Fall In Love Like A Star
Over the weekend I checked out Yang Mi and Li Yi Feng’s 2015 romantic movie, Fall In Love Like A Star. Yang Mi plays an aspiring celebrity manager who ends up working with our hero, a top star… who also just happens to be her ex-boyfriend she dumped back when he was still a nobody.
I thought the movie was pretty enjoyable. The plot was fairly predictable and light but that was exactly what I needed on a Friday night.

I haven’t been following KBS’ Return but I was nonetheless fairly shocked when I read that Ko Hyung Jung is leaving the hit drama (the show has been getting about 16% rating) due to disagreements between herself and the director. The show is already at its midpoint so it was understandably very jarring to the viewers to suddenly have a cast change especially in a lead character. I usually try to withhold my judgment when stuff like this happens since I can’t see an actress/actor making such a drastic decision (especially considering the damage to their own image) without due cause but I also think the director/tv station would’ve done their part to avoid something so catastrophic to their show.
Right off the top of my head, I can remember a few instances similar to this but the one that I think was most memorable for me was when Lee Da Hae left East of Eden (Song Seung Heon was the other lead) way back in 2008. Since I am not following Return I can’t compare the two situations but in the case of East of Eden, as a viewer who followed the show, I thought East of Eden’s production did not carry their end of the deal with Lee Da Hae. While it is debatable if Lee Da Hae should’ve stayed and finished the project anyway but it is clear that Lee Da Hae was certainly given a rotten treatment when she signed on to be the female lead and ended up being less screen time than a minor character. Even to this day, I remember being thoroughly confused while watching East of Eden by the pitiful amount of scenes Lee Da Hae was given and what’s worse, the ones she was given was very obviously an afterthought that screamed “Oh, shoot, totally forgot we have a heroine. Um…what do we do with her? Let’s just have her walk from point A to point B and call it good.”
Anyway, not to say Ko Hyung Jung’s situation is similar to Lee Da Hae’s at all, just that this news piece made me remember the mess with East of Eden.
In preparation for William Chan and Bai Bai He’s upcoming romance, Only Side By Side With You, I read the novel 南方有喬木 the drama is based on. I am happy to report that the novel was really good which of course just made me REALLY excited for the drama. Unfortunately, Only Side By Side With You is not going to air until March 25th so I just get to wait impatiently. By the way, the mysterious and buttocks kicking hero in the novel seems like a perfect fit for William Chan since we all know he always looks awesome in that sort of roles.

Sigh…I am starting to lose interest in this one. Not that the show is bad but just not keeping my interest for some reason. If I had to take a guess at my own waning interest, I would probably blame the set up of the two leads falling in love with one another being too fast and unrealistic for my taste. Still, I am intrigued by how this one will wrap up so I will probably check back in a few weeks.

As much as I loved Prison Playbook, I was a tad bit disappointed in the amount of screen time Jung Kyung Ho had in it, so I am really excited to find out that Jung Kyung Ho has signed on to play the lead role in OCN’s upcoming drama “Life On Mars.” For those of you who actually have time to watch anything else other than Asian dramas, you might recognize the title since the show is a remake of the British television series of the same name. Life On Mars is a police crime + time travel drama that follows our hero, a police detective who unexpectedly finds himself transported back to 1970s after a car accident.

Park Sung Woong (Welcome to Waikiki) and Go Ah Sung (Radiant Office) have also been offered roles in Life On Mars as well. If Park Sung Woong accept the offer then he will be playing the role of the hero’s section chief. There is no news on what role Go Ah Sung has been offered yet…but I am crossing my figures for at least a little romance.

OCN’s Life On Mars is aiming to air during the summer of 2018.
