Feng Zhi Wei returned to the courtyard and looked towards the Master Gu’s lighted room. His room has always been next to hers. She always thought it to be convenient but not today. What if she went back to her room to sleep and heard some noises she should not hear? After thinking for a good long time, she finally went to inspect the guards of the surrounding area and went to see Qian Yan. (That’s the unlucky guy who got stabbed by the princess) She had taken the opportunity of this diplomatic mission to ask for Qian Yan to join the envoy team to avoid any trouble in the Imperial Capital. As far as the imperial examination and the official appointment he missed, he will be well compensated once his merit on this diplomatic mission is reported. Qian Yan was grateful to her for not only saving his life but also for her thoughtful consideration of his future, so he has been extra cautious and diligent on this journey. The night of their confrontation with Ah Si when he had planned on ambushing the post station, it was Qian Yan who had overseen the hanging of the large lanterns to fool Ah Si into believing the assassins he had sent had succeeded.
Qian Yan was reading the documents sent from the south, and seeing Feng Zhi Wei coming in, he asked with a smile, “Marquis Wei, not sleeping yet?”
Feng Zhi Wei laughed dryly, thinking this marquis had no place to sleep tonight, and quickly changed the subject, “What are you reading so seriously.”
“Speical report from northern Longnan and Minan.” Qian Yan replied, “It said that a team of merchant ships set out from Dayue had arrived in Xiliang not long ago. This was not abnormal. What was surprising was who came to meet this team of merchant ships from Xiliang. Someone had recognized one of them. It seems to be the regent’s right-hand man, Grand Marshal, Lu Rui.”
Feng Zhi Wei had not read today’s special report yet. When she heard this, her eyes narrowed and she suddenly asked, “What is the current situation in Dayue?”
“The Emperor of Da Yue passed away, and the army withdrew. Our empire took the opportunity to implement the two strategies Marquis Wei had laid out to pacify Da Yue. Right now, the Da Yue empire has no time to care about other things, all the princes are fighting for the throne. The crown prince ascended to the throne but was killed three days later by the fourth prince. Just when the fourth prince was about to ascend to the throne, the Imperial Grand Tutor urgently summoned the nearby army to besiege and exterminate the fourth prince’s entire family. Imperial Grand Tutor then immediately threw his support behind the ninth prince but half of the court officials opposed it. As of now, the capital of Da Yue is in chaos and bloodshed.”
Feng Zhi Wei listened calmly and asked, “Where is Jin Siyu?”
“When the rebellion broke out, Prince An was away leading the troops. He originally headed straight for the capital, but after the crown prince was killed, he turned south and did not enter the imperial capital. It is said that the army stopped at the border of Da Yue, but the exact location has not been found yet. His current situation is a bit like his other brothers– in exile.”
“Really?” Feng Zhi Wei smiled, the sound on the last syllable was a bit long. She stood with her hands behind her back, thought of the colorful Pu Garden Manor, remembered the chilling never-ending back-and-forth testing between them, remembered the back-and-forth cunning negotiations in the study, thought of Jin Siyu’s outstretched hand that grabbed at air when she fell from Pucheng’s city wall.
Their farewell wasn’t that long ago, yet she might meet her old friend again in another country?
Unexpectedly, this trip to Xiliang is more complicated than she had thought.
After chatting with Qian Yan a bit more, seeing that it was getting late and it was not good to overstay her welcome, Feng Zhi Wei could only get ready to leave. Preparing to work hard late into the night in the hall, Feng Zhi Wei gathered the papers up and was about to step out of the room when she suddenly heard a loud bang.
The sound came from Master Gu’s room, accompanied by Master Gu’s cold and slightly angry voice.
“Liar!”
At the same time, something broke through Master Gu’s window and fell heavily into the pond outside in the courtyard with a plop.
It is said, on the night of the third day of the sixth lunar month in the fifteenth year of Tiansheng, a rather shocking conversation that only the two parties involved knew about took place in the south wing of the guest house in the official residence of Jiyang Prefecture.
The content of the conversation was as follows:
“Greetings, my lord, my name is Xian Xian”
“Hmm.”
“What would you like to hear, my lord? “Qingping Diao”? “Zhe Zhiling”? Or folk songs? or …perhaps… “18 touches?”
“Touch.”
“My lord…you are so naughty…”
“Why?”
“Hehe… my lord…you are so funny…”
“What’s funny?”
“My lord…um…don’t tease me.”
“Tease what?”
“……..”
“You are not singing?”
“…First, touch, touch the edge of sister’s hair. Sister’s hair is so smooth and long, tickling the older brother’s heart… Second, touch, touch…” (You guys probably all know this but to make this not creepy, I’ll just point out that sisters, brothers, uncles, and aunts in Chinese are not reserved for biological relations but are also polite terms for strangers. When it comes to older/younger sisters or older/younger brothers, then sometimes it could be used during flirtation -as it was in this song.)
