With a ripping sound, Feng Zhi Wei’s collar was torn by his grasp, and scraps of fabric fluttered into the air. But Jin Siyu suddenly let out a low shout, “Now!”

As soon as Lu Zhi Yan heard what Jin Siyu said, he immediately felt something was wrong. He didn’t have the time to look at the thing in his hand, and promptly leapt backward. At the same moment, Jin Siyu had already flipped over with Feng Zhi Wei in his arms. The carriage wheel under him suddenly let out a loud cracking sound, and a dense black light burst out.

The black light came swiftly and extremely close. Seeing that Lu Zhi Yan would not be able to dodge in time, his ever loyal strange bird suddenly let out a strange cry, turned around and swooped down to land right in front of him. Its wings spread over a meter wide, shielding all of Lu Zhi Yan’s vital points.

There was a soft hissing sound followed by broken feathers. The poison needles slid down the smooth bird feathers.  The bird let out a sharp cackling sound and turned its head towards Jin Si Yu’s direction, seemingly quite proud of itself. However, when it turned its head, it discovered that Jin Siyu had already disappeared.

The moment the poison needles were released, Jin Siyu had immediately leapt up and lunged towared the waiting carriage. The coachman had not gotten off the carriage no matter what was happening outside. However, once he saw his master had arrived, he immediately snapped the reins, and sent the horse racing out of the forest with a wild neigh, utterly abandoning the guards who were still locked in a bitter battle. By the time a stony faced Lu Zhi Yan came chasing out with his little bird, all he caught was a puff of dust, and the faint shadow of the carriage already in the far distance.

Lu Zhi Yan stood rooted to the spot, stunned and fuming with fury. His anger climbed to yet another level when he turned to see that the wood was still filled with the loud banging and clanking of the battle. His guard captain, wiping away the sweat dripping from his forehead, came running up and asked, “Your Highness, do we want to keep all these people here?” (keep= kill them)

“Keep them here…” Lu Zhi Yan repeated the words slowly with a smile before abruptly raising his hand and slapping his guard captain across the face!

“Idiot!” he shouted. “We have already formed an alliance with them! Do you really want to kill their people and turn this into a blood feud? Release them! All of them!”

The guard captain left with a hand on his face to order the release of the captives. Lu Zhi Yan gritted his teeth, squinted his peach blossom-like eyes in the direction Jin Siyu had left, seething that the jerk must have bet on the fact that he couldn’t kill his men and that’s why he had ran off without a second thought about his guards. The decisiveness and ruthlessness beneath the guy’s gentle appearance were truly impressive.

He rubbed his nose, the emotion of competitiveness and unwillingness to admit defeat flashed through his eyes as he muttered bitterly, “Good! You are also very good!”

Then, he suddenly lowered his head and noticed the torn strip of cloth in his hand, ripped from Fong Zhi Wei’s chest. He frowned as he stared at that long piece of fabric.

Seeming not affected by Lu Zhi Yan’s little interference, Jin Siyu traveled swiftly, switches horses and carriages continuously, heading straight for the nearest port. There, he could board the fastest ship and reach the nearest port in Dayue in half of a month.

On this journey, despite him bein a noble prince, he scarcely dared to lie down to rest. When he was too sleepy, he would only lean again the side of the carriage to catch short naps and would promptly wake up at the slightest gust of wind or disturbance. This was perhaps the most cautious journey he had ever taken in his life– because the person had had abducted was none other than Wei Zhi.

He can say that no one understand better than him how cunning Wei Zhi was. This woman, who had put on an act right under his nose for several months and after she had revealed herself, she still managed to deceive him viciously once again. She was by far, the most formidable and cunning person he had ever encountered. Against others, he was confident but against her, he had to be extremely cautious. After all, who knows when she might suddenly open her eyes with a big smile, pat him on the shoulder, and tenderly tells him, “Your Highness, this nap was so comfortable. Thank you for the ride.”

To avoid being tracked by her men, he kept changing routes and carriages, altering secret codes at every stop. This had all been arranged after the banquet at Changping Palace. Even with all that preparation, he still dreamed in his fitful naps that she had suddenly opened her eyes, and jolted himself awake in alarm.

It was only when he stepped onto the the ship deck with her in his arms, watched the sails rise, heading towards Dayue, with the endless white waves rolling behind him– only the vast ocean in sight, no signs of any boats, heck, there is not even any wooden planks in sight— this was when he finally let out a long breath of relief.

At that moment, he could hardly believe it– he had actually succeeded in abducting her.

This time, she is not simply a prisoner of war, but the most powerful minister of Tiansheng, a first-rank marquis, and the official envoy Wei Zhi.

Thinking back on his own plan, it was indeed a meticulous and perfect plan. He smiled, suddenly feeling a sense of liberation.

He looked down at the woman in his arms. Her long lashes curled slightly, her sleeping face calm and serene. Thinking that in the last two days of mad dash travel, he had only dared to feed her some energy nourishing pills, a wave of tenderness rose in his heart. He stroked her hair and whispered, “I will make sure to feed you well in a bit.”

Someone approached him quietly. Without turning his head, he asked in a low voice, “Everything is prepared?”

“Yes.”

“Any movement from Xiliang?”

“None.”

“It was a good time to leave.” Jin Siyu said after some thought, “Don’t know who was behind it, but someone dared to impersonated someone from Dayue and attempted to frighten the Regent’s son. It nearly caused the Regent to change his mind. For us to depart now, it shows clearly that we don’t intend to interfere with Xiliang’s politics.”

“Your Highness.” His subordinate behind him said cautiously, “With us leaving in such a haste, would that make the Regent think that we were feeling…guilty?”

“Feeling guilty?” Jin Siyu grinned, “Staying would’ve made us look more guilty. Did you not notice it? There are probably some major upheaval heading for Xiliang. On the surface, Xiliang seems to be prosperous and full of celebrations, preparating for the birthdays of the regent and the emperor, but the imperial court was a bit chaotic. First, one major criminal case after another, then the treasury was short of funds, then the border troops mutinied because their autumn clothes were too thin… none of them seem to be too big of a matter but something just feels off….”

He narrowd his eyes. He can’t pin point what exactly is wrong but he trust his instincts. As a prince who grew up fighting in the political storms, his senstivity to such political matters is shaper than ordinary people. He smiled faintly, thinking that if something really changes in Xiliang this time, it wouldn’t have anything to do with the person in his arms, right?

“If there are changes in Xiliang, then wouldn’t the alliance be…”

“Whoever becomes the emperor would not give up a beneficial alliance.” Jin Siyu carried Feng Zhi Wei down to the lower cabin, “So what does it have to do with me?’

The person behind him replied with a laugh, “Yes, Your Highness still has more important matters to attend to.”

Jin Siyu lowered his head, looked at Feng Zhi Wei and smiled. As he walked, he ordered, “Add three more layers of guards outside of my cabin, but no one is to approach within 10 feet without permission.”

“Yes.”

Jin Siyu stepped into the cabin but poked his head out again and asked, “Is the wine ready?”

The subordinate behind him smiled and said, “Yes, it will be brought right away. Congratulations, Your Highness.”
