I was really excited for this one to air especially because I have read the novel this drama is based on. Of course it also doesn’t hurt that with leads such as Bai Lu and Dylan Wang I knew this show will be a feast for the eyes.
Synopsis: Our heroine is an upcoming award-winning reporter for a finance magazine. Furious when her boyfriend leaves her for a brighter financial future with a girl who has a rich uncle, our heroine decides that it would be sweet revenge if she could become the “rich uncle’s” new girlfriend. Through a series of misunderstandings, our heroine mistakenly is led to believe that our hero is the said “rich uncle”. Surprised when she realized her romance target was none other than the interview subject she had been trying to land for the magazine headline, our heroine decided this was the perfect opportunity to pull out all the stops to get her man.
First Impression after 6 episodes: I think perhaps I went into Only for Love with too high of an expectation, but the first two episodes were actually a bit disappointing. I think my main problem was that I had a difficult time seeing Dylan Wang as the cold aloof successful CEO when he looked so young…and friendly. I know, I know, that’s crazy talk but I swear whenever he had the aloof cold CEO look, I kept waiting for him to break into a boyish smile. I did eventually get used to Dylan as our cold and aloof hero so that problem went away on its own.
As far as the chemistry between our two leads goes, it looks to be quite promising and I am sure we will get lots of super cute scenes later on. In truth, I feel Bai Lu is an actress who usually has a decent chemistry with most of her male leads.
Overall, Only for Love is a very light fluffy romance with lots of clichés which wasn’t a problem since I knew from reading the novel the plot would be light and it was actually a big attraction of the novel.
Novel and Drama Comparison:
Thus far, the drama is sticking very close to the novel, including almost all of the little details and interactions between our two leads in the book. Now, like I mentioned, the plot of the novel is VERY light and fluffy so the drama had to add quite a bit more to the storyline to make it full enough for a drama. Some of the things I don’t remember being in the novel are: all of the business dealings, the best friend and the niece’s romance lines.
Ah, one minor difference I can see is that our hero’s character in the novel comes off a bit more devious and confident. In the drama, some of our hero’s stiff aloofness seems to come from his uncertainty about how to handle his budding interest in our heroine. In the novel, one gets the feeling that our hero seems to enjoy ruffling our hero’s feathers and does it purposefully.
Am I planning to keep watching?
I am! I feel like I am actually liking this show a bit more with each additional episode I watch. That’s of course always a good sign as long as the show can keep the secondary plots and the business storyline interesting.

I’m oddly invested in the niece’s storyline even though everything she does makes me cringe.
