Episode 35

Urgently asking 11th Prince for the whereabouts of Luan Fei the moment he wakes up, the crown prince finally sees the truth for himself when 11th Prince takes him to intercept Luan Fei and 9th Prince. Admitting that he has always known Luan Fei’s relationship with his brother, the crown prince pleads with her to just come back to him. Apologizing to the crown prince for everything she has done to him, Luan Fei puts a knife through her own heart as she takes an impressive amount of time to die in the crown prince’s arm.

Finally willing to grant Luan Fei her lifelong wish after she dies, 9th Prince holds Luan Fei’s body and drinks a poison to take his own life as well. With his dying breath, 9th Prince declares to his brothers “Only with my death, can the secret from long ago remain hidden…and this royal game of death continues.” Hmm…interesting…I wonder what he meant by that.

Descending from the sky, Wu Ping Ting grabs 9th Prince’s body and runs off after promising retribution one day.

Severely disappointed in a crown prince that would throw everything away for a woman, the emperor is visibly shaken when he is informed that another one of his son (9th Prince) had died. Ignoring Yuan Ling’s protest that his eldest brother was understandably deceived by Luan Fei who was listening to 9th Prince’s orders, the emperor sends out a royal decree to take away the crown prince’s title.

Later that day, as Yuan Ling is discussing the day’s event with Qing Chen, our heroine pales when she suddenly sees her hand going transparent again. Forcing herself to act normally as she abruptly excuses herself from Yuan Ling’s presence, Qing Chen finally collapses once she is out of Yuan Ling’s sight and the flower inside her sheds another petal. Alarmed when the flower only sheds one single petal, Qing Chen quickly realizes that 9th Prince is most likely still alive and if so, will be planning revenge against them all. Concerned by Qing Chen’s brusque departure, Yuan Ling chases after her but thanks to 12th Prince timely appearance, all our hero was able to find was Qing Chen’s handkerchief.

Dismayed to see even after his best effort Qing Chen’s body is still turning transparent, 12th Prince warns Qing Chen “The effect of the time portal is becoming too strong. If this continues, you would not be able to return to your own time and what’s worse, you will disappear from here and end up in a limbo of nothingness that will be a fate worse than death.” With a quiet acceptance, Qing Chen replies “Once I am done with what I came here to do, then if he really forgets me, that will be the best…for him and for me, it will be less painful this way.” Moved by Qing Chen’s attitude, 12th Prince asks “Why walk into certain death?”  Qing Chen slowly recounts everything Yuan Ling had done for her and asks a speechless 12th Prince how she can not give her all for a man like that.

Surprisingly upset by his daughter’s death (considering he did kill his own eldest daughter after all), Prime Minister Feng meets with Ding Shui and plots with her to expose Qing Chen’s identity as a sorceress to the emperor.

Still wondering why Qing Chen had left in such a hurry before, Yuan Ling pays Qing Chen a visit at the Feng household. Smiling serenely when Yuan Ling takes out the handkerchief he had found, Qing Chen fibs that she had merely gotten lost in the palace and wished she had asked Yuan Ling to escort her out. Not buying Qing Chen’s story at all, Yuan Ling begins to say “If you don’t want to tell me…” but stops abruptly when he spots Prime Minister Feng’s trusty minion spying on them. Unable to shake off a feeling of foreboding, Yuan Ling tells 12th Prince to place a few men to keep watch over the Feng household.

Disappointed with almost all of his sons, the emperor is all smiles when Yuan Zhan returns triumphantly after using his impressive diplomatic skills to hold off an army that was threatening their border. Yuan Zhan had also used his new found favor with the emperor to get the emperor to pardon his mother who was banished for killing her own son. Yuan Zhan had found out that someone on Princess Duo Xia’s side is actually leaking information to their collective enemy. Calming a shocked Princess Duo Xia, Yuan Zhan assures her that he still thinks a political alliance with her country is the right thing to do. Seemingly convinced Yuan Zhan is the son that understands him, the emperor tasked Yuan Zhan with the full responsibility of ensuring a political alliance via Princess Duo Xia’s marriage will happen smoothly.

