Lighting (Chinese Drama, New)
I was pretty excited to see a C-drama all about fencing. The story revolves around our hero who went from a professional boxer to a newbie in fencing. Determined to not be a burden to his teammates, our hero, through hard work and talent eventually becomes the dark horse that leads his team to an international fencing competition. Geroge Hu is not the hero in this one but he is the other male lead who will have his own cute love line.
This one…was…okay. The two romance lines seem promising and while the female characters are a bit forgettable, the bromance between two male leads is super cute. Still, as much as I would love to watch a fencing drama, I don’t see this one making it onto my watch list.
Dear Prince (Chinese Web Drama, New)
For those who had seen My Little Princess (2016, played by the same actress Zhang Yu Xi), this one is produced by the same people and has the same fairy tale vibe. Unfortunately, in terms of story pacing and plot though, Dear Prince just didn’t manage to capture my attention.
Synopsis: Not the one with princess syndrome this time around, Zhang Yu Xi plays our ordinary heroine whose life gets turned up side down when she meets our hero – a top star with a princess complex.
Nothing Gold Can Stay (Chinese Drama, New)
Synopsis: Sold off to be a maid to pay her father’s gambling debts, our spunky heroine eventually uses her talent in business to become one of the wealthiest of her time. Set at the end of Qing Dynasty, Nothing Gold Can Stay doesn’t have any palace intrigue but it will cover some political turmoil since that was obviously a big mark of that period of time. Peter Ho plays the gentle perfect 2nd male lead, who has the luck of marrying our heroine…but doesn’t have the luck of staying alive to enjoy it. Our hero is played by Chen Xiao, a spoiled rich kid who goes from clashing with our heroine to falling deeply in love with her.
I checked out the first episode and was impressed by both the story and the acting. However, I am a bit hesitant on following this one since I think there is a big possibility the ending could be sad… Definitely worth checking out though, if you don’t mind the possibility of a sad ending.
Sachi no Otera Gohan (Japanese Drama, New)
Resigned to living a life filled with bad luck as her name suggests, our heroine’s mundane existence slowly begins to change when she accepts an invitation to have a meal at a Buddhist temple and discovers the joy of food.
A pretty calming drama of watching three handsome monks cooking for one girl… what’s not to like?
Somehow (Korean Web Drama, New)
Synopsis: Living with the scars of losing his first love, our hero, a medical doctor suddenly gets a second chance when he becomes 18 again.
Another time traveling story AND another school bullying plot, but perhaps because this one is a short web drama, the story manages to feel refreshing somehow. The show packed a lot of emotional development in just the first episode (which was only 15 minutes long) so I think this one should be a really easy watch. Hospital Ship (Korean Drama, New)
Ha Ji Won’s new medical drama about a group of doctors who works on a hospital ship to provide medical service to little islands.
I really liked the first two episodes, other than a few scenes where it felt like the director was a bit heavy handed with the dramatic feel but I think the show will settle down after a while! Lots of emotional depth in our lead characters, so I am crossing my fingers, hoping this will be another successful Ha Ji Won drama.
