they can to stop our hero from eating or drinking.
◦ Shaking his head in amusement when he finally finds a moment to meet with Zhi Wei in secret, Ning Yi tells Zhi Wei that the Crown Prince is not so foolish as to try to poison his brother in his own house and on his own dinner party. (It looks like the Crown Prince was probably talking about the jade ring but of course the jade ring is no longer in our hero’s possession but is with someone really close to the emperor.)
◦ The emperor has been getting increasingly tired and sickly but all the palace physicians can’t find anything wrong with him so the emperor just assumed that he must be getting old.
◦ Back in his own house, Ning Yi confronts Zhi Wei who admits that she is staying at the brothel house with the intention of repaying him by finding some way to help him. His expression darkens when Zhi Wei recounts how she had heard the Crown Prince personally admitting to framing the 3rd Prince, Ning Yi vows that one day he will get the Crown Prince to admit his crime publically. Furious when he finds out what Zhi Wei did for the 5th Prince, Ning Yi yells at our heroine for putting herself in immense danger.
◦ Grumpy with Xin Zi Yan for letting Zhi Wei put herself in such danger, Ning Yi tells Xin Zi Yan to find a way to accept Zhi Wei into his college.
◦ Surprised when Zhi Wei shows up unexpectedly to look for Ning Yi, Xin Zi Yan quickly ducks out of sight. Fuming as he listens to Ning Yi tells Zhi Wei to get herself into his college THEN to have our heroine complains that she thinks he is a strange man who frequents the brothel but is hilariously afraid of his own wife, a grumpy Xin Zi Yan makes some noise. Startled by the noise, Zhi Wei wants to go investigate but is quickly assured by Ning Yi that it was a noise made by his pet fox. Displeased, our hero’s “pet fox” stumps away after creating more ruckus. (I love it that when Zhi Wei said Xin Zi Yan is weird, Ning Yi made her come closer and say it again louder…)
Episode 11
◦ Hiding his surprise when Zhi Wei suggests that Ning Yi is sending her to the school to spy on Xin Zi Yan, Ning Yi remains silent and allows Zhi Wei to believe as she wants. Knowing that Ning Yi’s real intention of sending her to the school is to protect her from 5th Prince, Zhi Wei thank our hero for thinking of her again.
◦ As our hero predicated, the 5th Prince has ordered Zhi Wei to be killed but she is saved by a mysterious swordsman named Gu Nan Yi. Hiding out of sight, Xin Zi Yan sees the whole thing and reports back to Ning Yi that he believes the mysterious swordsman is sent by Mama Qiu to protect Zhi Wei. Unable to shake off the somewhat strange swordsman who insists on following her everywhere, a grumpy Zhi Wei ends up getting tasked with the unpleasant job of feeding Gu Nan Yi.
◦ Ning Yi shows up unexpectedly while Zhi Wei is with Gu Nan Yi (after tricking Gu Nan Yi to leave for a moment). After teasing Zhi Wei for a bit, Ning Yi gets right down to business and tell our heroine that if she is willing to do something for him that all the debts between them will be cleared…then they could have nothing more to do with one another. His eyes narrowing when Zhi Wei promptly accepts his proposal, Ning Yi quickly relaxes his expression and tells Zhi Wei to switch out the wooden figure she buried in the Crown Prince’s yard with the one he gives her.
◦ The 5th Prince tries to kill Zhi Wei again but our heroine is saved by Ning Yi’s arrival.
◦ The Crown Prince has been making himself sick to set up a trap for 5th Prince and the time has come to finally pull the trigger. All his lovely dream shattered when the wooden figure was found, the 5th Prince is horrified when the Crown Prince shows him that the figure not only have the Crown Prince’s birth date on it but it also includes the emperor’s. Scared out of his mind, 5th Prince stutters that he never put the emperor’s birth date on the figure…which of course is admitting that he did put the Crown Prince’s on.
Episode 12
◦ Pretending to be surprised when Zhi Wei shows up at his school with her bodyguard, Xin Zi Yan lets Zhi Wei “convince” him to let her stay as a student. Zhi Wei’s only problem now? Trying to convince a stubborn Gu Nan Yi to change into the school uniform.
◦ I am skipping over most of the political intrigue in this episode since it is all about everyone teaming up to tighten the noose around 5th Prince’s neck.
◦ Giving Ning Yi a sad smile when he asks why she seems down even when 5th Prince is about to get his just reward (5th Prince is the one that killed her family), Zhu Yin explains that she for some reason feels lost now that she is about to get her revenge. Their conversation naturally turns to Zhi Wei and Zhu Yin remarks that she is starting to yarn for the freedom in the vibrant world Zhi Wei has shown her. Silent when Zhu Yin asks if he will ascend to the throne when he is done with his revenge, Ning Yi frankly admits that he really has no clue what he will do.