“Doesn’t sound good.”
“…Could it be…my lord…you want to…do it for real?”
“What for real?”
“…hmm…to really…touch…”
“…..” A bit of pondering, “This is fine.”
There was a low chuckle and the sound of clothing being taken off.
“Wait.”
“My lord…what do you commend? I am…a little cold….”
“You over there.” pointing at her chest, “Is it pretty?”
“…um…my lord, wouldn’t you know if you take a look for yourself?”
“I want you to say it yourself.”
“Of course it is…of course it is…”
“Beautiful?”
“…I am known as the most beautiful girl in Thousand Flower Tower, because my skin…is plump and silky…people call me…Jade Lotus…”
“Lotus?”
“…yes…”
“Like lotus?
“…yes…”
“Like lotus bud?”
“…It’s so embarrassing…why are you asking so many questions…you just touch it…then you will know…”
There was the sound of clothes falling, accompanied by shy and happy giggling. The figures on the window gradually overlapped, the plump and full duo lotus buds approaching with their full charm.
“……..”
A moment later.
“Liar!”
With a long bang, a large white shadow flew out, broke through the window, drew a white arc in the night, and fell into the courtyard pond with a plop, smashing into the lotus buds in the pond.
The man who had tossed the figure out was so angry as if it was he himself that was tossed. The man turned round and round in the room frantically, desperately looking for a basin, looking for water, looking for a towel to wash his hands.
He grumbled as he washed, his dry tone showing his extreme anger.
“Liar!”
“What lotus flower!”
“What lotus flower bud!”
“Cow dung!”
“Rotten meat bun!”
……….
The story of Master Gu’s xxx story ended with his indignant protest and Xian Xian’s aggrieved sobbing. What didn’t end was the prying heart of the guard who was secretly sent by a certain prince. The guard who loves to eavesdrop and gossip was perched high on the wall, holding a piece of paper and a pen, taking in the scene and writing furiously with a dazzling bright light in his eyes.
“Time: June 3rd, around 9 o’clock at night.”
“Location: South wing in the back courtyard of Jiyang government office.”
“Characters: Gu Nan Yi and the number one courtesan of Thousand Flower Tower, Xian Xian.”
“Event: Gu Nan Yi wanted to listen to “Eighteen Touches,” and after listening to it, he wanted to touch. After touching, he asked about lotus buds. The lotus buds were shown to him, he threw them away, and called the girl a liar.”
“Personal opinion 1: Gu Nan Yi is a jerk, who doesn’t know how to treat a lady like a gentleman. Personal opinion 2: Why is Gu Nan Yi so focused on lotus bud? This is worthy of exploring further. Personal opinion 3: I could not tell if a certain someone was jealous or not. Your Highness, you still have a chance. Personal opinion 4: Gu Nan Yi seemed to have finally started to understand the difference between men and women. Your Highness, you need to be careful. Personal opinion 5: No matter how clean a….. is, she is still a…., I am like Your Highness, and have no interest in these types of women. Personal opinion 6: Actually, Xian Xian’s chest really does look like jade lotus buds.

ps. To answer my own question I asked in last week’s post, my personal opinion is that while Feng Zhi Wei was jealous that emotion was probably not a purely romantic sort but a mixture of a bunch of other emotions. When it comes to Ning Yi and Feng Zhi Wei’s relationship, it is very clean-cut in that they can either be romantic partners or deadly enemies, no other relationship is possible. (Our heroine’s reaction would’ve been very different if Ning Yi was the one who did this.) When it comes to Gu Nan Yi and Feng Zhi Wei’s relationship though, I feel their relationship is a mixture of so many things that it’s probably impossible to figure out what it is exactly. To Gu Nan Yi, Feng Zhi Wei is someone to protect, a mentor, a best friend, a mother, a sister, and now, his first love. In short, just as Gu Nan Yi said, without Feng Zhi Wei, then there is no Gu Nan Yi. As for our heroine, I think Gu Nan Yi is the first person…and really the only person, who gave her the unconditional love she had yarned for all her life. Gu Nan Yi was the person Feng Zhi Wei could trust 100%, who was always with her and whose world revolved around her very existence. I think as she is all those things to Gu Nan Yi, he too must also be Feng Zhi Wei’s best friend, a brother, a dad, and a romantic temptation.
Hahaha poor Xian Xian! What a great job that shadow guard has 😀
Thank you for this!
But when will Ning Yi show up? 🙂

He won’t show up for quite a bit. This author likes to send her heroine off on long journeys without the hero. They really added quite a lot of story to Ning Yi’s part of the story in the drama. In this author’s novels, the hero really is more of an after thought…although she does create fairly memorable heroes.