Episode 36

Unwilling to admit that her right hand man, the one person she trusts could be the mole, Princess Duo Xia stops short of accusing Mu Kesha and instead tells him that they have to find the traitor.

11th Prince’s hard work pays off and Cai Qian finally realizes after missing 11th Prince terribly that the one she likes is not her idol Yuan Ling but the foolish boy she has taken for granted all these years. Overjoyed as he holds Cai Qian in his arms, 11th Prince confesses “It doesn’t matter who you have in your heart. But in my heart, you are the only one.”

Loudly proclaiming his folly as a father who was blinded by how much he missed his daughter, Prime Minister Feng tells the emperor that he had just recently found out Qing Chen is not only an imposter but she is also a sorceress. With no way to defend herself once Prime Minister reveals that Qing Chen’s tattoo should not be EXACTLY like Luan Feng’s, Qing Chen stops protesting her innocence but refuses to accept all the false charges the Prime Minister is trying to settle on her head.

Realizing that their worst fear has been realized, Yuan Ling and Yuan Zhan are unshaken in their support of Qing Chen as they try to convince the emperor that Qing Chen could not possibly be an evil sorceress who has single handily plot the death of the emperor’s sons. (The Prime Minister had tried to get the emperor’s attention by accusing Qing Chen of plotting to kill off his sons in order to help a certain prince to ascend to the throne.)

Not convinced by his sons’s (Yuan Ling, Yuan Zhan, the ex-crown prince) unified declaration that Qing Chen is completely innocent of hideous crimes Prime Minister Feng is accusing her of, the emperor orders Qing Chen to step into a spell that is would kill her if she is indeed a sorceress.

Resolutely declaring that Qing Chen is the one he has chosen as his wife, Yuan Ling ignores the emperor’s fury and steps into the spell with Qing Chen hand in hand. Holding off the poison in the spell with her sorcerer’s stones, the already weakened Qing Chen looks up in alarm when Yuan Ling passes out from the effects of the spell.

While Qing Chen is using her power to heal Yuan Ling, our hero is once again reliving the memories he and Qing Chen shared in the original time line.

Awakening from the memory of a teary Qing Chen promising to not let him fall in love with her again, the first thing Yuan Ling does is to pull Qing Chen to him for a desperate kiss. M-E-L-T….

Out of sight, waiting along with everyone else, Ding Shui somehow realizes that Qing Chen is not only Mingyi Tower’s sacred sorceress but that Qing Chen had managed to open the time portal. With a glint in her eyes, Ding Shui promptly decides that she is going to use Qing Chen’s power to go back to the past in order to save the old emperor. (My guess is that Ding Shui was able to see everything that Yuan Ling saw while he was unconscious.) Her mind made up, Ding Shui begins to use her power to secretly help Qing Chen to ensure that she will survive.

Thanks to Elder Mo and Ding Shui’s unexpected help, Qing Chen and Yuan Ling come out of the killing spell looking like they had merely taken a stroll in the garden. Unable to deny Qing Chen has proved her innocence for all to see, the emperor grants Qing Chen’s request to formally stop being Prime Minister Feng’s daughter then cruelly “rewards” Qing Chen by giving her the position Luan Fei had occupied before her death. (The position mandates that Luan Fei, now Qing Chen can’t be married until she is 25 and even then, her husband would be chosen by the emperor.) Turning to Yuan Ling, the emperor “rewards” him by making him the leader of the palace army…the same position the crown prince had occupied before.

Rushing over to check on Qing Chen the moment the emperor is out of sight, Yuan Zhan tells a visibly pale Qing Chen and a still kneeling Yuan Ling “There was a moment there…father, was going to kill 4th brother.”
