The two people hugging tightly together on the cliff wall, curled their lips and smiled at the same time.

Feng Zhi Wei mouthed a question to Ning Yi, “Are you all right?”

Ning Yi didn’t answer but stared at her tenderly. A poignant tenderness is blooming in his usual cold and calm eyes, full of starlight, causing the very moon to be drunk.

He suddenly reached out a finger to carefully and meticulously wipe off the night dew and mud that had gotten on her face from when she had clung to the cliff wall.

The mountain wall was rugged, and the mask had already sustained some holes from the friction, but fortunately, it didn’t hurt her skin.

Feng Zhi Wei avoided his gaze a bit uncomfortably and pointed at the cliff top, indicating they should climb up but Ning Yi shook his head.

Feng Zhi Wei was taken aback at first and then immediately understood his meaning. Since Official Huang was “silenced,” then Mrs. Huang must also not be allowed to live. This meant the guest room where Mrs. Huang was resting must already be very dangerous.

The two exchanged a look, and Feng Zhi Wei suddenly whispered by his ear softly, “Envoy Changning.”

A look of smiling approval appeared in Ning Yi’s eyes, he nodded, raised his chin, and pointed to the other side of the cliff.

Feng Zhi Wei knew that he meant that was where Envoy Changning was. The envoy was too drunk and had gone over there to rest earlier. Moreover, this person is not trained in martial arts.

The two of them were pressed against the cliff wall. Ning Yi’s back is against the cliff with one hand gripping the wall while the other foot on a protruding rock. Feng Zhi Wei’s back was pressed against his chest, hugged tightly by him as their clothes and hair danced around wildly as the mountain wind swirled around them. A sea of clouds below them and a vast expense of blue sky above. In the galloping vast territory and mountain scene stretching without bounds, there is a vague revealing line of light green morning sun.

The heavens are vast and endless, and people as small as mustard seeds.

Extremely minute, unimaginably large.

Exceedingly dangerous, yet extraordinarily open.

Although they knew it was not the time to indulge, but the two of them were still slightly entranced by the impressive scenery they would most likely never encounter again in their life.

The land is beautiful but it does not grow old with people.

After a while, Feng Zhi Wei let out a soft sigh, her eyelashes were slightly damp from either dew or something else, sparkling as she blinked.

Ning Yi hugged her tightly, rubbing his chin on her silky hair, a faraway look in his eyes.

Feng Zhi Wei smiled slightly, raised her hand, the dagger in her hand shone brightly, and cut the silk rope before immediately jabbing it right into the cliff, flipped her body over the dagger, and started to crawl toward Envoy Changning’s room.

Ning Yi followed closely behind, protecting her.

The two of them made their way swiftly to the back window of the room. Shuyu Villa’s design revolves around openness and nature. The back window of the envoy’s room has a large row of windows.  Although all the windows were closed but this was not difficult for the two of them. Pressed against the cliff wall, Feng Zhi Wei used the dagger to pry the window latch.

She suddenly felt a warmth on the back of her leg. She looked down to see Ning Yi hugging the crook of her leg. As she looked down, he also raised his head and gave her a faint smile.

Tonight, his smile was different from his usual roguish smile that always had a hint of coldness in it. Instead, his smile tonight was clean and warm, with a rare warmth, like a crimson spark in the night, far away, but very real and warm.

Feng Zhi Wei was lost in those eyes and suddenly remembered that time, it was also on a cliff that was not quite as high, not as cold, nor as this dangerous. Back then, someone else also gently hugged another person’s leg and promised to be the other person’s eyes.

At that time, they were heading down, but now they are heading up. At that time, she was the one hugging him, this time, he is the one hugging her.

The heat from Ning Yi’s palm came through, seemingly penetrating deep into her muscles and bones. A tremble vibrated through her, and for an instant, the memory of that night of rain in the mountain temple flashed across her eyes.

Feng Zhi Wei pulled away her gaze and lowered her eyes.

With a very slight “click”, the window latch was opened.

Silently opening the window, and with a shrug of his shoulder, Ning Yi raised his hand to give her a boost, sending Feng Zhi Wei inside like a puff of smoke.

The moment she landed, she headed straight for the bed.

There was a slight sound of feet landing behind her, Ning Yi had made his way in as well.

Amidst the fierce sound of the wind, Feng Zhi Wei’s palm headed straight for the person’s throat. Her body is lighter and faster than Ning Yi’s so she was in front of the man in an instant.

Their opponent had no martial arts skills but was woken up by the wind and jumped up in panic.

A strange light flashed in the darkness.

It seemed to be a silver light that was both bright and dim.

Feng Zhi Wei saw it out of the corner of her eyes and her heart sank, but it was too late to pull her body back. In the chaos, she only had time to kick a stool to block Ning Yi who was coming up right behind.

The silver light flashed and she felt a pain on her outstretched hand, as if it was clamped down by pliers, then her body was pulled forward by a strong force.

Immediately, a pair of cold fingers, firmly clamped around her throat.

Feng Zhi Wei smiled wryly at the irony.

She had planned on using her fingers to turn someone else into helpless prey but she ended up being the prey.

The aura of the man behind her was extremely cold, like a silver snake hidden in the darkness of the moonlight.

He sat up with slow and precise movements, giving no loopholes or blindspots in his sitting posture. Not only was Feng Zhi Wei unable to use anything to her advantage, but neither was there anything Ning Yi could do other than to stop once he realized something had gone amiss.

*crack*

The man behind her lit up a fire stick.

The light from the fire caused the silver light to shimmer. It didn’t feel bright, it just had the appearance of a flowing and mysterious eye

Commander of the Gold Feather Guard.

Feng Zhi Wei let out another resigned smile– she still underestimated the number one person in this empire who was most skilled at disguises and ambushes. Would someone like that be fooled so easily? He most likely realized her plan of luring the tiger away and couldn’t find them right away but was also certain they were still inside the villa. He knew that if they wanted to leave the villa, they would need to kidnap the extremely important yet non-fighter envoy, so this commander decided to not go searching at all, save himself some effort, and just wait here for the rabbits to come to him.

The very thought makes one want to vomit blood. To be so close yet to fail at the last step in this person’s hand.

A hint of a smile slowly appeared on the man behind her as he spoke for the first time that night. His voice was hoarse as if he didn’t speak often.

“I have been waiting for you (plural) for a long time.”
